Well, one could argue that a wizzard gets 4 different pets, so he wins. One could say that enchanters rule because the can't control their pet. Oh, wait...

Anyway, I doubt you will find anyone that will say "This pet is the best, hands down." Most of the time, it is situational. Also, a matter of preference. If there were one "best pet class" do you think anyone would play any other pet class?

Game balance. It is everything.

It's entirely a matter of opinion on how you like to play.

The mage gets 4 different types of pets and they become very powerful. If you like to sit back and nuke while your pet tanks, than the mage pets are best.

The beastlord gets a very powerful pet, too. If you like to melee a bit with the pet helping you, than beastlord pets are best.

Necro pets aren't as good a tank, but can still put out awesome damage. If you like to kite (aggro or fear), than the necro pet is best.

It all depends on your style of play to determine which pet you will think is best.

This is just a typo right Mr Tiedye. Smiley: wink2 Wizzies don't get pets to speak of.

I'd say BL pets are strongest, Nec's most dangerous and Mages most versatile

Editted as I reread the original post and realized I hadn't addressed it at all. 'gulp'

I tested a level 66 Mage Air pet vs. the level 67 Necro pet both armored with the same weapons and gear no buffs the Air pet mobbed up the floor with the Necro pet. Air pet had about 35% health left when the specter died

one aspect of the pet issue is how effective is it in saving your life? With the mage warrior pet you atleast have a chance to run when it roots the mob. Another issue would be to consider what you want to do with the pet. I'd say that necromacers realy don't even need pets since they can root DoT and sit. Mages don't get root and they have high agro DD's now normally the pet isn't all that useful at regaining agro but that root pet comes in very handy. My mage uses warrior pet as when he solos. Now when he's in groups he pulls out the air pet for the possibility of backstab. Really both classes pets are good but they aren't like having an extra friend or a group. Either way it's fun to have something to send in on a mob and let a bit of damge be dealt.

*water pet* what was I thinking /bonk

No pet Foci was used pets were both level 65, Mage pet does have combat agility 2 AAs and both pets have Critical hits and Flurry. Mage pet Crits for a max 168 and the Necro pet crits for a max 151. Mage pet regens a little faster then the Necro pet also.

It is the Water pet that will Backstab the Air pet Casts a Stun (6 sec on the level 66 Pet) and makes a great Tank also. With the added Hit Points and Stats from gear (suppose to be fixed Oct 12 patch :)) and fully Buffed can hold his own with a level 62 Sentry in HoH. I addmitt I dress my pets extremly well with tradeskill and dropped gear.

As the old joke goes, wizzies get pets by casting /ooc looking for a tank. When a tank is finally summoned it is an awesome pet able to keep agro and take great damage if it has good toys, and if it doesn't think too much.

Now don't flame me, it's a joke for any of you who are humor impaired.

Wizards get a sword pet that dies after mob dies don't they? Kinda like the Clerics hammer pets. Think they got like 100 hp (die usually in 1 hit if they take damage).

Don't forget about the shamans pet :p

Wizzy pets are pretty kool actually they dont die to AE dots on raids or AE ramp(though sometimes they do it's wierd) while other pets drop like rocks =p

Best pet(non charmed) is either the bst pet or mage pet(air or earth...i prefer air) this is tanking

best DPS pets are Mage water pet necro rogue pets and bst pets

Mage pet is the best with all the focus (epic etc) they get and the auto full armor/gear on it will win most fights. Only one close is Beastlord and I would take Mage over the BL on a very very close win for Mage pet but factor in what I see as a problem with BL pet push overall(not in duel cause who would care if pet pushed dueling a pet)and I then give it way over the top to Mage for versatility and strength.

Necro pet does what he is suposed to allow you some time to run away and FD and harry the hell out their **** the rest the time. But I wouldnt put him up pet for pet vs any mage or BL pet of equal level/exp/gear as me. Fresh summoned my pet wont have armor or pet weapons or focus items the mage pet does and get pwned. Only advantage I can see that might make it closer on the BL fight is that iirc their proc is a buff spell and doesnt just start on the mob like my pets tap or the mage's stun.

Btw I know mages get 4 pets but I never ever see em use anything but the air pet in my level range for raids/group/solo.

After the big 3 pet classes I would say shaman pet if nothing else they can buff the snot out of it. Then chanter pet very close if the chanter has spent the AAs. Followed by Cleric hammer. Then druid bear, sure hammer only lasts one fight but at least it can hit content in its level range for when you get it =P.

I think an equivalent warder and earth pet need to duke it out...those would be my guess for best pets.

I guess most of you don't play a high level beastlord if you think they can outfight a mage or necro pet. It dramatically drops off after 65, although the new discs and spell helps our burst dps, some. Beast pets after 65 are more like a shaman pet, not much more than a dot, or a speed bump while you run away. If you want a pet that can tank, get a mage pet, or even a necro pet. My pet has been one rounded so many times in raids that most of the time, its too much work to keep it alive. I spend all my time spamming heals rather than fighting. It's no wonder Beasts haven't a decent upgrade to pets until Darkhollow expansion, and that pet only lasts 18seconds.

Best pet...? Without a doubt its... the Druid's bear... my 'Sweety' can mop up the floor with a lvl 80 mob in 1.2 seconds.... of course, the bear would *be* the mop...

Which leads me to say that Sony has punked down many classes that were established on other games. Druids should have if not the best pets in the game, than one of the top 3, since they are 'Nature's Warders'

Even though the water pet has parsed much higher damage output? A good mage will use whichever pet is best for the situation. Any group leader tells me which pet to use...gate is my friend.

Jonwin has often said, along the lines of the wizard, that Cleric pets are the best. They can be summoned in ooc or any channel, and come equiped with their own gear. No nead to pay a mage for summoned items. Sometimes the pets will even summon Jonwin to their group.

Only problem with these pets are they want a share of the loot and exp

Wiestrum, Your right I dont have parses and have never really played long with a 70 BL, back when 65 was max there were a couple I played with who now play EQ2. I also have never really played a BL I have one I farted around with a bit on a dif server who made like level 35 I think.

As for necro pet TRUST me if it eats your pet it is gonna EAT mine only advantage here is that the 1 round my pet lasts should give me a shot a small one but a shot at FD. My 70 pet is a rogue so smush, great for kiting though, my 67 pet is a warrior but I have seen mage pets take stuff I wouldnt dream of thinking I could live thru trying to pet tank. Heh but really a necro only Pet Tanks on trash mobs, just not our forte.

I hate when mages use air pets in groups tank has to work harder to over agro it and somehow or another(usually b/c at times I have been known to over nuke >_> =p) I end up with the agro I prefer them to use water pets in groups unless of course they are pet tanking or off tanking then I love the air pet.

I think if a mage and bst dueled with pet spells a warder would win b/c of the procs, buffs, slows, and pet heals.

presonally for a group i prefer a bst since a bst is bascially 2 off tanks with one toon a back up(or main) slower and good dps. I don't dislike mages but I like versitility in groups(now when it comes to duoing/troing I love mages my group was shaman/mage/me and we kicked *** =p)

#26 Oct 09 2005 at 12:27 AM Rating: Good
bst pet push is 95% a result of their proc spells.. which are easy to disable/change if the situation calls for it.

I'm rather confused, being that it's 100% impossible for a pet to overaggro any player in melee range...
