   What does this mean?

The Miner is the only Job that can harvest the raw ore and gems that are needed by the Blacksmith, so these two jobs go hand in hand.

After you have harvested your Ore and Gems, the Ore will need to be Smelted and turned into ingots of metal. This can be done at any Smelting Furnace, which are located at the Mining Camp nearest each Mine or Quarry.

Just like Chef, the Miner uses both minigame styles: Matching to harvest the ore and gems, and Making to smelt the ore into ingots.

Harvesting

It is always a good idea to seek out the Rich mining nodes, as they will have a higher concentration of Gem and Ore tiles on the game board, making harvesting mass quantities easier. When looking for a rich ore node, the easiest way it by turning on the purple minigame dots for your minigame. The rich nodes will appear, and you can mouse over them to see what type they are. They do not appear on the atlas.

As of Novemeber 5, 2009, Harvesting games are a free activity that do not give Miner experience.

Smelting

Before a Blacksmith can use the metal you harvest it must be Smelted into ingots at a Smelting Furnace. This is a Making recipe minigame. See Miner Recipes.

Unlocking Miner

Miner can be unlocked by speaking to Therin in the Singing Crystal Mines of Snowhill. Additionally, you can receive an optional quest to become a miner by clicking the various ore nodes and forges you see throughout the world!

Leveling

Miner is a crafting job; the majority of your experience will come from completing the mining and smelting mini-games, as well as working on the quest series.

You will occasionally hit road blocks in the quest series that will prevent you from continuing due to your level. Whenever this happens, your trainer will give you a reminder quest to return when you achieve that level!

Tips

Note that you can only see the collection piles for the profession you are currently in. So if you go into a quarry, you'll have to change professions to see Mining and Blacksmithing piles. (Thanks Bane!)
