In-Game Text

Description

The lenses of the Optistery's telescopes need replacing. It would help out the stargazers astronomically if you could focus on gathering the items they need to repair them.

When you talk to Ropunono he says he thinks his sight is failing, or maybe it's the telescopes. He talks about constellations in the northern skyline and also mentions the materials needed to make 'stellar mirrors' are dropped by powerful monsters in the Northlands...

Go to Ranguemont Pass and kill Ahriman type mobs that are near the Beaucedine zone until you get an Ahriman's lens.

Go back to the Ropunono and trade him the lens. Do NOT go straight to the Maze, or you will lose your key and nothing will happen. He will then tell you about a shielding piece. That piece can be found near the Buburimu Penninsula entrance of the Maze of Shakhrami, in the room where Argus spawns (check the nm Argus for exact location). There is a iron door there.

To open the door, you need a rusty key. Rusty key drops fairly often from wights in the Maze.

When inside, there are 3 chests. Use any chest, it doesnt matter. Once you click on the chest, you will be offered the possibility of choosing a shielding piece: something like "the coin shows Shiva to the West, would you like to take this coin?"

Say NO.

The idea is that 99% of pieces in chests are fake. If you bring back a fake peice, you get nothing and have to find another rusty key and do it again. (quite a frustrating experience... trust me)

In order to know if the piece is fake or not, look at the star map before you head out to the Maze, (a npc near Ropunonno will show it to you). It shows the constellations and the direction they are.

Example: you will get 99% of coins saying Shiva pointing to west, and all of those are fake, because Shiva is East. So at some point a coin will be generated that says "Shiva pointing East" that's a real one.

But let's say you are in the room right now and can't go back to Windurst to check the map, generate until you hit one of the following:

Alexander: North-East Ifrit: North-West Leviathan: West Odin: North Shiva: East Titan: South

Return to Ropunono for your reward.

I must be really lucky. It only took me and a 75 RDM/DNC killing two of the Evil Eyes on my way to have Dark Spark killed to get one of the Ahriman Lens'

Well, I didn't follow the instructions and went to the maze (on some totally unrelated matter) before turning in the lens. How do I recover from this?

SE Drop Rates ._.

The drops for this quest suck. My friend and I killed the Eyes in the Pass for over 4 hours and only got 1 lens, then we went to Tele-Vhazl with a 74BST friend and he killed for over 4 hours to get another lens. I'm in the Maze right now and we've been at this for at least 3 hours and gotten two chest keys and only one rusty key. We'll get the other one eventually for my friend, but geez, drop rates suck when you can only kill 3 wights in this particular area (leech room), but I must say, chaining all those leeches and watching them die to cyclone is fun. ^^ g/l with the drops

I thought that maybe Ghouls or Wendingos would drop they key, but they do not. Only Wights. Just thought that maybe some people would like to know this.

Did this quest today, it does have a title:

Night Sky Navigator

Coindicently, I was very shocked when I did it. The first chest I opened was Odin to the North. So it all comes down to luck on your part - the key drop is a little bad but I got it within about 6 wights in the leech room. Also, it should be noted, since it is not in the walkthrough, that there are other chests in the room that have nothing in them, or say they will not open. Keep checking until you find one that does.

We got 2 rusty keys while finding shakrami keys for RSE. we got then in the big room near I. Ire area, and in the path to that room where 2 skeleton nests are located opposite of each other, with worms in between. must have got some 10 absorb spells in that time, and 2-3 shakramis keys.

nearly 20 kills and still no drop. for the amount of time you put in to do it, this quest is not worth it at all.

the poster that says it drops fairly often was extremely lucky.

Actually check your rank as some quests only open up at higher rank high fame isnt always enough
RE: How many Windy Quests?
# Jun 26 2004 at 4:56 PM Rating: Excellent
Yes, this is a upper level fame quest for windurst.

simply doing 40 quests isn't enough. You didn't mention, but if any of those are repeatables, you can count their value as about .25

Also, you have to do all of the quests downstairs in the library, and the quests in the rhinostery also in order to activate this quest.

Quests like.. The bookworm quests, Water way to go, food for thought.. etc..

I solod this quest at 48 easily. Most frequent key drops seem to be from the club wielding wights outside of the place where you can fight Ichorous Ire. The scythe wielders also drop Tractor here frequently if u need that scroll. I was also lucky enough to kill Leech King while I was doing this quest^^

Some of us don't do quests just for rewards and fame. Personally, I do quests purely for the sake of doing them (or in some cases, for the interesting story involved). I found this quest to be rather fun. :P

2 years later I must agree with you. I like dialogs, scenes, getting titles and filling the quests list a lot.

Learning subtle, sometimes minimal, parts of FFXI story is beautiful ^_^

Fun !!

Ok guys, ill help a little here with this quest caus it sure seems incomplete

you go to ranguemont pass and kill ahrimans type mob that are near the Beaucedine zone. you get your lens. WE had to kill about 15 of them for 2 drops.

Go back to the npc and trade him the lens!!! Do not go straight to maze, or you will lose your key and nothign will happen.

He will then tell you about a shielding piece. That piece can be found near the bubu entrance of maze, in the room where Argus spawns (check the nm Argus for exact location). There is a iron door there.

To open the door, you need a rusty key. Rusty key drops fairly often from wights in maze.

When inside, there are 3 chests. Use any chests, it doesnt matter. Once you click on the chest, you will be offered the possibility of choosing a shielding piece: something like " the coin shows Shiva to the West, would you like to take this coin?"

Say NO. Lol

The idea is that 99% of pieces in chests are fake. If you bring back a fake peice to the npc, you get crap, and have to find another rusty key and do it again. (quite a frustrating experience... trust me)

In order to know if the piece is fake or not, look at star map before you head out to maze, (a npc near the quest npc will show it to you) It shows the constellations and the direction they are.

Exemple: you will get 99% of coins syaing Shiva pointing to west, and all of those are fake, because Shiva is East. So at some point a coin will be generated that says "Shiva pointing East" thats a real one.

But lets say you are in room right now and cant go back to Windy to check map (like it hapenned to me lol...) generate until you hit "Alexander to the North-East". You might have to generate about 50 of them, but that coin is always right.

Quest reward is 4800

My pleasure...

No.

While its not possible to reach the Tahrongi side from the Buburimu side (but the opposite is possible), there is a good chunk of Shakhrami Maze that is accessible from Buburimu. The locked door is in this section.

u can exit to Buburimu from Shakhrami but once u fall off the ledge outside it is immpossible to get back p the ledge to get ack inside of Shakhrami. It is a one-way route.

Go the other way around the mountain, and you can get in. There are two routes to the entrance, and only one has a cliff.

What you need to do is get an Ahriman lens from the Ahrimnan type creatures in the beginning of the Raungmont pass area... that is the first item, the other taru that talks about old currency helping is referring to what is behind the door in the Maze of Shakrami (it is easier to find this door if you enter from the Buburimu entrance) which you need a Rusty Key (Rare Ex item) to open...inside there are chests that have coins with constellations on them...I hope that this helps...

Bubu entrance to the maze is at F-6... kinda tricky to get to, but walk around a bit and you'll find it. It's kinda hidden behind some rocks.
