let's talk scout class solo'ing tacticsFollow

I was trying a tactic with my predator I read about and couldn't quite get it to work.. so I figured I would pose the question here.. but first.. my current tactic solo'ing with my predator.

Honestly it's pretty simple...

if I can.. I'll sneak (I use Hunt now, that ability rocks!) and shadow blade or ambush, which ever is ready... then launch into HO's trying to alternate between cheap shot and dirty tricks to keep the mob stunned and lower their attack speed.

if I can't sneak due to a high concentration of aggro mobs, I'll pull one out with back shot(think that's what it's called) or open shot.. at which point it's HO's and alternating stunning strikes to maintain an advantage.

however..

I read something about being able to stun the mob... move behind it while it's stunned and then hit it with ambush... 0_o. I tried this tactic with dirty tricks and cheap shot.. making certain that my simple "attack" option was turned off since any attack will break stun, but when I try to move behind it the mob always turns to face me as I'm moving...

so I wondered what I might be doing wrong and wondered if anyone knew, also if anyone had any other solo'ing tactics to share as a scout class I'd love to hear them. I solo pretty well, but there's always room to try new things.

I think the tactic you are looking for is the "Cheap shot" stun and backstab technique. We should come up with a nifty name for that I think =0P

Anyway, you should be able to hit the mob with the "Cheap shot" ability, which is a short term stun, that is broken as soon as the mob takes damage. So if you turn off your attack immediately after hitting cheap shot, you should be able to quickly get behind the mob and use one of your "backstabbing" abilities, to quicken said mobs demise.

However, I've only myself been able to get it to work on a very small amount of mobs, due to the problem you experienced with the mob turning to face you even while stunned. I don't know if this is how the developers planned it or not, but it's how it is.

I've gotten to the point now that I don't even try this any longer. If you do want it to work, just remember timing, and speed is key.

Just a few suggestions if you are a predator and you want to solo here's my suggestions; First, poison. Use purple poison, on duel wielding weapons with a deley of about 1.4-1.6.

Second, keep your agility up. Agility is huge for avoidance, I was able to solo a green Bloodtalon in TS at 31 without getting hit once the entire fight due to a lot of agi. gear and buffs.

Third, use your high damage backstab to start the fight if you're going assassin, and try and get your multi-arrow attacks off from max range if you are a Ranger when you start.

These should help you drop any solo mob that isn't red, and if you're really good even white con group mobs (usually have to arrow kite those as a Ranger though).

hmm ok was wondering if it was just me.. I've been using poisons which are NICE.. I have a few I've purchased with a skill requirement of 100 just so I would have something waiting for me upon hitting the magic poison use number.

^_^

thanks for the tips too...

I'm not sure what exactly you're doing wrong either, Dutchess. This is a favorite tactic of rogues and has been known for a while now. I've used it numerous times and found no trouble with the doing, only the timing as frequently, I'm not quite fast enough. Some people have had success with jumping and hitting your attack in mid-jump. Since flanking attacks are much more forgiving, Sneak Attack is your best friend. If you're a lucky rogue, by all means Backstab. Others have tried a macro. Something like this (if I get this wrong, I apologize - I don't have a lot of experience with macros):

;doa cheap shot ;attack off

Then, when you use your attack, you can manually switch attack back on. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to automate this completely but you get the picture.

If you're sharp, you can Sneak, and then use an attack from Sneak (such as Ambush) in the middle of combat. This is not easy to do in combat since it involves being able to Sneak, and then use your attack from Sneak, before the mob can hit you out of it. In a group, this isn't a problem but if you solo, I'd suggest getting the timing down on the Cheap Shot + Sneak Attack combo down before trying this. I know that one of the Rogue level 10 training options is a one second casting time Sneak and also, Predator's get Stalk which is also a one second cast time. These things are the only options around my level range.

It took me a few tries at the start, but I got the hang of the trick. On the official forums, some refer to it as "Dizzy". Sounds ok, reminds me of street fighter. hehe...

Anyway, just a slight difference than others, right after I do my HO (LB>Dirty Tricks>H*something* Befuddling Strike/Quick Strike), I switch off attack then activate Cheap Shot, wait a moment and jump over the mob. As soon as I land, I hit Sneak Attack.

Before I started jumping over the mob, I would run around it. Sometimes I would start too fast and the mob would turn to face me. Now that I have a slight pause before I jump, the mob rarely turns. The only time it does, I'll guess is when the stun doesn't "stick" or my poison proc's and snaps the mob out of the stun.

First off let me start by saying that should always carry at least 4 vials of poison on you at a time. The poison buff duration is for a very long time but there is always death to take it away from you. Second don't even bother messing with casters, avoid them at all cost they just aren't worth the risk. Also keep in mind that the two tactics I'm gonna list here both will require practice, suggest trying green con solo melee based mobs to practice them on. Lastly keep practicing, its the only way you are gonna perfect your tactics and don't be afraid to try new ideas you never know what you will discover if you just apply a little thought into the process :)

Circle Stab - Activate Cheap Shot, while the timer goes up waiting for the ability to activate immediately turn off your melee attack. Once the Cheap Shot hits, immediately begin strafing around to the back of the mob, then click Sneak Sttack, Backstab, Ambush, Shadowblade ect. Be aware that if your using the stealth attacks for this tactic you'll need to have Sneak in the que behind Cheap Shot. Once Sneak begins to activate you should then que the appropriate stealth attack immediately behind it.

Bow Kiting - Activate Pathfinding to give yourself a bit of extra run speed and make sure Snare is up and ready to be activated also make sure your carrying at least 6 stacks of arrows and I recommend a bow with at least 37 meters range distance as well as food with at least average satiation for decent regen. Start off with a Strangling Shot or whatever your highest damage ranged attack is to pull the mob toward you, snaring as soon as the mob is within range. Here is where it gets tricky. Make sure you are autolocked on the mob meaning that when you move it keeps you facing in the direction of your target. Now run backwards away from the mob this way you can keep firing at it, hitting strafe every few seconds in order to run in wide circles and not leave the mobs aggro radius, when snare repops always tack it back on the mob. If done properly you can easily solo mobs 10 levels above you and not break a sweat, dangerous but its achievable. If you do managed to get hit against yellow and orange cons you'll stay ahead of them long enough that the food will regen what health they do manage to take but if your trying to take out reds like I do expect to die going in, this way when you do you won't be so aggravated about it, just dust yourself off and try again.

If I've left any details out here by all means fill them in.

here is how my rogue's fights:

sneak up on it + Ambush
Dirty Tricks
HO + Cheap Shot + Backstab
HO + Dirty Tricks + Quick Strike

You can use HO with quick strike almost constantly, so you do them untill you get your cheapshot enabled at which point you run cheapshot HO again. Normaly, any white mobs will go down by the end of the chain i have described though. Only need to do 1 backstab combo per enemy.

At lv 12 my normal attack routine is to shoot bow at max range cast entangle and back up for a few more shots (mini Kite.
Then upon melee range (not hitting autoattack) I hit cheepshot,
move through mob and hit ambush. It automatically turns you to face the mob and has never missed unless the cheep shot was resisted. I then hit autoattack and use HO's to seal the deal.
I always use poisons.
I easily solo yellow mobd (that dont cast)with little danger.
I can solo Oranges with if I pick the mob (though some times they bring me in the yellow/ red health wise.
Yellows casters are a toss up depending on my luck versus theirs.

Do not move to far through mob or else you will shoot another arrow.

When the new changes were introduced I lost the ability to kite my arrow shots. My usual tactic for my 23 ranger was to back shot and then back up firing off a frontal arrow attack. This no longer works.
