Overview of Soloing Beastmen Pets

Black mages, blue mages and summoners are among the jobs that can rake in decent exp/hour by soloing beastmen pets. These pets -- ranging from bats to bunnies to elementals -- follow around all types of beastmen throughout Vana'diel.

Beastmen pets yield good exp/hour for three reasons:

1. The pets check as the same level as their masters. A "very tough" goblin pathfinder will summon a "very tough" rabbit. So killing the pet gives you a high amount of exp/kill.

2. Beastmen pets have low hit points. Black mages can often one-shot pets with a single casting of Ancient Magic.

3. Once a pet is killed, its master usually spawns a new pet within one minute. Achieving chain 5 solo is not difficult in some cases.

The Basics of Soloing Pets

All soloing camps are different, and different camps call for different safety measures for soloing to be successful. However, there are some basic rules to soling beastmen pets:

1. Choose a camp where you won't catch agro from wandering monsters.

2. Start your attack on the mob with a heavy spike-damage move. Often these take the longest to perform, so it's best to do at the start, while the pet isn't chasing you.

3. MAKE SURE THE PET IS BEHIND ITS MASTER, AND MAKE SURE THE MASTER IS FACING AWAY FROM ITS PET. Otherwise, both the pet and master will attack you. This can be decieving, because sometimes the pet appears to be behind its master, but in reality it's either slightly in front of or alongside its master.

4. If the pet doesn't die from your first attack, either finish it off with another spell/attack, or stun, bind or sleep it, depending on what abilities are available to your job. Then, finish it off.

5. Rest to full health, rinse and repeat.

How to Find a Camp for Soloing Pets

This guide, Salacia's Detailed Solo Guide - Lv. 19-70, is perhaps the most well-known soloing guide for pets known to Vana'diel. Although it's intended for black mages, it can be used for all different jobs.
