SOE Maintenance: Monday April 23

Logins for all SOE games will be down for 24 hours.

UPDATE, 3pm PDT: EQ and EQ2 servers are confirmed up! However, expect to see a lot of "Login Rejected" while zoning, but you should be able to immediately log back in.

UPDATE, 3:25pm PDT: EQ2 EU servers are reported to be giving a "fatal error" when attempting to login.

NOTE: This information has changed multiple times since originally published. This is the official maintenance notice as of late Sunday evening:

It would seem that the "if you stay logged in you're fine" turned out to be false. Came down to check and i was disconnected.

Did anyone manage to stay in game?

Just before midnight, the statement was that they were going down for "brief" maintenance. Which proceeded the 24 hour login server shutdown. So the login servers go down, then they boot everyone for a brief update - preventing anyone from staying logged in. I was furious.

I heard the new server farm SoE moved to a while back with the last 24 hour down time was too HOT. They were reported to have portable AC units and fans on the servers to keep them cool. Well this move is so the servers can be place in an area that has the proper AC and will fix the down time problems they have been having.

Now if someone official would have just said it was this then lots of people would have understood and not have given SoE such a hard time. Yes they should have know better to under cool the servers but it might not have been there fault and a contractor to blame. So I for one look forward to better server up time.

As someone who has worked in a data center, I definitely would have given them hell if this were the case. If a data center has improper cooling then they have disasters just waiting to happen. It's not rocket science. You check your stats to see where you have capacity in the data center (which can be complex if you have no documentation or proper processes), you put the servers in and make sure the airflow comes from the cold row and blows to the hot row.

While I'm not one to give in to rumors and speculation, it would be nice to know from SOE if this is indeed the case. At least then it would be understandable, as long as we're compensated for the loss of playtime. I'm a returning player from way back in 2006 (just reactivated my sub on April 8th), and I'm very quickly being reminded of all the reasons I left the game in the first place. I love the game, but I despise the company behind it. When SOE repeatedly fails properly communicate with us, it makes it extremely difficult for me to want to keep my subscription active. Yes, they gave us plenty of warning. But why are the servers down for an entire day? And it isn't just EQ2 that's down, it's all of their games and services, apparently. So what on earth are they doing? Doesn't that merit at least somewhat of an official explanation so that their paying customers (us) aren't left completely in the dark? Does customer relations mean nothing to them? Do they even know what it is, or care about it to begin with?

I cannot say if that server overheating thing is true, but the fact that all Sony services are down for "maint" might also be linked to the security incursions that keep happening (most recently the PSP Vita hack). Perhaps they are making major (and badly needed) system upgrades to their gatekeeping/authentication ********

As for server locations overheating, that would be bad planning on someone's part.

As of this moment (nearly 9am Pacific) the EQ forums are unavailable, so for now they aren't even read-only.

"Players who are already logged into game will be able to continue to play. However, if you log out you will be unable to log back in."

I think I've seen this each time they do maintenance. Not sure why they put that in there since every time I've stayed logged in, I've come back to an error run time message. Really....stop putting that there since it is untrue. I think what most people want is the truth and no smoke blown up their ******

Guess I'll get some home maintenance done today

I'd love to see if they can get at least a few of the Bruiser issues fixed tomorrow. Like not getting quest rewards. And equipment being bugged ( boots are horribly bugged atm, knock off passive focus buffs and also block other buffs from being cast on you ) and I'm sure theres more with the discos from the new raids I havent even equipped yet......
wow

I wonder what SOE is fixing...I haven't seen a 24 hour downtime since back about 4-5 years ago..but then again I stopped playing for a while.

Has to be something major that they are doing to bring down everything for this long.

This game up.... game down rollercoaster is getting out of hand and we are not be compensated for our loss of gametime. I cannot understand the lack of information that should be provided to us in explanation of these down times. As "PAYING" customer's we should be informed why the game was down. But I assure you that the billing cycle won't be effected in any way, fashion or form. Been here 10 years and have 3 accounts, a new expansion comes out we buy it. BUT may I say that the person off the street buys the game he gets all the expansions to include the new release for the same darn price I paid for 1 expansion. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the customer that has a valid subscription are loosing their *** evertime a new release hits the streets. We need some LUV, or SOE is going to find a game of nothing but free to player's!

why do people constantly make blanket threats? no one who really values the game is going silver. You lose too much by doing so. So there is down time for maintenance. That's nothing new and if they didn't lose your subscription after the hacking, why should they worry about it now? Personally i would never go silver on any of my 5 accounts. No one speaks for the whole of the subscription base and no they won't find a bunch of ftp no matter what. They would have to really do something unforgivable to lose my subscriptions and i haven't seen that happen yet. Yeah info would be nice but i can assure you that is a rare thing in the world of gaming. So far EQ beats all games hands- down and so does SOE's PR and the way they handle complaints. if you want more from a gaming company you will have to build one yourself. Meanwhile, i will do my own computer maintenance and then go play guild wars until tomorrow.

I wasnt making Blanket threats and at no point did I say i was turning my accounts to silver.... Your perception in reading and reality is off a bit. I was merely stating my opinion. Build an outhouse and go there... cause you seem to be full of it. To each his own post.... If I were to leave the game 11 years of enjoyment would fly out the window. I have many friends in game..... seems You may need one. Have a nice day!

Your post is your opinion just try and sort things accordingly . get the facts and read the real story.

If you pay the full amount 1 day of EQ is 50 cents...

Does it matter? It's still 24 hours of purchased game time that we're not receiving. So let's turn the tables around. It's only 50 cents. What's it to SOE to simply credit our accounts with a free day to compensate? Never mind the fact that it doesn't actually cost them 50 cents per account to add a +1 day credit. That's just what we pay for it, assuming we pay $15/month.

What do you mean, "all" these 24 maintenance days? This is the first one I can remember in a long time,

Back in the olde days we calculated one's EQ subscription at 2 cents per hour, assuming one played 24/7. :)
