Up to 44 and as has been my practice on new servers, made an enchanter box to provide me with eternal "crack." Lately been hanging out in Karnor's which is very nostalgic for me. I have not run into any of the mage and necro armies eternally camping desirable spawns, which appears to be a big problem even on this brand new server. Really amazing to me that DBG seems to tolerate these automated "armies" which relentlessly pharm valuable drops to sell in /auction. But I've always valued my time over my money, since your time on this earth is limited no matter how much money you have, so I don't mind so much buying gear that can improve my toon without spending endless hours camping a mob, especially if in competition with cheaters and/or pros.
I already knew this next, but sometimes forget... what makes this the most fun is the social aspect. On FV I've been in the habit of six-boxing, and kind of lost touch with how enjoyable the game is when actually grouped with other RL players. On Mangler there are lots of "returnees" with fun nostalgic stories of the early days of EQ. It's funny how sometimes they "overreact" to dying, due to horrible memories of endless difficult corpse runs in the old days with the ever-present risk of losing "all your stuff" (all that priceless banded armor and +1 INT gear!) if the CR failed. Plus there is a goodly number of foreign players and it's a blast to talk with Brits, Danes and Aussies, who appear to dominate the overseas crowd.
Groups are almost trivially easy to obtain. I had to laugh because there was a post in EQ forums recently titled "Druids are worthless", lamenting how groups always prefer to dump a druid and replace him with a cleric, wizard or other "dedicated" class. What this poster misses is that it's not so much the class, it's how capable the player is. I was in a Karnors camp yesterday for about 6 hours straight (yes, once an addict forever an addict!) and as players had to log off I kept inviting new ones and the camp finished with my druid the only continuous member. Great XP and loot and no complaints from anyone as we pulled multiples about as fast as the respawn timers in a crowded zone would permit.
