Spawned on the east side for me, east of the wiz pyramid with undead. Brother Qwinn, Kurrpok Splitpaw were up at the time.

Spawn-mapping Grizzleknot

Followed this guy for over two hours, I wanted to see if he shared a spawn with some of the other super-rares from this zone. He roams the entire zone. He never entered the SW quadrant.
He re-spawned 80sec after kill as an elephant. Important to note, the elephant re-spawn was no where near his path.

The last Grizzleknot spawn was on the Northeast shore. While the original Grizzleknot spawn I spent over two hours following spent most of his time on the west side of the zone, every one of his re-spawns were on the East side of the zone. If you draw a large C from the East wall through the Centaur Village down to a bit north of the Hermit Hut and back to the East wall. That is the area where all of his PHs spawned as well as the two mid-mapping spawns. Hope this helps the next guy.

Grizzle PH spawn in the NE part of the zone on the 60-70s spawn time like most of the other named in SK. From east or even with the centaur town AND north of the hermit hut all the way to the water in north. I killed 76 PH before he spawned.

PH are as follows, number of spawns in brackets:
1. a lioness [21]
2. a lion [17]
3. a mist wolf [5]
4. an escaped splitpaw [14]
5. an elephant [5]
6. a cyclops [1]
7. aviak's (any random) [5]
8. centaur's (any random) [2]
9. a shadown wolf [6]

The spawn cycle was: 1 1 2 1 3 1 1 6 5 7 4 8 2 1 3 1 9 2 4 2 1 2 1 4 4 9 7 4 4 5 1 1 3 1 2 2 1 4 1 3 9 3 4 1 2 2 9 9 2 1 1 4 9 2 4 5 8 2 5 4 4 7 1 1 1 5 7 2 2 2 2 2 4 4 7 1 GRIZZLE

So PH is mostly lion, lioness, and escaped splitpaw. If you find yourself on extreme east part of map running between hermit and north water then you are on the correct cycle. Good luck!

I could try to explin my experience with tracking and killing in this zone. Try to think of several convayer belts. They all have multiple spawn, but for argument sake, pretend each convayer belt has ONE rare spawn. So dont think in terms of place holder, think in terms of that slot. I didnt believe this when I read it from another but it works. Someone hunting Quel was there for like 5 days. I tracked and we ONLY killed the NEWEST spawn, keeping an eye on what filled that blank. You really need a ranger with full tracking. And we got Quel to spawn within a half hour and again later on in about an hour. you run around a lot, but it cycles the mobs much faster

Came across him today, decided to kill him despite the possible faction hits, here's what I got:

-Unkempt druids
+Guards of Qeynos
+Jaggedpine Treefolk
-QRG Protected Animals

I'm still warmly to the animals, so the hits can't be that bad. Might be a different story if I went around slaughtering all the PHs to get him to spawn though...

I see all these messages, A ranger helped me track and healed me, a Druid ran by healing me... Uhhhh I heard that the faction for killing a Treeant was deplorable. Like a seriously bad idea. Is this the case with this guy? It would be nice if he was on some kind of corrupt faction. Why do they do this to us? Make really nice druid gear drop off a guy, that, if killed will mutilate our faction. I want this staff bad for my druid. Maybe I will take the hit? I think the only safe tracker would be a bard :D

3 hours after my groups kill the flying white horse, I continue to hunt down gnoll in the hill section of the spire zone when i see it pass behind me and continue heading out to aviak city. He move pretty fast and he stop rarely. I decide to hunt him down because im intriged by the staff he got in the hand, he coin blue to me and i know to monster with a strange name are always rare spawn. When i begin my attack, im surprise to see this treant CAN be cast spell on you, like fire DD spell and root. He root my pet, so i lost my main attack pontential but with reverse kitting is not a problem.

He give to me the treant staff and a other this but is not a cloak. Is something more strange.I give the staff to my little brother ( is now happy to get a rare weapon :-) ) A lv 7 mage. After that, a friend tell me this tree is a super rare spawn and i am lucky to kill it because he past the last 2 week to try to kill it.

Be careful went you attack this super rare treant. I resist the spell because i got resist boost but he can hit to 50 dam easy with spell. And you know NPC got unlimited mana he never need to restore mana and rest. A lv 30 pure caster can solo him but for a melee is more difficult. I suggest to get a friend with you if you a melee caracter.

Actually NPCs dont have an unlimited mana pool. .. it just seems that way sometimes. Healers for instance, if you were to root one it wouldnt try to run at all it would just keep trying to heal itself when it gets low on life and then finally stop when it runs out of mana.

After talking to several people on the Lanys server and reading comments on several boards, I think it is safe to say that Grizzleknot is a rare and random spawn, with an emphasis on the random.

I, too, have spents RL days waiting for him to pop and tried to guess what the methods to his madness may be. However, I am still in search of this creature.

I know the stats are not that great, but I have to say that the totemic armor on a Barbarian shaman is some of the best-looking armor in the game. I have everything except the totemic mail and hope to randomly stumble across him because I am sick of SK at this point. :o)

Just my 2cp.
GrizzleKnot's PH
# Jun 26 2002 at 6:18 PM Rating: Decent
Is his ph named "a wandering treant" or is it a treant that wanders?

RE: GrizzleKnot's PH
# Sep 27 2002 at 1:10 AM Rating: Decent
If his PH is one of the treants, it would most likely be the treant that wanders. The treant that wanders through SK seems to follow the same path as Grizzleknot. The only thing that is strange is Grizzlknot's faction is directly opposite the treants. For a while I was thinking he might spawn to protect the treants from being killed anymore, but with opposite faction, I am at a loss.

4 or 5 months ago my then 29 Pally was in SK and just came upon him. Truth be told I hadn't heard of him before. My 3 Pally Shields were on so HP was about 1050. Has a BAB as melee weapon. I killed him but it did take a while. I was down to about 40 or 50HP whe he died. He had the cloak and no-drop bark. I announced the bark but no takers. Used the cloak for a while and ended up giving it to a guildie.

My new "main" - although lower than the Pally - a 25 Druid, has been in SK the majority of the last 3 months and has never seen Grizz again - not even on Track. But my Druid would never kill a treant (or wolf or bear for that matter).

Killing wolfs, bears, lions and other animals does not matter for a druid nor a ranger. These animals give no faction. so kill away if you need xp.

been looking for this guy for a week now, no leads, shout if someone can track, and no one answers, if anyone know how to make him spawn, post it. he can't be on a 24hr spawn rate.
not especially when people have seen him more than two times.

LOL - was working the spires this evening when someone trained him right into me - some highelf caster - don't know why he was messing with him. I was a 31 SK (32 now) and at 80% mana and HP I carved this guy a new one with very little effort. Elf said that he dropped bark - if I'd known how rare he was at the time would have looted it meself for a guildy or something.

How to find
# Nov 19 2001 at 5:03 PM Rating: Default
I am only a 24 shaman, but i was with my guild leader, 52 shaman and a 35 ranger. He doesnt spawn in any particular spot so if your thinking about hanging out by treants dont. We wandered ran around the zone for 2 and a half hours covering every inch with the ranger constantly tracking him, finally got him not far from bridge. You need a higher level ranger with you and you should just run around the zone, he dropped the bark and cloak of leaves.

HI Guys,
Ive been camping SK for this loser for almost 3 weeks now. Ive killed pretty much everything in the treant-centaur-zombie area and no luck. Ive killed the wandering treant no luck, as well as the AC with friends. Ive heard that Grizz is on a 24 spawn rate, but that info is unfounded. I know the BP isnt worth it stats-wise, but Ive put in a lot of time and effort into getting ALL the other totemic armor pieces, and it kinda sucks not to have the Breastplate. So here's the question. DOES anyone have any clue who the PH is? I know noone really wants to post a spoiler, but it really pisses me off when lvl 50 guys just TP into the zone, make him pop, kill him, and then gloat to the whole zone that they killed Grizzy, when ive been practically begging and offering money to the whole zone for help to get this guy. Im pretty frustrated at this point and would like some help if anyone would be kind enough. Thanks

I hope this helps in some way...

Years ago, I played on a blue server and played a dark race. At the early-20s levels of my dark, I hunted treants in SK. The treants at that time were the most sought after spawn in the game at the lower levels because of the great coin they dropped(mind you, this was years ago), and their quick spawn rate. There was ALWAYS a waiting list. In the time that I leveled there, I saw Grizzleknot more times than I could count. In fact, I saw him so much, I assumed he was a common spawn. Since I played a Warrior, I never saw the need to hunt/loot him, but had pulled him for the treant group on many occasions for any Shaman in our group.

Now to my point: I eventually moved to a PvP server. Upon arriving on a PvP server, I noticed that camps weren't the same as on blues. One thing was that the treants were rarely camped. In fact, SK was mostly a war zone since it was situated as close to light territory as dark. Everything else in the zone was camped, but not treants. On PvP, I eventually made a Shaman, and when I went to camp Grizzleknot, no deal. I'm talking NEVER. I never wanted to kill treants cause I like to port with my Druid friend, so I can't verify my suspicions, but I'm just assuming the spawn is treant related...whether it's the camp or the treant that roams. I spent a lot of time camping this guy and NOTHING. Since Kunark, Velious and Luclin there are even less people in the zone, and the treants are an even less desirable camp, so I eventually gave up and looked for another Shaman BP to satisfy me.

Good luck. Hope you find the key to this SoB.

Good luck, I am barb shaman 32, and I look for Grizzelknot since July, with no luck. A friend told me that she saw it one day I wasn't on line.
If I see him I shall post you the loc.
