has anyone else noticed a growing number of people on the server who have decent rank, but when in a pt, it becomes obvious that they have no idea what they're doing? in the past, rank was the only sure way of knowing what you're getting when you toss someone an invite. now, it seems more and more people have been tagging along with high-lv.'s on their LS's in order to get rank.

example: i was leveling WAR on qufim island and the WHM, who i had been pleased to invite because he had rank 5, was quite possibly whe worst WHM i have ever had the priviledge of pt-ing with. he was spamming cure II almost the entire time, even when it was obviously not needed, to the point that 2 WARs and one RNG with WAR subbed couldn't keep the hate off him. he died. he died alot. and we died because he was dead.

i have been playing for 8 months and have raised 3 characters in ragnarok. in that time i've done nearly all the missions without any high-lv. help (with the exception of mission 9, thanks Oudey^^) and have spent lots of time helping others who really needed it to get the missions done. i find this rank-leeching really frustrating because it unbalances the game in so many ways. i wish there was a way of rating a player in other ways than rank.

there is, its called skill. stop trying to prejudge people before you know how they play, and maybe you wont run into this problem.

Correct me if im wrong but,if your highest job is 37DRK (I can see that in your signature)How is that you have done nearly all the missions?Even the mission for Rank6 is level minimum required 55 ?_?

i think he mean all "his" missions, maybe 9
anyway i see alot of rank10 playing bad, ex: blm lv 75 rank10 switch to pld, he is gonna be a noob for some lv's, maybe 30-40 but when he change back to blm he is a good player, i think ppl should play at least the 4 main job (blm-healer-tank-DD) till lv 30 or more to understand better eachother role in pt,
oh and i see alot of rank3 at my lv (52) playing very good so yes rank is pointless

Yeah... I had a R5 Paladin in my pt in the Dunes who claimed he soloed it at 32 Sam... He was braging about being rank 5 and I informed him that I couldn't give any respect to someone who was power ranked by their LS. (He had already said 32 Sam was his highest job) And all he did was brag about how awesome he was and how he would never lose hate then we start to fight and me as a Taru Drk is constatly riping hate off him doing nothing more than normal attacks and 1 poison at the start of the battle... Rank never was good for anything. A person with little in the way of skills can still level high enough to get R5 and then level a low level job and still suck. I never trusted it in the first place.

The *only* time when rank is an indicator of how good a player is is if you see a Rank 6+ low-lvl player; if thas the case, the person has a lvl 55+ main.

Otherwise, rank does not = experience, skill, or nething else.

I agree that Rank is *not a heavy indication of skill Level. It's a suttle heads up sometimes, but I have had my share or Poor PT based Rank 6-10's, and Other Super Thug Rank 2.

Alot of variables exsist to skew the Scale, such as:
Sleepy Player,
Alternate Character on Other Server (Ie Rank 1, but knows Renkei's),
Ect.

Basing a Pt on Rank alone can be like saying "That guy is a Good Player cause he wears FuBu" while your Monk is chillin @ work in Pajama Pants and Slippers ;)

I tend not to consider a person's rank with their playing ability most of the time unless I'm stuck out in the dunes or qufim trying to lvl a sub.

Most of the time, people around my lvl (61) know what they are doing in their job despite what rank they are. Not everyone has the time to sit around for hours or the friends to pull up a party for rank 6, etc. I myself waited to go from rank 3 to rank 6 unless I could solo Poryphiron

Tried to get rank 7 earlier...but the pt ahead of me in thea lliance with ppl lvl 60-62 got slaughtered in the Giddeus BCNM

clarification: i am on M12. i have done all missions with the exception of M9 alone or with a pt of ppl my level who also need to do the mission.

in any case, what i'm getting at is rank is something you should earn.

I used to think that Rank meant somthing, i do still look in awe on searchs and see people with R11 etc.

But there are some players that put on such a bad show with R6+ that i cant belive they got passed R3.
Once case in point was Garlaige(how we love it there). Being a Rng/Nin i was comming back from a pull when i saw another guy run past me towards his group...when behind him was a huge bat train...one seige bat and the rest...ekkk(you can figure it out lol), the player died infront of me which left me in the middle of death vally standing next to my party.

From memory three of us died thanks to that one, then it happend again about twenty mins later, my LS buddy was in his party and they couldnt belive what was going on. Quick search and his Rank was lvl 7.

So just goes to show that being a higher rank does not make you better than anyone else, just gives you bragging rights

I'm on mission 12. I soloed missions 1-5, did the dragon mission with a pt, and soloed missions 6-8. I was going to try and solo mission 9 as ~43 pld but a high lvl drk offered to help when I got up to the last floor. For mission 10 I soloed the davoi part, snuck through the oztroja part in a pt, and killed one of the beaudeax NMs with 2 other people. ~63 MNK came and helped with the other one. I did mission 11 with 5 other people at my current lvl 50.

Rank has much less weight than it used to. It's not difficult joining a shout-out alliance and leeching your way to a higher rank. There are plenty who have done that...Level 58-61 Thiefs at Rank10? Give me a break.

Also keep in mind, even the very talented players who reach Rank10 might decide to switch countries. I know quite a few who have done so in order to experience the other storylines. I tend not to judge based on rank anymore. I've met Rank3 incredible players and Rank10 idiotic ones.

I think one thing was over looked...

Purchased Accounts

There are more and more of these out there and they stick out like a sore thumb. I was getting invite tells from lvl 60+ when trying to level my 47RNG last week. And when I said they were too high the asked "too high for what?".

Another time I was flat told that a 5 level gap was fine and would have "no impact at all" on ANY party member's XP. So to prove a point we killed a mob that was IT++ to me..when everyone got about 100 or fewer XP from it this person was 'Confused' and 'unable to explain' the problem. The comment was it 'might be a server glitch'.

In both instances the players were RANK 10..... so heads up.

To the person who "needs" a airship pass... suck it up... I guess I get annoyed with all the people who start now and are handed everything or you joined our ls lets get you rank 5 at level 25 or 30. Seems retarded to me... Then again I started with the NA pc release when there was nobody to help us so I guess I just expect others to be self reliant as well...

The games changed a lot since then, rank yeah used to really mean something and there were no gil sellers taking all the nms or constantly doing teleports or mineing or whatever.

o.Oa'' Too high for math I guess :D

Seriously, does Rank mean that much to you? I really like the cutscenes and all, but the travelling all over the world part gets kinda annoying. I got Rank 5 at ~level 50, does that make me a lousy player? In fact, I was Rank 1 until about level 25, and Rank 2 at level 30. (It was funny expecting the 3 Orcs to beat me to death, since I accidentally rushed into San d'Oria's 'Save the children' mission, only to kill them each with one hit. o.OU)

Too often have I come across lousy Rank 10s, or Rank 2-3 players who seem to know their stuff.

Take it as a general guide I guess.

Now that is something I've gotta see. A Rank 11 character. :P

I can honestly say I've never really given much thought to another person's rank when inviting them to a party. Mainly because I play with some really good people who aren't doing the missions for one reason or another and staying at a low rank, even when they are more then capable of moving on. I usually make my judgements based on past experiences with that person that I or other members of my linkshell have had with them, taking into account, everyone has their bad days.

When did that requirement go into effect? I obtained Rank 6 with my character on Caitsith at level 53.

I hit rank 6 last night and my highest is 51 (3k from 52). I was going to do my af2 but a friend wanted me to come with them for rank 6. They needed an extra person and my back up healing, 2 hour and avatar buffs was good for that spot. Even at 51, Ifrit can do some nice damage with his 2 hour. :D I can't wait to get a little higher and go redo the fight with some friends who are quickly approaching it though.
