Is DAoC this bad?Follow

#1 Mar 29 2004 at 7:25 PM Rating: Decent
I used to play DAoC, but we all move on. Well i think that DAoC is the best RPG that is currently released. It is going to suck trying to play with no money and no armor. I have posted on many websites asking if Mythic has added something to help newbies. Most say that they added things to low lvl drops. but i have also heard that ther are absolutly no groups because of the /level thing that most people do once they get one of their chars to 50. Is it really true that there are no groups around and that it would be almost impossible to lvl?

I can vouch for the no group thing. What happens you pretty much solo till about 17-18, at least that was my first response to my having the LFG flag on...I mean you have your guild, but like you said, because of the /level feature their alts will still be higher than you. Its almost as if you intend on hanging out with your guild, then you WILL be powerleveled. Its difficult for me to accept this on my first toon, so I resort to kill tasks and early quests to fill in the gaps on my XP bar. Once I got to the high teens however, the tells did increase from other players LFG. It like one of my buddies stated, this game grooms you for PvP. All the other stuff you can go back and do later, just LEVEL already!!! While I tend to disagree, I can see where/why the /level feature is so popular.

yes they have. i have made a few other newbie toons just to check out some of the other servers and realms. by the time i hit 5th i had 4-5g just from kill/loot/sell.

yes groups can be hard to come by at times. the /task and /whisper task are great ways to get some solo xp/loot/bonus 1-20.

as a thane i can solo very well. even at 32nd i can still solo Oj (orange con) mobs with about a 99% success rate on them. i prefer to stick with yellow cons as i can kill faster with less downtime and in the end get to PLAY more instead of sit.

once i hit my teens i was able to get into some good groups, but then getting though mid 20s to were i am now was a pain. other then Bg1 groups were next to impossible to come by on my server.

now that im low 30s im getting groups when i want them. so life is much better from a group stand point, but solo life and the game are still great.

I don't know what server you're on, but I play on the Guinivere server in Hibernia and I have not had any problems finding groups yet. I have a 41 druid atm. I got a little tired playing with him for a bit ao I made a Nightshade. He's now 21 and I still don't have problems finding a group. I don't think I ever have. But, hey, that's just me. I can't apeak for other realms or other servers.

yes it is deffinatly a server/realm thing.

i know for one that on Gaheris(sp?) the albs have a rather large spread of toons, but on Bors mids have almost no newbies so i had a hard time with groups until i hit low 30s. now groups are coming much faster and easier.

so yes it is deffinatly server/realm based for finding groups. thus play around poke around in on different servers and realms and check whats out there. i still think its a great game, and will only get better with time.

Some servers are very low on population. You gotta remember, whatever the server #'s are, basically divide them by 3 since there are 3 realms. If you only have 1000 players per server (approximately 300 per realm), it can be difficult to find groups.

It is fairly easy to get from level 1 to level 20, especially in Shrouded Isles. Two words, Kill Tasks. You might run into a problem with weapons or armor if you're not in a guild, so try to join one quickly. There will always be someone who will help get you outfitted.

Actually, the /level feature didn't really kill grouping. It is so easy to level through Kill Tasks, that grouping at lower levels is more work, often for less monetary benefit.

What I've found in the year I have played DAoC is starting your first toon on a server should be a group friendly charactor like a healer/nuker. Tanks have a harder time leveling at first.

Once you have established a good network of players that are on at the same time as you(/friend <players name>). Or you have join a guild (a must). Leveling any toon will get easier.
