Just recently started making mulsum. This is the first cooking recipe that I've ever made a profit on, and I've made about 120k profit so far this day. I'm likin' it, I'm no longer poor~
Grape Juice = 6k -- Synthed my own, about 6k per stack with Hades crystal prices. Honey = 4-5k at Hades prices. Water = 144g from merchants Ice Crystals = 5k from AH
SO -- Total cost is ~16k. The going price in Jeuno is 30k, so I make almost 50% profit. Not too shabby, eh? Also, on a good day I can make about six stacks in two hours (muling ingredients is a B,) so that's 90k an hour. Pretty decent profit, better than silks or beehive chips on Hades.
Ice crystal x12 - 2k honey x12 - 8k distilled water x12 npc - 150 grape juice made myself x12 - about 5k --------------------------------------- 15,150G to make, sells 40k a stack on my server skilling from 51-56 made money for me.

Well I'm lvling my cooking on my mule and its up to lv 52 after 1 week and mulsum is what I'm doing to 56. Profit wise, leviathan AH in jueno is holding at 19-20k per stack.
Water 12 x 12 Honey = 3.5k in windy Grapes = 33 x 48 in sandy, dark crystals easy farm item in the glacier region Ice crystals = easy staff skill up on elementals
Other then the fact that I'm farming my crystals and getting staff skill ups, STILLL, im looking at cost being, with tax about 7-7.5k tops, and profit of 12k at least. Not too bad for this lvl of cooking if I do say so myself.
on midgard this is a pure profit/ break even synth for 52ish and skilling up:
12 juice @ 930g per = 11,160g 12 water @ 10g per = 120g 12 honey @ 416g per = 5000g 12 crystal @166g per= 2000g Total: 18,280G cost AH: 20,000 steady.
at 52 cooking with out synth support i am rarely failing synth and getting a skillup every 5 or 6 synths. putting these back on the AH it's about break even, counting breaks here and there. I just bought up about 7 or 8 stacks of each ingredient and am sitting in front of yoskolo in jeuno right now buying juice for the synth.
another thing that i like about this recipe is 12+ synths only takes up 1 AH slot, as the yield is 1 mulsum per synth.
I know this is a response to a post made a long time ago but I made some of this because I had farmed the crystals and had a lot of honey. I did get some skillups but I could not sell it for love nor money. Luckily I made less than two stacks ~ kept a few odd ones and npc'd the rest. If you know an alchemist who could use this ~ you might do better to sell direct to them.
As to the mention of the REAL recipe for mulsum(not the FF in-game synth recipe), it's actually pretty simple.
Warm 1/2 cup clear honey and add it to a bottle of medium-dry white wine. Chill before serving.
My brothers and I do some home brewing. I don't drink beer, so I brew mead(honey wine). I found out about the mulsum recipe from the beekeeper I get my honey from, though I've yet to try it. ;)
Who buys mulsum and why? 10mp how is that usefull past level 10? Someone mentioned HLs spam this for mp, but at 10k a stack wouldn't an ether, or even a high-ether be more efficient and effective? <Hmmm>
BTW- On Alexander, Honey is now at about 3-5K a stack!!!!! @_@ I assume it has to do with the abundance of mid-level cooks making pies...
Lets do math shall we? 12 mulsums = 120 mp :D which is a stack 1 ether is 20 MP For about 4400 - 5000 idk Hi-Ether is 50 mp.
Hm...Hi ether takes 5 or so seconds to use so...? Ethers can be used just like mulsums but they don't stack.
Mulsums heal 10 mp x 12 = 120 for ONE slot. takes some time to repeativly use it but it beats ether and Hi-Ether in the space use. Also its nice to use if your a summoner >.> Cheaper
:D that is why people buy Mulsums! More mp for the slot space
/laugh all On Asura.... Grapes: 76g each = 3.8k to make 12 grape juices Dark Cluster = 4k Honey = 2.2k distilled water x12= 120g (for me anyways) Ice Crystals = 1.5k per stack Yield: 12 Mulsum Stack of Mulsum in jeuno: 17k - 505 g from putting them at AH So costs 12.125g (including tax to put at AH) which is 4.875g profit per stack.
I use the things myself. They pretty expensive but damn usefull. There have been times when 10 mp has thrown the tide of an otherwise losing battle.
If you have ever used an Ether or Hi-Ether you would instantly know the reason. It takes almost 10 seconds for one of them to take effect. The battles I have been in are long decided before then. Mulsum's are as fast as a Potion.
Well for one it is expensive to make. Grape juice itself costs a bit to make. Add up the price of the ingredients, you'll spend at least like 8k making a stack of it. Thats if you don't break any.
You can really load your mp back up by spamming off a few stacks of this, its really nice when you need mp. It works instantly and high levels use it(and high levels have gil to spend.)

Actually, IRL mulsum would be made with wine, not grape juice. It would be served very cold, and is quite refreshing. It was a popular drink with the Romans, and was prescribed as a medicine to restore depleted mental energies. Dr. Dee (Queen Elizabeth's favorite magician and alchemist) mentions it in the chapter on 'the prolongation of life.' It is described as 'the Dew of Heaven', 'whereby he became renued in spirit, body and excellency' upon consuming the golden liquor known as Mulsum.
Well, take a quick look at the recipe for the grape "juice". You're taking grapes and using a crystal that creates the effect "spoil" when you synth. And spoiled grapes are. . . (pause for suspense) WINE!!! Why not just call it wine you ask? Did SE call the new female only fabric subligar panties? No. Would they dare call the new bathing suits bikinis? No. Are the even adventerous enough to, *gasp* have guys in game walking around without shirts? No. Don't get me wrong, good post, you just have t learn to speak Enix-ese =P
