Throwing Weapon vs BowsFollow

#1 Sep 08 2005 at 5:19 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, am a lvl 10 pred right now lookin to be assassin when the time comes, was just wondering if anyone used any sort of throwing weapon like a Shuriken or Throwing Daggers. Obviously probably not a very good choice for ranger but i was just curious about it for my assassin. Anyways i was just curious if throwing weapons were worth considering for combat, i'm not too worried which looks better or sounds cooler, thanks.

Don't see any reason you couldn't use throwing weapons instead of a bow. They have always been available in-game, so in terms of stats and mechanics, there must be something good about them!

You will need to obtain the sheath or other device to "hold" the weapons which will be equipped in your ranged slot, (just like a bow). There are a variety of these items dropped and also player made and sold by tailors.

You will also need to stock up on whatever ammo the item uses. Might be throwing axes or throwing knives... whatever your device requires. These will equip in your ammo slot, (just like arrows).

All of the scouts I know are rangers or bards and we all use bows but you should be fine using whatever your weapon of choice is. Remember the skill is for the use of ranged weapons... not just bows.

Currently, non bow weapons are at a general disadvantage (hence very few people use them). There are more legendary and fabled bows in the game, for example, than there are sheathes, slings and bandoliers. Additionally, the type of non arrow weapon you use does one type of damage- so you either need ammo and slings for all three types or you may find your ranged weapons useless. CA's currently only use bows, so arrow damage is of the type specified by the CA. No scout class currently uses non bows for their ranged combat arts as far as I know. Thrown weapons may or may not have shorter range than bows as well.

Note that this will change when the expansion goes live. Rouges for certain will be forced to use thrown weapons for their combat arts. Rangers will still use bows, and keeping with the archetypes system, one would assume assasins will use bows as well.

So essentially, you are at a disadvantage for anything other than autoattack damage as a scout if you use a thrown weapon.

Just an update to mention that the Swashbuckler's special bow attack has been changed to a thrown weapon special attack in the most recent patch.

That isnt too bad, you can still use bows, just not with your ability. I actually hardly ever use bow attacks, I have always used spells to pull, and now with conc free debuffs they are a great opening attack, so I just keep my bow for extra stats.
