Hodgepodge Dev Q & A - October 31, 2005

Developers address some random issues in the Halfling Hodgepodge Q & A (as on EQLive): ========================================== Why do master's level augs require crushed diamond dust to make the water? Because a Mistake was made! Purescale ore for the GM augs is much, much, much more common. Can you change the required component to something more in line like blue diamonds? Or add a recipe for making crushed diamond dust? Making it an item that shares drop tables with all the other velious gems doesn't seem to make much sense. We are currently looking into this and the cultural drops in general. There is no ETA at this time. Is there any plans to adding fixed tradeskill containers for tailoring (cultural etc), Jewel craft and spell research along with a mixing bowl somewhere in PoK or somewhere in the new expansion where it starts to exist, so Tradeskillers don't have to have all the many different containers to do their combines in? We currently have no art assets for this. It's not outside the realm of possibility, but there are no plans to do this currently. If you cannot add stationery containers can you at lease change them all to be 10 slots and allow giant things to go in them? No. While we understand that it is “inconvenient” it does not make any sense for a BOWL to hold 10 giant items… nor a mortar and pestle, or many of the other tradeskill items. Yes many things do not make sense… but we are not going back and changing them, we just do not want to make the same mistake again. When are you going to address the at range stun agro for paladins? Paladins are getting a bit of a boost to their stun aggro at the high end with the next patch. The issues with paladin aggro were primarily at the high end, so we've increase the hate generation on the stuns above level 65 to compensate. I have read that shrouded toons aren't intended to get armor/weapons as they should be tuned with those things already in mind. If that is the case, and understanding that their original/main intent is to allow grouping with lower levels, do they represent a certain baseline and what was that baseline tuned to as far as progression? In other words, if a level 70 (pick class) shrouds down to X should the hp/AC/DPS/mana etc represent what the devs think a (raiding | non-raiding | best baz geared | mid range baz geared) lvl X (pick class) looks like? The shrouds are aimed at being a bit less powerful then your average level X character based on player data collected from live servers. They aren't meant to be an indication of what the dev team feels a certain level character should be. They're meant to be a decent substitute in a pinch, but should never be a better choice then a similar level main character. Are there new rogue poisons using the master sketch or a continuation of that quest in the works? There was a minor correction to some of the ones that used it. The names in the container’s list were wrong, though the recipes worked. Currently there are no new recipes, and none currently planned. Currently, buyer mode in the bazaar only allows you to buy a single item in exchange for some combination of cash and zero or more items. Would it be possible to add an option to buy multiple items in exchange for compensation? Possible? Maybe. I wouldn't look for it soon, though, as it would require a pretty in depth overhaul of the system, as well as a more complex UI. Can buy/done buttons on merchant window be swapped? The Done button was placed where it is (and used to be) based on user feedback from when the new merchant window was put in. The lower right corner is "where done buttons go", and where it used to be before it was removed in the first place. Players will get used to it again. As to why the buy button was placed all the way on the other side, that was so people with "laggy mice" wouldn't accidentally hit Buy instead of Done. Are there any plans to bring back the raid-level version of Mistmore, be it through instancing, a chardok a / chardok b situation with both zones up at the same time, or through a temporary event, such as reverting it back for several weeks in conjunction with the fabled aniversary happenings? Mistmoore was reverted to its previous state largely because very few players were using the new form. For the same reason, we don't currently have plans to reinstate that content although it is something we may look at again in the future. Is there an ETA on when pets will once again recive the AC Stats and Hit Points from the gear given to the pet? This was fixed in the last update on October 27th. Is there any plans to do anything about the Cleric AC cap? The return on AC over the cap was increased for clerics levels 50+ in the October 12th update. What is the status on fixing the PoTime instancing bug that is affected a ton of people? We diligently tried to reproduce this problem with no luck and even followed some cooperative guilds while they ventured through the Plane of Time with no issue. Finally we did see the problem occur and it was fixed in the October 27th update. Cheers for making ranged items stackable to 100! Aany possibility that bandages might receive the same treatment? Right now there is no intent to increase the stacking for other items.

Mistymoore WAS used more as high lvl zone....
# Nov 01 2005 at 2:10 PM Rating: Default
Mistymoor was never used as a low end zone, the pathing since the day i satrted EQ some 5 years ago made it almost imposable. Sure 'high end' players loved to farm the place, but why were MM and SP changed? No one used em, pathing sucked and reward vs. reward werent there, and unless u HAD to go for quest or twinking alt... As for the high end zone, my guild hit Fadesong every time we had low turn out or just some extra time. As for loot, that shirt she dropped was by FAR the nicest 'robe' class item u didnt have to flag an intire guild to get near, and melee stuff was Time + quality.
I find it sad SOE only seems to care about eye candy for Ebay players and has totaly given up on those for us who have been playing all these years......

I disagree. First of all, there isn't much to "farm" there nor to twink with. And I was always a big fan of this zone. Since it's return to it's original state I have seen several people come in thrilled to be able to level up their low level alts or to bring a new friend over who'd never played there. Personally, I headed over as soon as I hit 20 with my shaman and didn't leave till I was 30. Yes, the pathing is still quirky, but no worse than many dungeons. The experience is still pretty great and the loot is pretty decent as well, considering there's quite a bit of fine steel and coinage.

I never went there while it was the high level raiding zone, but from what I've heard and read once the novelty wore off people stopped going there.

This reminds me of the old adage, "You can't make everyone happy."

I also enjoyed this zone in my mid 20's. It was one of my favorite zones in my 20's. I also believe there are not enough enjoyable zones at those levels. I was very happy when it was switched back, now my alts are going there. My main is 64 and there is plenty of high level content. I hope it's left as it is.

Well how about actually dropping items that we can use Shrouded? I have yet to see anything drop that is able to upgrade the Shrouded toons. Playing Shrouded is fun, but you have to play a toon a few levels past the normal xp level to compensate for the gear.

And the "God missions" in Kith ... suck to a point. Why would a god only have 2 Abilites ("AAs") and why would they suck so bad? It's a good thing you do not lose regular xp or I would be a level 69 character by now with all of the deaths in there. Having the God of healing have one craptastic heal and a craptastic HP buff, and having you go OOM after 3 or so heals sucks. Not to mention that you take 5 minutes just to regen it back.

i think thats good the way it is, why are metallic drake scales used to make the augs? GM is high trivial, tough to get scales, so should be tough on the water too, only makes sense...

again makes sense, is fine the way it is, people who complain are cheeep greedy people, or just too damn lazy to go fight for some, its not like you need 10 only 1....

no one uses mistmoore anyways the regular zone muich, what about paw no one uses that zone just as much as mistmoore or less paw was much more tougher then mistmoore so why not revert that one no one ever goes to paw....

The diamond dust is used for the Master, not GM ones. It is too rare for the master section. Purescale Ore is used for the GM water ... please be sure of what you're posting before you complian about greedy folks,

"fixed" pet gear...
# Nov 01 2005 at 7:47 AM Rating: Decent
as far as "fixing" pet gear? no, not entirely....i tested by using elemental simulcram both before and after equipping crystal belt and 2 burning shanks (a total of 850 HP from all three) the difference in HP was 3% on a 67 water...if 850HP really represented 3% of a 67 water pets health he would have over 28k (yes, 28000) HP. if that was the case my pet would be ruler of all norrath. unfortunately for me (and luckily for you) this is not the case, however much i would like it to be =P. so instead of blowing smoke up our ****** how about ACTUALLY fixing the pet gear please ... or i will sick my 35k HP earth pet upon you! /pet attack SOE
RE:
# Nov 01 2005 at 10:07 AM Rating: Default
theres no real way to check this but to have someone fight your pet, itll give your pet 850 and heal it for so much just like aplly LoH dont fully heal a paladin if he has big buffs on....
?? o.0
# Nov 04 2005 at 6:04 PM Rating: Decent
how can you figure theres no way to test it? my pet has a set number of HPs based on level of spell and foci applied. if i use a spell to take and exact number of hp from him time after time, and the gear i give him gives him the exact same increase in hp time after time, then its a sound test...there are no variables. all the info is out there to make the calculations, and the test comes up with the same result each time.
RE:
# Nov 01 2005 at 10:32 AM Rating: Decent
How about making it so we can click pet buffs off like they said they planned to do? That would be a nice hting to have too.

How about
# Oct 31 2005 at 10:04 PM Rating: Decent
(1) LDoN zones for solo players
(2) Allow both Buyer/Seller mode simultaneously
(3) Doing something to end all the PLing going on (Its getting to where a level 50 cannot freakin get experience b/c of all the uber guilds powerlevelling their alts in low level zones.)
RE: How about
# Nov 15 2005 at 7:32 PM Rating: Decent
I would rather see ldon zones revised to their present entrances as regualar dungeons. Just set the tasks in each adv. camp as solo, group and base the time frame off of that. This would allow you to get ldon points if they interested you. If you didn't want ldon points you could still go to the place.

Make one of each theme high level and stagger the rest (so for example, mistmoore crypt is level 15-25 dungeon and the pit is 60-70). Disperse the loots reasonably the to difficulty in a manner that prevents a single spawn being permacamped. Maybe you even level restrict the lower level themes... make xp nice but no high level babysitters.

They could even cheat and mesh the 7 (or whatever it was) variations of each map together to create the "new" zone). This approach respects the lore and basic idea of LDON with the exception of the instancing format that now makes this content very empty of players.

It also makes the LDON gear accessable to the casual lowbie (not newbie) in a fun way. With effort (to complete tasks to get points) the LDON merchant items could really help these kinds of players. For that reason alone, why not?

1. Hell, make the xp in them worth while and people might go back and play them. They made the item for the Shaman snare potions available only in LDoN zones yet going there at 70 to help a guildy farm them yields craptastic xp!

2. HELL YEAH, I wish they would do this!
Mistmoore returned, but what about Splitpaw?
# Oct 31 2005 at 8:29 PM Rating: Decent
alright....so...lemme get this straight, they switched mistmoore back to the old way. We loose the raid mobs and more difficult kills, instead we get the greenies to AE to death for VP faction. Fine. People weren't using the zone with the new content. Fine. But I see no mention of Splitpaw being returned to it's original way. Are people actually using Splitpaw as it is now? Do people raid Splitpaw? Is anyone xping there now? If not, I wonder why they haven't switched splitpaw back as well.
RE: Mistmoore returned, but what about Splitpaw?

Oh Please. Do you honestly think MM was put back because
Quote:
very few players were using the new form

Not likely. They changed it back becuase that zone never worked right. To revamp an old zone and leave the horrendous pathing issues that have always exsisted there was irresponsible of the dev team. They reverted it and not Splitpaw because they're tired of /petitions about pathing there. That whole revamp was a fiasco IMO.

We raided Mistmoore a LOT on Drinal. Very nice drops there. I wish they'd switch it back to the raid version =/. The low levels that use the old Mistmoore are always being PLed so it's not like the old version is needed...

I was noticing with a patch several weeks ago, when i go to purchase a spell, I have to manually put the quantity to 1. Its not like I want or need to have 20 copies of every spell. Shouldn't the quantity be set at 1 by default?

More proof they'll never please everybody. They put in new spell research, make spells stackable (before it you had 5 copies of HoV, you took 5 inventory slots. The reason it asks you now, is that like EVERY OTHER STACKABLE ITEM, spells stack in inventory.

Just Press ctrl and click buy, you'll only get 1 item, same as clicking on a stack and having ctrl pressed, you'll only pick up 1 item then too.
