Yeah, I know there's a separate forum for this **** but let's be real it's probably haunted at this point.
Okay, so my problem is that my speakers/headphones will always play sound at half the system volume. By that I mean that the green bar indicating speaker volume will always be half of the volume that whatever in the mixer the sound is attributable to is showing. So, say I have Firefox at 90%, the speakers will display and play at 45%.

This problem developed some time after I started using two headsets, but uninstalling the second headset's drivers etc didn't seem to solve the problem. A temporary fix I have found is to go to playback devices and change the device that's set as either default device or default communications device. This makes whatever speakers are assigned as default play at full master volume for a while. E.G. it'll be maxed out for a song, then change back to playing at half volume when my media player switches to another track.
Anyone know how to fix this? I've done a few searches, the best I've found is a suggestion my ram is ******* but I didn't like that answer very much and I'm rather skeptical about it.
