Daybreak Unveils New Site and Logo

Several months after the SOE to Daybreak change, the site gets a modern facelift.

Daybreak Game Company finally unveiled their revamped website and logo after months of waiting. The new logo features the eye of an owl who appears to be glaring at the rising sun. As for the website, www.daybreakgames.com is finally active and has received a makeover. The top part has jumbo-sized features while the bottom allows you to navigate between their different posts and social media feeds. Also of note: Station Cash is now called "Daybreak Cash" on the new site (it's just renamed; your balances remain the same).

What do you think of the new logo and website? Check after the jump for more info on celebration livestreams and in-game bonuses happening this week. UPDATE: A letter from Smed to the community is also below the jump.

To help celebrate, Daybreak will be hosting a week of activities, giveaways and livestreams for all of its games. We encourage you to join our celebration by tuning into any of the following Daybreak livestreams this week:

Hello Players, Partners & Friends,

This year has already kicked off to be quite an incredible year for our company – we successfully launched H1Z1 to Steam Early Access, introduced beta testing for the upcoming launch of PlanetSide 2 on the PlayStation 4, and most importantly, became a fully independent game studio (and that was just in the first quarter alone!).

Since we first announced we would become Daybreak Games this past February, we have been burning the midnight oil to quickly and seamlessly transition our game services and sites to reflect our new company name and identity. With that said, we are excited to debut the first chapter of our new story as Daybreak Games by unveiling our new logo as an independent game studio.

We are so proud of our new company branding as it truly reflects who we are as an organization and captures our vision of approaching each new day as an opportunity to move gaming forward. We are also pleased to announce that we launched our new corporate website today, www.DaybreakGames.com.

To kick off this momentous occasion and help celebrate internally at Daybreak, we are hosting a Celebration Week this week which will include a variety of virtual and IRL activities, daily livestreams, giveaways and more! We encourage everyone to get involved and participate so visit here for more details.

Looking ahead, we are happy to announce we will be moving our San Diego headquarters into a new office space this fall so stay tuned for more news on this front! As for our games – it’s business as usual, but better than usual – as we have many new exciting developments for our existing IP and games, and other concepts in the pipeline.

Sixteen years ago we introduced the world to the modern MMO with EverQuest, and we can’t wait to see what successes the future holds and what we will accomplish together to move gaming and this industry forward.

Thank you for your continued support. Here’s to each of you and a game well-played!

John Smedley

Here's the original article of that topic for those not wanting to watch a video: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2015-04-27-daybreak-wakes-up-to-life-after-sony

Quote:
As for "making the same kind of games," it could be argued Daybreak itself isn't even doing that anymore. While it began with subscription-driven MMOs and transitioned heavily to free-to-play efforts, its latest major project, H1Z1, is currently available on Steam Early Access with a $20 up-front fee and in-game microtransctions.

"I firmly believe the days of the WoW-style MMO are over," Smedley said. "And that means we have to change with the times. Luckily, we were kind of early on that bus as opposed to late. But we're changing what we're making. Look at H1Z1. Is it an MMO? Sure, by definition, but I would consider it a session-based online game with a lot of people. And I say that because the average life expectancy in H1Z1 might be 45 minutes, and that's what today's gamers want. How many people do you still know that are still raiding in WoW every night, or EverQuest and EverQuest II? It's just the time commitment necessary has changed so much. That means we need to change with the times, and we are. So we're getting interested in a broader array of games and gaming styles."

Is 45 minutes considered garbage in those types of games? I have to admit i have never played DayZ or The War Z which was later renamed to Infestation: Survivor Stories. Personally when i play anything but Everquest i rarely play for more than an hour at a time.

First, I'm delighted they finally have their new web site. I'm eager to check it out.
As for the logo ---
Clockwork Owl!
"One does not simply walk into Klakanon!"
Cue the rumor mill:
Epic boss Clockwork Owl
Flying owl mount
Etc....

Most owls don't like the break of day...

I don't particularly care what logo they want to use, cog-eye angry owl is fine by me.

Now the name they chose "Daybreak" still feels too twilightish (breaking dawn) to me, but I work in a field where I have had to listen to too many twilight fans over the past 5 years so maybe I am alone in that.

Kicking Snake Games would have been much better for my two cents worth.

I'll take their word for it that that is supposed to be an owl's eye and eyebrow. The eyeball being in the shape of cog seems rather silly to me.

The various fansite designs after the sale was announced were much better than this IMHO.

Those awake to the symbolism used by globalist corporations knows what the one eye and owl symbolize.

For Instance: "The curtains were blue". What your teacher thinks: The curtains represent his immense depression and his lack of will to carry on. What the author meant: The curtains were frigging blue.

So anyway for those not "awake to the symbolism used by globalist corporations" what does it mean?

ROFL Good grief. You've got to be joking, but thanks for the laugh! This 'symbolism" schtick has got to be one of the most hilarious things I have read in ages!!

As for the logo itself. Unimpressive. It is an almost juvenile rendering and certainly not unique or even suggestive of an "independent game publishing studio".
