I was standing at -515, 1556, -7.94 b/c I saw Timbur the Tiny walk to this point.

I had been killing every mob but griffon types b/c another player was only hunting those. Timbur walked south, and shortly later they killed him.

Grimtooth appeared on my track not long after, east of the gypsy camp. I tracked him down, and it was 3 AM. I followed him SE, past the druid rings. He stopped at -2654, -1647, -7.94.

He then turned and went NNW to -1463, -1272, -7.94. He stopped, facing NNW.

He then turned and went WSW. I checked game time and it was 5 AM, so to avoid the risk of him de-spawning at 6AM ( I don't know if he would have but he is a werewolf) I killed him.

If he spawns again I'll track him.

Time to dispel some rumors on this one...

For starters, Korvik the Cursed and Grimtooth are on the same spawn cycle. Actually makes sense since Korvik is "cursed" and both him and Grimtooth drop Iron Shackles. They're the same being!

This cycle seems a lot simpler than the comments make it out to be. The respawn shows up on track after around 4 minutes and 51 seconds. I've seen it suggested in various places that Grimtooth despawns at certain times. I tested this. I left him up for over an entire EQ day (almost 1.5 days) without him aggroing anything, and he never despawned. For any past cases noted, my guess is he would simply find something to kill him. I had everything noteworthy (>115 creatures) gathered up to prevent such a thing from happening. One thing to note: he doesn't like guards nor Zahal the Vile (Regis is okay with him though).

While watching the spawns, I noticed Korvik always spawned during the day and Grimtooth always spawned during the night. The earliest I had Korvik spawn was 9 AM. The latest I had Korvik spawn was 6 PM. The earliest I had Grimtooth spawn was 12 AM. The latest I had Grimtooth spawn was 5 AM. My theory is Korvik is a day spawn and Grimtooth is a night spawn.

And here's what the spawn cycle looked like for me:
  • Grimtooth x4
  • Korvik the Cursed x3
  • a borer beetle x6
  • a griffawn x6
  • a griffon x1
  • a grizzly bear x6
  • a lion x6
  • a lioness x9
  • a pincer beetle x8
  • a scythe beetle x8
  • a silvermist wolf x6
  • a willowisp x3
That puts the two combined spawning at ~10% of the time. One jerkin dropped. The rest was all shackles from both of them.

Hopefully this makes both of these rare creatures a little easier to find for the future hunters out there.

Thanks much for the information!

I would like to understand the meaning of the "spawn cycle" with the mob counts you noted.

Do you start by killing one mob then waiting 4 minute 51 second for its respawn? And then keep doing this over and over keeping a tally of how much and which type of mob spawns?

Yes, that is what I did.

When I was working on identifying placeholders for the named in this zone, I would clear the zone until a named spawned, and then I would gather up all the other mobs in the zone to hold them down with a second character. I used two bards since it made it simple: one to run around with track and bard speed and a second to hold all the other mobs. The bard that held the mobs would sit on a mount to avoid push while continuously pulsing an AE song to maintain aggro on the pile so they didn't drop after a period of inactivity.

Once I had all the other mobs in the zone gathered up, I was free to kill the named and know that nothing in the zone was going to kill each other nor was anything additional going to spawn. I then just killed the named or its PH over and over and knew whatever appeared at the top of track would always be what I was looking for. It let me confirm the respawn time and the NPCs on its spawn table. Those are the mobs listed. It's possible there are others that didn't appear, but those were the ones I found at the time.

After months of farming and having boxes at all the projected spawn locations he spawned for me at -667, -1010, -11.25. Just east of the Gypsy Camp and east of Ashenpaw (hunter) on Brewall's maps. He hadnt started roaming yet and just stood there.

He spawned at about 9pm.

He spwaned at 11:00 PM, Approximate loc was -275.65, 1244.64, -6.35, not far from where the above picture was taken.
I got to him with in 10 seconds after he popped on track. He was already on the move, heading east towards the northern of the two parallel roads leading to the merchants.
I was making a wide circle around the hill with the tower on it, killin everything.
Grimfeather was not up. Just wondering if you get one or the other. But at least now we know he doesn't just spwan at 4:00 am down by the spire.

A friend and I were trying to get anything to spawn for hunters. During the night hours, She had went ahead and started to kill all the undead in the zone. At the same time, I was killing lioness. And poof, there he was.

This may be how he spawns, But I have some other thoughts as well, I believe that there is a spawn cycle similar to Lesser Faydark, where you kill one, kill some more mobs on the carpet, then later on a different name spawns or the same one spawns.

I also noticed that there are spawn cycles for hill giants and The Silver Griffon. These may be place holders as well, But I am not 100% sure on that.

Contrary to popular belief, he actually does spawn during the day as I killed him in broad daylight. I got the Jerkin off him but have no idea how much it costs...

I can confirm this. Spawned today on my track and I was only one in zone (and had been for some time). Pure daylight and 10am game time. Dropped the shackles.

You sure he just didn't despawn. If someone attacked him at sunrise and failed then he might hang around.

I can confirm that this is actually in no way related to the hero bracer quest and that grimtooth is not and is in no way related to the 'other escapee' which is actually the minotaur hero in steamfront mnts. Since I do not know anything about a quest with these shackles from grimtooth, i will not pretend to know anything else about it...
The werewolf talon is for the warrior crafted bp...I dont understand who 'refered' to it, however.

Umm if you re referring to the Werewolf Talon, that drops in Mistmoore of a Gypsy that turns into a werewolf at night, but the day time one drops it too.

I saw him spawn just by the gypsy camp, a few meters away from Mrysila. I killed him and he dropped the Jerkin. Think he only spawns at night. Good luck to you all werewolf-hunters out there...

I'm sure I've spent several real life days in North Karana, and today was the first time I ever saw or heard of Grimtooth (one wonders if he's related to Grimfeather somehow). I only got the iron shackle, and since I couldn't find anything on the net about what I should do with it, I decided it was most logical to give it to Fixxin Followig, since he goes on about hunting werewolves when you talk to him (he doesn't actually seem to specify a quest, though). In any case, when I gave the shackle to him, he just said "Whatever". Oh well. Maybe in a few months, I'll find Grimtooth again and can try my next theory regarding the shackle. One more thing: I did notice that Grimtooth spawned right after Korvic the Cursed died, which is another MOB I hadn't seen before.

I would like to know his spawn rate and place if anyone has a clue. And also, I'd like to know for all werewolves where and when the spawns are, I really want to kill one.
Any quests?

i killed Grimtooth today, and got the shackles. they suck, so i was hoping they were part of a quest. i cant find any info about this, so if you know about a quest involving the shackles, plz share it.
