Butchering (WAR Profession)

A Narthain lion carcass, ready to be butchered.
Butchering
Trainers

This is a gathering skill. Players can learn this skill from trainers throughout the world. There is a Butchering trainer in every chapter 2 location.

Butchering allows players to extract resources from non-sentient monsters throughout the world.

Non-Sentient is a fancy way of saying dumb monsters.

The kind of stuff you can get is meat, bones, blood, leather, fleas, etc. Most butchered items are Apothecary ingredients.

When a butcher clicks on the corpse of a non-sentient monster, there's a short timer, and then the butcher gets some additional loot.

To butcher a dead monster, that monster must be already completely looted.

You can tell which monsters can be butchered because they have flies buzzing around them.

If you are a butcher and you mouse over a dead monster that can be butchered, your mouse pointer will change to a cleaver and the monster's tool tip will say "butcherable."

Butchering looting rights are initially owned by the player or group that killed the monster. After a while, the looting rights open up to any butcher.

When you first learn the skill, you will be able to butcher dead monsters up to level 5. As your skill increases, you'll be able to butcher high-level dead monsters.

Note to be tested: Your level in Butchering is only the quality of the items you receive from Butchering, not the level of monster able to be Butchered. To gain Skill points, you have to Butcher things within your level range, meaning they have to be at least green to you. Unsure about things above your level yet.
