Summary

A lump of Bomb Steel and a Sacred branch are required to make a new katana. You will have to ask Jaucribaix's pupils to find out where you can get these items.

Walkthrough

To begin this quest, you will need to speak to Jaucribaix in Norg.

To get there, rent a chocobo in Kazham and head all the way south to the outpost. Stay in Yuhtunga Jungle and beware the holes. Two are connected to each other and will bring you back out to the Outpost and another will take you nowhere. You will need to fall through the hole nearest to the waterfall. Head outside and straight towards the right side of the waterfall as you see it. This will take you to Sea Serpent Grotto.

Once at Sea Serpent Grotto, you want to either have Sneak on you or use silent oil. Once you are set, stick to your right and make every possible right turn you can. Eventually you'll reach a Stone Gate. Click on it to open it. Remember to recast sneak/silent oil if it wears off. Proceed the same way guiding it to the right, you'll get to some steps and you'll see a series of arches on that path. This leads to Norg.

Once in there, go to the right and you can either go up through the path on your right (past the chocobo). Go all the way to the end of the hall and you'll find Jaucribaix. Talk to him and he'll tell you about the ways of a samurai and inform you he needs a Bomb Steel and Sacred Branch. Next, go down the long steps and talk to Aeka, she'll give you the Oriental Steel. To the left of the steps somewhere in the back is Ranemaud, he'll give you the Sacred Sprig.

To get back to Kazham from Norg, rent a chocobo. As you head out, guide it to the left and you'll find a path that takes you up (don't try to go back the same way you came in, because you CANNOT). Once you are on the level above just keep going all the way North to Kazham.

The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah

To get to the Sanctuary, rent a chococo in Port Jeuno and head out to Sauromugue Champaign and zone into Meriphataud Mountains. From there, head East and go to Zi'Tah, you can see it on your map at (M-4). You can also reach the Meriphataud Mountains from Tahrongi Canyon.

Make sure you have at least one hatchet with you and go east to (K-10), where you will find a sort of tunnel. Go through it all the way to (L-9) (this point doesn't show on the map) and look for a ??? on a huge tree. Use your hatchet on the ??? and a Guardian Treant will spawn. Defeat it and obtain the the Sacred Sprig. Trade the sprig to the ??? and you'll receive the Sacred Branch.

Konschtat Highlands

Go to (D-8) and head into a tunnel. At the end there will be a ???. When ready, trade the Oriental Steel to the ??? and Forger will spawn. Defeat it and he will drop a Bomb Steel.

Once you have both items, head back to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix. During the cutscene, Gilgamesh will appear and say your reward will be ready in 3 days (3 real life hours). Return after this time and you'll receive the Mumeito and the ability to become a Samurai.

omfg who the fk writes these walkthroughs?
they are fking horrible...

o ya you need to talk to Jaucribaix in Norg... this is how you get to norg and how to get back to khazam.
o btw im going to fking hide the fact you need to talk to another npc in the middle of how to get there/leave....

Who the fk cares about how to get there and to khazam... how is that even relevant? if you dont know how to get there, u obviously aint fking soloing it and will have other people with you, and if you dont know the way, you shouldnt be getting the damn quest in the first place....

If you want to post how to get there, do it fking somewhere else, like its own section on how nto get to norg and back.... you dont put it in the main walkthrough and fking put a message about talking to another npc in the middle of it...

Soloed the bomb as a 50 drk/25 nin. Killed worm till 300 tp. Used souleater+bloodweapon right off the bat. Used a potion+1 at the end but didn't need it.
Went to take on the trent and ran into 3 other people about to kill the tree. They had a 50 something nin tanking, also brd and thf. Fight lasted about 6 seconds. I think I got one maybe two hits in.
Only had part is having to watch repeats of bleac till my new katana is ready.
Not so bad at 42

Solo'd as a 42BLU/NIN.. I set out for the Treant first because I heard he was the tougher of the two. He hits fast but seems to have pretty low accuracy. Had me worried for a second but I kept him locked up with Head Butt and unloaded Red Lotus > Jet Stream (Fusion) on him when I built tp. After that it was pretty much OV. The bomb was just cake. Had no problem keeping shadows up on him.

I'd say this is an easy solo for most classes by 50.
hard like a bow ner

Tried this as a 75 BST and had lots of problems. I died on the Bomb 2x it self-destro and the treant got me once. I would recommend a party of 6 75s or an alliance of 60+s at minimum. GL
dont need a high level.

solo'd this quest as a 40 war/mnk with a 32 adventuring fellow set to healer. Used 2hr for both fights but probably didnt need it for the bomb. no expendable items used.

As a 40 war/mnk. I probably would have done better as /nin, but I seem to lack the finesse to make that 1 utsusemi work for me.

Forger 1st, used mighty strikes, dodge, and warcry immediately. Went in without any tp and had to wait to use Sturmwind until I had some. Used 3 hi-potion+3 over the course of the fight but I probably didn't need the last one. It went much better than I expected. Ended with about 200 hp.

The Guardian Treant was a little harder for me. I fought some of the goblins in the area for about 90% tp first, ended up leveling to 41, then engaged. Used Mighty Strikes and dodge immediately, then threw out Armor Break when tp was 100%. When Mighty Strikes wore, I used warcry, then finally used Sturmwind to end the battle. Had to use 2 hi-potions+3, and 3 regular hi-potions. I may not have needed the 3rd hi-potion but a high level player was standing there watching me fight and I didn't want to chance looking like an idiot by dying. Ended with around 170-200 hp, I think. Again, it might have been easier to /nin, but whatever. REMEMBER TO BRING A HATCHET!!

Soloed this very easy << 60Drg/17Blm At The Time. Wyvern killed tree, I was out of range the entire fight hit like 20-30's and my wyvern hit 120+. The bomb was too weak as well abit harder than the tree stat wise. still only did 90damage to me in all no heal no wyvern out killed it in about 1:30sec
easy
# Apr 06 2008 at 7:49 PM Rating: Decent
Soloed this with very little difficulty using my cousin's 49MNK/DNC.

I built up about 100tp before each fight just in case, but I think I would've been fine without it. The tree was really easy; he missed a lot and did low damage when he did make contact. The bomb seemed a lot more accurate and was hitting me for 70-120 each time, so I was spamming curing waltz most of the fight. Regardless, I never dropped below 800HP (1040 max) during either fight, so it wasn't too bad.

Oh, and in case you somehow missed it.. BRING A HATCHET FOR THE FIGHT IN ZI'TAH :p

Good luck to all the future Samurai ^^

Killed it with a 41 rdm and a 30 rdm
# Jan 28 2008 at 2:51 PM Rating: Decent
Killed The Forge at first attempt with a Rdm/Blm elvaan (41/20) partying with a Rdm/whm hume (30/15) using chainspell (2-hour). At the beginning i thought we won´t do it, but after i used chainspell on me with a bunch of cures i was again on the fight. Near the end it became easier (it used self-destruct). Paralyze was our best bet. It casted berserk all the time. Without berserk i was hitting 20-30 at it, and with berserk i was hitting it for 30-40. My partner hit it by 16-20. I think we were very lucky.
Worst Walkthru Ever!!
# Nov 06 2007 at 12:05 PM Rating: Default
This walkthru is way too long and has too much worthless info. It has been nothing but a pain in the ***. Next time you post something like this, please keep the walkthru sweet but short. Also, info like having a hatchet before you go to the Sanct. should be posted BEFORE you even describe how to get there. Bottom line, walkthru should be simple to read, because most of us are reading while we are playing.

1)Go to <place> @ <pos>.
2)talk to <npc> @ <pos>.
3)go to this zone and find a ??? @<pos>.
4)trade <item> to ??? and <name> will spawn.

those 4 lines = about half of the walkthru. get the Idea?

Ok I just did this quest and it was awsome but the waiting for 3 hours to finish the damn quest that is what I hate. So I have learned that if you have a White Mage that can tele you all over then this quest takes around 1-2 hours tops but that isn't counting the waiting for 3 hours for your GK gets made. hope this info helps you.

I did this quest as a 41THF/20WAR with Crazykilla and Craxymagician

sam job quest in mh
# Sep 16 2007 at 12:55 AM Rating: Decent
ok I know I might be replyin to some old posts, but just finished this quest as a 30war/12mnk changed jobs in norg to hp death warp back to jueno, didn't have ability to change to sam job.Soon as I ran to mh in jueno was able to switch to it, I guess there is a delay in the games ability to detect you have quest finished...anyway hope this info helps

just did this as 45 PLD/war (me) with a 30 WHM, the bomb was np, buffed up, spawned, i kept hate and attacked, whm debuffed it and healed me, i was taking maybe 20-30 dmg a time and hitting for like 40-50...quite easy not a real problem, it uses berserk near the end

as for the treant, i found this to be slightlier more diffcult as it has alot higher def, i used berseker and the WHM used dia and i was still hitting for around 20-30 however it also hits less then the bomb so this balances out, mainly uses a pinecomb skill whcih hit me for aorund 70-90

both were quite easy and posed no real threat, i would say this could be done solo by a 45 PLD/WHM if they used food and had some potions as a possible back up (not too sure how much i was relying on healing of WHM)

Anyone think a 56Brd/28whm can solo these mobs?

nvm. Treant was cake. Bomb was little harder, but really no problem.

Solo'd 60PLD/WAR took maybe 100 damage on both battles total. What a joke.
Very Easy
# May 07 2007 at 12:40 PM Rating: Decent
Went as a 47thf/23nin last night with a 50blm/25whm to fight the tree and the bomb. The fights were a lot easier than I expected. The bomb didn't even touch me with utsusemi up and the tree hit me once. A 47thf can easily defeat these to nm's fairly easily. Just remember to bring a hatchet for the tree!!!
Solo attempt a success

Chopped the tree down last night as a WAR48/MNK24. Took a Boiled Crab Meat and my level 32 NPC, drank a thing of Selbina Milk because I like milk, and used my Mighty Strikes ability (since I hardly ever use my 2 hour for some reason) during the battle. Fairly easy I thought. Dont think my NPC helped much, the tree missed me quite a bit (especially with its pine cone bombs), and I ran outta there with roughly 764/1049 HP. Was feeling pretty confident and decided to take on a Golem afterwords.... big mistake. Luckily my warp scroll went off somehow. Anyways, the bomb is even easier than the tree, so I'd assume any level 46-47 with good equip, hi-pots, and whatever other food/meds could probably solo the tree, and thus the bomb. Excited to go home today to obtain my Great Katana and begin leveling SAM. Good luck to all those solo adventurers!
WTF??

I'd seriously prefer "Go to norg and talk to Jaucribaix at (K-8)" over:

Quote:
1. First thing you need to do is get to Kazham. Once there, grab a Chocobo and head all the way south to the Outpost (Stay in the first Jungle and dont fall under any holes). From where you start head straight up (even though you'll actually be traveling south) guide it to the right and go through the tunnel, afterward make a couple of turns either to the left or the right, just keep looking at your compass and make sure youre heading south all the way to the outpost. Now be careful because there are like 3 holes here. 2 are connected to each other and will bring you back out to the Outpost and will take you nowhere, you need to fall through the hole nearest to the waterfall. Head outside and straight towards the right side of the waterfall as you see it. This will take you to Sea Serpent Grotto.

2. Once at Sea Serpent Grotto you want to either have a WHMor RDM cast sneak on you or use Silent Oil, it is said that you will also need Invisible or Prism Powder, but its not really necessary, plus you get to a point where you have to open a gate and if you are invis you wont be able to. Once youre set stick to your right and make every possible right turn you can. Eventually youll reach a stone gate click on it and open it. Remember to recast sneak/silent oil if it wears off. Proceed the same way guiding it to the right, youll get to some steps and youll see a series of like arches on that path, eventually youll get to Norg.

3. Once in there go to the right and you can either go up through the path on your right (past the chocobo) or just go up the long steps, you cant miss it (its on your right). Go all the way to the end of the Hall and youll find Jaucribaix.
