best tank at 30+?Follow

#27 Jul 13 2005 at 3:24 AM Rating: Decent
Actually I thought SK's were kings of agro in EQ1...

Anyhow the point about Ber/Guard doing more dps from the back to prove what that knights or just pallies out tank a warrior archetype class...? I do not know if I read this wrong or what but obviously you have not looked at a berserkers skills closely enough. I do not know about the guardians as much tho. But if this were true why make a skill like "fury" and the rest of those lines. From skills list at lvl 22 fury: Allows a chance to counter attack each time the berserker is hit. Also 36.6 Greater fury, and 50 Unbridled fury. And at 50 bers get Fearsome shout along with Rampage. At 50 guards get Blast, Guardian sphere, and Protect. Another question how is it every other class get dps spell/abilities? Where did you get that from?

Really from the looks of most of the skills ber/guard are designed in a way as the main type of tank. Knights being sk/pallys are support tanks. Maybe not to some individuals or some such with exemplary skills as a knight but that may also be just me. And the topic of monk/bruiser i have no friggin clue where they fit in, maybe in the middle... havent really looked into this.

Soo um yeah : /

Sycotic said it perfectly.... every tank has their strengths and weaknesses.... I hate to be on the other end of a berserkers weapon during a berserk mode. I hate to be the one pointlessly attacking a guardian in party because his def won't budge over all. SK and PLD are strong tanks and have their supports to better assist the party... PLD ability to heal and deal divine and SK ability to DOT and steal stats (if they can do it in EQ2, I can't remember, I'll check it later). Personally I haven't started playing yet but I have been researching every class including scouts, mages and priests... there is no best over all... just best at what they are made to do.

Ok I Just wanna state my opinion.
Im a 38 Berserker, and I have Managed to convince many memebers of my guild that Berserkers are great tanks but not by words, by actions, my actions, AS a TANK,They may think what they think partly also because there are 3 tanks total in my guild, Me an Monk, and a Paladin, which is sad, but fun, anyway, back to my point. The reason they think we are the best is because many of them are let down by guards, pallies, and SK's,not because of there class, because they suck, now dang it people, the fighter class is a tank, and all the branches are supposed to be too, just like the mage, scout, and priest classes and their jobs, but with us, and a few others, it DID NOT work that way..., now i have to say guards have the best defense/AC in the game, but zerksare a close 2nd,but i think they have a much better defense/offense ratio by far, now , the reason sks and pallys cant Tank as good is because they make up for it in other abilitys, they get 1500+ nikes at 50, or so ive been told,
am not sure about it,but still, all the fighters can pass as tanks in >INSERT RANDOM PICKUP GROUP HERE< but in genuine raids and such guards will usually prevail, followed by zerks, then pallys, the sks. and to the guard talking about the zerk three lvls higher him having half his hp/ac , WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT MAN!!!???!!!???, zerks/guards anre Warriors.Guards being more defensive warriors, and zerks being more offensive warriors. Pallys and SK's are knights or crusaders, and to put thwem in fronty of warriors in ac/hp in this game, and at lower lvls to boot, thats just crazy talk.
Oh and also (AS A FRINDLY BRAG) at lvl 38, I can pull 100+ haste, self buffed, with do haste items or non ability modifiers.., beat that guards :),MWAHAHAHA

dude you got this game confused with eq1 when it comes to aggro and your head up your butt when it comes to which class is a tank and which isn't

I just wanna make a comment that I really haven't found anyone at 50 that could pull agro from me other than scouts that don't do their hate reductions, who go all out and get lucky ; ) And normally its not hard to get that hate back.
Btw I'm a 50 Paladin on Befallen named Deevaun. The ONLY great thing about the guardian that puts them above paladin is the dps reduction they have. But that dps reduction still works even if they are in the same group or raid. So seriously as long as you have one reducing the dps of the mob it all depends on the stats then.
However you do have some nice health, but again, as long as you can maintain agro and allow everyone in the group to go all out, thats the way to go. Once you loose agro because you aren't allowing other players to do their full potential dps, thats where you loose tank rights. : ) And thats where my pally steps in.

However if it is extremely crucial to the fight that a particular tank with awesome stats holds agro but he is having a hard time. A pally if playing his char right can act as a hate reducer for the group so that the other tank will have a better time at holding agro.

Oh, and if you think i'm full of BS about my agro capabilities, how about you check the online stats on the assassins high hits on Befallen. Apocalypse is a non raid guild atm due to certain circuimstances however our level 50 assassin is number 2 and has been for months, its amazing that neither of us have had much time to play over the last 2 to 3 months and still maintains the high hit.
Now I wonder who was tanking for the assassin to allow him to continuelly beat his hith hits that he does and hardly ever lost agro except for rare times that was for the most part easily regained.....

Deevaun Reenao Holy Paladin of Karana 50 Pal Befallen EQ2,
Deevaun Reenao Ex Holy Paladin of Karana 65 Paladin Drinal (Ultimate agro GOD there as well) : )

bored, so i figure i will update my post. i have been a 50 zerker for some time, arguably in the best raiding guild (lvl 30) on server. this guild has several of every class. and everyone has gotten their chance at raid tanking. we have taken every mob in the game down. after months of raiding everyday, heres what i found.
RESULTS:
in a raid:
guardian is the best due to their defensive abilities. the MTs job in a raid is to keep aggro(1st) and take as little damage as possible(2nd). most of the tanks in the guild are nearing full fabled gear with all adept 3s and many masters. berzerkers are a decent 2nd place. guild leader is a zerker, and he tanks very often when our usual tank is not on. he has tanked just about every raid mob out there and done fine, tho honestly not quite as good as our usual guardian. the reason he is such a good back up Mt is aggro ability, he never loses it. when fighting raid mobs, aggro is by far most important, as the mobs will kill everyone else in one or two hits. because of this, the other fighter classes are behind the guardian/zerk. but i will definately aggre that class is not everything, cuz many of the guardian/zerkers in guild cant tank raid mobs very well, so skill and spell upgrades make a hugh difference.
in a normal group:
in a normal group i firmly believe that all tanks are created just about equal. each has their own style and if they are skilled, can do great against almost any mob. i have a healer as well and have found that all the sub classes do just as well as each other, given proper skill.
Conclusion:
if u plan on raiding, then guardian is the choice, with maybe a zerker a distant second.(currently every raiding giuld on server usually uses guardian as raid MT). if lots of raiding is not in ur future, then pick whichever class strikes ur fancy, they all do just fine in normal group situations.

From lvl 10 to the endgame, who cares about the Guardian being the ultimate Epic Tank class. Its down the the player. Some players pick up pally or sk and tank as well as anything cos they have been playing MMORPGs since like Day One of EQ1. Put a player who hasnt tanked much in a guardian suit and its not a good Tank yet, and wont be for a good while. And Guard is the flavour of the month so theres plenty of inexperienced tankers rolling them thinking that they can do the job by default.

I play SK and make it my JOB to pull when possible, pick the best spots to fight, wathc for adds, hold aggro and ward my team. Noone has died on my watch for quite a while.

In the mid game of EQ2 you take what tank you can get especially during the 30s run when a lot of players tend to give up and do something else cos they dont like the sub they picked or decide they dont like tanking after all.

The only reason to go Guard over another fighter sub is cos you want to build for tanking at 50 (50+ now) on the epic mobs. Fine if you really want to play that role at the endgame. Plenty of players dont endgame much at all and go play some other class (or game). Surely its about the fun you have on the way. SK and Pally are really special classes, they take a certain play style and attitude to enjoy. For me SK is the ultimate class it does everything I want it to do and Im a signed up fan for life and dont even care about the changes from EQ1 or EQOA. Whether its the best tank is totally immaterial to me.
