Tonberry Kinq Picture

It seems this Tonberry is jokingly called “King” because of the crown he bears, but the details are unknown.

Some/all of the information in this article has been culled from various FFXI guides, and translated by Elmer the Pointy.

I must be the only person to ever camp this NM

Finally popped him after I don't know how many hours of intermittent farming attempts. Tonberry Kinq (yes, it's a q) provided no challenge for a SAM75/37THF. I was prepped to 2-hour but didn't even have the chance as the fight was over too quickly. Starting with 220 TP I used Sekkanoki Y-> G and the Fragmentation killed him off (I was taking a screenshot or two before the SC so factor in another ~600 damage from melee) Interestingly, the Kinq never Astral Flowed. Granted, I dove on him before he could summon an avatar but normally SMN NMs will auto-summon a random avatar for their 2-hour *shrug* Suppose if you kill him fast enough it won't be an issue ^^

Drops were 28,054 in gil (w00t!), Coat, Lantern, and Water Spirit Pact. No Light Spirit but the gil and sense of accomplishment of finally camping him successfully were worth the time spent.

Edit: And yes, he spawns directly on top of the little throne in the room

If you mean mini quest: dude, you can trade the fork to the quest guy and he'll warp you to the crystal.

The party I was with just did ZM4 and found him walking around outside, we took him and he dropped a Light Spirit Pact. Thought you might want to update his drop information.

I was doing Summoner AF coffer when it popped behind the Tonberry Kinq. After opening the coffer and dying, a 75WHM (Toby) and 60SMN (Izzy) myself decided to duo it, we pulled the elemental seperate from the Kinq, so we didnt have to fight both. About half way through the fight, the Kinq used Astral Flow and Ifrit came out of the wall and Inferno'ed us. We both survived and killed him. Dropped Tonberry Coat and Lantern and like 9k gil each. It's Tonberry KINQ not KING for future refrence ^^.
Drop?

No, SMN NMs have an elemental, just like normal SMN mobs. The only difference is, whether or not you kill the elemental, the NM can and will use Astral Flow. When they do this, they summon a (sometimes) random avatar (like insta-cast summon) and it does its Astral Flow move, then disappears. It does this whether you've killed the NM's elemental or not (i.e. even if the elemental is right there, the avatar will come out at the same time to use it's 2hr then disappear).
Whee...

While I had an alliance doing ZM4, one of the pts found this bugger as the exited the BCNM. It aggroed em, so they took it on. Didn't drop anything too great, but hell, they killed a king, the THF mugged a crapload of gil, and it dropped them like 5000 gil each. And after getting mauled by Tungs'iton's 2-hr, they were all glad to maul a tonberry right back...

It says that this mob is a summoner? If it is, does anyone know what it can summon? More tonberries? Ifrit? ...Odin?
