How long do you think EQ Will last?Follow
How much longer do you guys think EQ will last before most people are gone and isnt worth playing anymore?
Till Sony decides the the Cashflow going in does not equal Cashflow going out (plus a tidy profit).
It sounds like Sony is going to tie both EQ's together and charge people one price for access to both.
The Original EQ will not be going away for quite a long time.

It depends on how good EQ2 is going to work out. So far, I sounds like ****** If you die, your armor gets damaged thus lessining value, I have heard of no bazaar, No lucin, seems like classes are not powerful enough, and many more things. Personally, I am not switching overb until I hear some good reviews.
Well to make a completely uninformed guess I would say between 1 and 5 more years. I don't see allot of people jumping ship for EQ2 until all the bugs are worked out. However, I don't see EQ dragging on for more than 5 more years without a major graphics engine overhaul, much more than what was done with Luclin. And some serious attention to cleaning up items with no use and outdated quests.

As long as there is internet access there will be online games like Everquest. Everquest is here forever.
Something to think about when wondering how long EQ will be around. When did UO hit the shelves? How many thousands (tens of thousands?) people still play it.

If SOE continue to make a worthwhile profit and they continue to employ top quality designers, the game will continue.
Just watch, my bet is that DoG will outsell LDoN and LDoN outsold all previous expansions. The game just gets better and better.
About the graphics. Yes graphics are important, but not any where near as important as game play. EQ still has the best game play feel and probably the best AI.
But that doesn't mean you can relax guys (at SOE), keep working at it, lol.

I agree EQ will live as long as profitable, I dont think it will be THAT long though.
Not sure if this means expansions are getting better.
I didn't like LOY and LDoN. Only bought LoY for 16 bank slots, never even set foot there. Kunark, Velious, Luclin and POP were decent though, even if the whole flag / key thing is a bit of a hassle to anyone but the top 5 guilds on each server.

It will depend if "Horizon: Empire of Isatria" makes it to stay in business.
I'ts quite nothing more than a graphically better clone of (old)EQ but it features more community for the start (like selling your crafted items to contractors who sell it as vendors to the price you fixed - just like an anonymous bazaar in every town) and MUCH more for uber players (building a castle in all its glory for everyone to see - does that make some bored 60+ lvl drool?)

I'd agree that EQ is likely to hang around for some time yet.
Main reasons I believe this? :
No matter how good new offerings (EQ2 etc.) are, people have invested too much time, energy and money in their toons to jump ship. The fact that people will pay hard dollars to move a toon to a new server proves the point. SoE have kept us on our toes with upgrades, expansions and innovation. Every one brings new skepticism from players, but these keep the game fresh. System Spec. Few of us can afford to upgrade to an all-singing, all-dancing PC to run new, state-of-the-art games A critical factor for any MMORPG is the user-base and peer support. With EQ there are so many ways of picking the brains of other players (Allakhazam being a classic example) that we can share and overcome frustrations. Sure EQ2 will develop a big support base (there's already a huge range of support/fan sites) but it'll take a while to reach the scale of EQ.

I don't think EQ is going to go away anytime soon but I think It will loose alot of it's momentum very soon. WoW and EQ 2 will prolly take a great deal of the player base away. Plus there are alot of other games out there or comming out. I'm personally blown away by WoW right now I can't wait to see it when it goes live I think they have done a most excellent job on it from what I am seeing on the website. I just wish they would set a realaese date already.
EQ will be around for a long time. Why? becasue sooo many people have so much invested in it already. It's hard to walk away from a character you have spent years growing and shapeing, even if it is the slowest leveling ranger in the history of the game.

Well, I didnt think that EQ would last as long as it has. I left about three yrs ago for DAOC, and every other game to come out.
Every game that has come out has done something better than EQ; but they all lack content.
As for item decay - thats a good thing IMO.
DAOC had item decay based on the con of the item and your level -so high level items decay faster than low level ones. Very nice.
RvR is interesting and keeps alot of people playing, but alot less content than EQ.
Shadowbane had alot of cool classes, but no content and crappy movement.
Horizons had multi-classing, but they screwed that up royally, and no content.
EQ2 will be a big improvment, but there will still be alot of improvement from other games.

Read this and see if it will help you figure it out. ( https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=1074573157810066119&num=3 ) what better way to get you to leave EQ than totally ***** up what little customer service there is already ? EQ Will last until they have made sure EQ2 is on the shelf, they will then death-blow EQ and force you to play a total screwed game or move to something else.
