Lucy vs AllaFollow

Is it just me, or is Alla WAY out of touch with updates on items? I see items added to Lucy DAILY with no addition to the Alla database... I thought they are the same force now, working together? This tiny item http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=86787
and nothing on Alla about it...
Just check http://lucy.allakhazam.com/newitems.html?type=new if ya wanna see the new stuff out there..
Why bother paying for premium to Alla? Updater doesnt work, items not listed, missions not listed, even whole zones missing...
Confused and NOT renewing my subscription...

Lucy data is collected in game. your profile updater for the site, should you use it sends everything new to lucy which updates things automatically. The site is full of submissions by players. In other words, the main site is run by people, lucy is by a computer script. While Lucy is more complete, the things manually inserted into the database actually make the main site preferable to me. It's all up to you. The more you submit to the website staff, the faster the site is updated :)

Something like that, but alla's site is still updated by Ralius, not autopopulated by Lucy.

This MAY be a tad obvious but...

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/

Have you ever scrolled down on the home page?

There is a list of every new item and every thing updated on Alla's site sorted by day.

The following is a quick copy from yesterday. On the page each name is actually a link to that item/quest/recipe.

And that does not include updates from players in the comments of those items/quests/recipes.

There are days I regret not renewing my premium membership. The way I look at it the only thing I use of it is the search functions that alone is almost worth the price of admission.

Heck if anything I somedays think they provide too much info for free. You can get any info for free it is just harder to find is all.

Remeber all the info here is viewer submitted. If something is missing submit it and it will be here for the next guy. Not once is 5 years have I submitted info, I never find it 1st but I don't complain about it missing either. Lucy has that stuff but no info on where it is found or how to get it becasue the sniffer picked up the info, someone did nto sit down and write out where/how they got it

This was the point I was trying to make. If Lucy gets these item and such autoscripted, why can't the data be scripted over to Alla? It doesn't seem that it would be too complicated to set-up, and would save alot of manual entry.

Lucy's collects raw data. It needs to be added to the site in context to make any sense to most gamers. You can't just link the data over...

I just saw an item in Lucy's named Deathspike. Nice stats, and an upgrade for me, but no other info. Where does it drop, is it player made? is it quested? Alla's provides that info that Lucy's doesn't. I think one would use Lucy to verify that an item actually exists, but it by no means complete.

I know that Lucy has items that AK doesn't but aren't they run by the same group(which makes me ask my AK is behind????????????????????????????????)

As has been stated by many, including myself, Allakhazams information is very detailed and is actually put in by a real person. Lucy's data is all just raw data that is received from the profile updater (i beleive).

A good comparision would be comparing mcdonalds food to restaurant food. While you can get Mcdonalds food really fast, it's pretty generic and isnt always that good. However at a nice restaurant they take their time to actually prepare your food. The food generally tastes better, but it takes a bit longer to get.

Lucy is the Mcdonalds portion of Allakhazam. everquest.allakhazam is the nice restaurant portion with all the details and everything.

I think it's neat that Allakhazam offers us both of these options. I've been using this site almost exclusively for over 5 years now, and it sure has grown. But, if the site isnt acceptable to your tastes i urge you to find one that is.

Hm. I don't know how much I like that analogy...

I think it's more like Allakhazam's is a restaurant, and Lucy's is like a produce truck with unprocessed food straight from the farm. Sure, if you know how to cook you can take the produce and feed yourself, but most people will just go to a restaurant where someone else prepares the food.

I play an ogre Debalic. To an ogre Mcdonalds, a restaurant, and uncooked food fresh off the truck are one and the same. But you're right, Lucy is pretty much just raw data. You get the point though.

edit: removed old WoW Sig.. I had to try it once, and cant beleive I did...

Not only that, but just because Lucy picks up a new item, doesn't mean that it will ever be attainable by players. The system they have in place make sure that only items that players can get (even if it's only once per server) make it into the Alla's database. It's just a simple check and balance. It works pretty well, and leads to the most accurate data that can be had.

Some notes here:

-Lucy gathers item data automatically. It is strictly statistical.

-Allakhazam tracks drop information, use of an item, involved quests, zone in which it is found, user comments, etc.

-Items which we have only statistical information on are usually not entered until additional information becomes known to us (see information I listed for Allakhazam).

Searches based on stats are doable on Lucy. Example: Search for 1HSlashing, Dwarf useable, with at least 20 AGI.

That said, we are looking into the possibility of merging the two databases. It is nowhere near as simple as the click of a few buttons. The complications and tweaks are significant. That difficulty, combined with the other features we are working on for the EQ site and sister sites, delays this. In the meantime, it is manual item entry.

If you have information to add to the site, email me: railus@allakhazam.com

Things that will speed the addition process up:
-/log on
-Completeness of information
-Quest logs including dialogues, proper NPC/item/zone names (not guesses)
-Readable email (see the list below)
-Proper image cropping and formatting

Things that will slow the addition down or bury your submission in my bottomless inbox:
-Lack of paragraphs and proper sentences
-Significant grammar failure, particularly for quests
-Bitmap files
-Holes in information
-Mob name/picture submitted with no zone given

There is more to add to these two lists. If I keep going, my nitpicking personality will begin to show (if it hasn't already).

Thank you all for the posts here, helped to clarify the situation alot for me. Its just frustrating for me (casual gamer, small guild) to see an item /ooc in POK, send /tell to player_001 only to get snubbed with no info on zone/quest/tradeskill etc. I too have subscribed to Alla for several years, and it has been an invaluable resource. I guess I need to work on my patience some more :p
