At the following time, we performed a version update of FINAL FANTASY XI. *The client software was also updated at this time. The client update will start automatically after logging back into FINAL FANTASY XI. Please follow the instructions that appear on your screen. Thank you for your patience. [Affected Period] Apr. 26, 2005 20:00 (PST) *Maintenance completion time may be subject to change. [Affected Services] FINAL FANTASY XI [Important Update Details] The following issues were addressed and have been fixed: - An issue wherein the gamma setting would be reset to default after certain event scenes in the Grand Palace of Hu'Xzoi or the Garden of Ru'hmet. - An issue wherein characters would not turn translucent while under the effect of "Invisible," "Tonko," etc. within the Grand Palace of Hu'Xzoi or The Garden of Ru'hmet. - An issue wherein certain types of fish would fail to respond while biting the lure of specific fishing poles. ------------------------------------------------------------

My friend is quitting the game because of this POL downtime...I wouldn't do it myself but...I don't blame him...
We are paying for this game, and we are not getting it, it may be DDoS attacks causing this, but Square-Enix should ATLEAST give players a free month's play because of this downtime. I get the impression that Square is blaming us (the players) for this, and thus we recieve no compensation.

Look, Im sure SE is doing everything they can to fix the problems, but after 2 weeks of this crap, SE needs to step up to the plate and compensate people for lost time.

Regardless if you should have a life outside the game, you pay money each month to play a game at your convenience, not theirs. Granted its not their fault, but neither is it ours and we deserve compensation for it, plain and simple.

If anything, just shut all of the damn servers down so they can simply focus on the attacks/attackers. Less power towards maintaining mediocre servers/service and more power directed at the cause of the mediocrity.

I'd rather see a message from SE saying severs are down for X-amount of time for servicing and repair rather than this up and down yo-yoing BS. Its getting tedious and annoying at best.

I don't like to say people are 'wrong' as such, but this IS at their convenience, out money is going to them RIGHT NOW, for a service they cannot provide. We are the customer, and the customer is always right, that's the way it goes, it is SQUARE'S responsibility for our monetary loss.

Well... What can we do? Its 6.30pm here GMT and I've got a bad feeling i wont get on today >.<;; Its a bit annoying that they cant give a finish time but if they are going to resolve some serious issues then i guess it will be worth the wait! if they deal with the gill sellers then it'll be Happy Days!

When did they do an update? I went to bed at 7:00 my time yesterday.. they did an update 3 hours later.. now when i use POL plus, only 2 of my umpteen million friends are on, which is strange.. meaning, i can't log in! why! i want a discount. this isnt fair. This is the third or fourth time in the last 2 weeks that this has happened. not to mention whenever you try to call to find out whats going on, all you get is a busy signal. the webchat thing is a JOKE! /sigh.. time to find something to do

I'm with you on this one. Its not like its a free game we could play. If it goes down, ok, you may be a little frustrated but your out nothing. Not like FF is expensive. But what in the hell is SE doing with all this money they are making. I can tell it isnt going to well qualified security managers. Even though its not much I think they should take the forced downtime out of the monthly price. Ok, i've vented enough now time to attempt another logon.

My thought is that this is a game we pay to play, not a game we pay to get to the login and see pol error, I can sympathize with them on the aspect of this is their business and by God they will get their money. however if you go shopping and buy a shirt with the intention of wearing it then you get home and the sleeve falls off because some punk went through the store and cut the stitches. You would be able to take it back and get a new shirt or your money back. This analogy also applies to SE, it is not necessarily their fault some hacker punk is messing up their system, but it is still their service they are selling to the population on the principal that it is going to work. Reply please curious on other's thoughts thank you for your time

Although I see your point the thing is when you buy a shirt from the store you don't expect the sleeves to fall off, you don't expect to have to re-stitch every so often or add pockets later on. The thing is with online games is that things like this are expected - you know there's going to be updates, you know there's going to be server problems now and then, and with such a big thing its no surprise that there's some little **** trying to hack it either. With regards to recent comments about SE's security - someone show me a fully hacker proof program that works 100% or a server that can run without any problems! End of the day yeah it's frustrating but it's not the end of the world - find something else to do!

Okay, I can't log in either, but well that's life. SE has problems that need to be resolved and they are trying to fix those problems. What do you do if your car breaks down and it will take 1-2weeks to get it fixed?

<Hmmm.> Rent another, most likely. So find something else to do, try and try again later. I knew someone that Played EQ and like Urick siad; they could not long in for days. At least it is only a few hours with FFXI. Anyway, life calls for me, later.

Where is this posted from? On the playonline website I can find the an exact copy of this post, but with the date stamp as the 25th of April, not the 26th. Isn't this from yesterday. In fact I downloaded 5 files yesterday, which I am sure correspond to this post.

Yes, I was really pissed when I was not able to login today again. After a full day of work, I just like to have a nice evening and play a bit FF. Reading the your comments here made me feel a bit better though, because there seem to be good reasons.
But still, I think SE would do themselves a big favour, if they'd post a few lines about the reasons. Don't tell me they do not have time for that, I think one of them should have 2 free minutes to do that.
This would reduce the amount of mad calls, angry e-mails etc. alot I think.
And btw, I like the idea of making the really expensive items Rare/Ex (unless they are only gained from BCNM-Fights) with one exception: I still wanna have my 2 Astrals lol.

Ofcourse they're trying their best to sort these problems out, but they aren't exactly giving us enough information on the issue.
When I contacted a GM a few days ago because I couldn't update the damned game, all he said was:
"DDOS attacks this" "DDOS attacks that" .
Then I said:
"Is there a flaw with the update, too?"
And he said
"There is NO flaw with our updates."
He said that in like 2 seconds.
I was like O.O; "Okay.."

Anyhow, my point is:
SE should atleast give us a new really cool event after this has been sorted, or atleast compensation in game. =/
We're the ones who pay to PLAY the game, not to get mis-informed and annoyed at why the attacks are happening, etc.

the reason Playonline.com or any sites like this don't have info on ffxi situation is cos SE are too busy sorting out the major problems with hackers and server maintinence, so let them do their job, stop calling in, stop crying and ******** about how you cant get on cos your just like the thousands of others who cant... and do something else to pass the time until further notice.

I would normally that buy argument, if the game we were playing cost a mere 5 dollars a month perhaps. But just the fact that I'm left in the dark as to whats really going on, slightly concerns me. I have a few people online that I know need my help doing a few things, and would like to get on asap to help them. If SE happened to post on their website what the problem was and how long they believe it will take to fix, it would help me plan my day easier.

We are letting them do their job, but you must understand, part of their job is keeping up with their customer relations. I've actually been sitting, waiting for an online chat to start up with one of the representatives for about an hour.

There's nothing wrong with our desire to know why the game that we pay 12.95 (Or more for those with 50 mules) is down. If anything, it's common courtesy. I believe it's a courtesy that we deserve.

lmao - join the club. whenever i figure out a cpl of days i can get some serious **** done, carefully taking into considertion maintenance and other factors, something like this pops up. whats even worse is i just sit here trying to get on instead of doing something productive ><. oh well i spose there r worse addictions out there ^^

Maybe I'm blind and Im missing something, but where does it say when the estimated time of completion is going to be? All I see for a time stamp is "20:00 PST"... the service better not be down till 8pm today O.O

Anyway, it'd really help me out if someone could point out the time when they'll have FFXI back up. Thanks ^^

i hate to say it but i dont think we will be playing till 20:00 PST (23:00 EST(hope that helps)). i think that b/c thats the only time they mention when maintenance will be and i cant play now so mebee now to the estimated time of 20:00. thats just a hunch tho.

I was booted off staring at Shiva with only about a dozen health.

A lot of you people need to realize that this is the ONLY way to help the gilseller problem. No, they CANNOT do it while you are playing. You either have to wait it out or put up with the gilsellers/other crap that's been going on. No other options.

Im home sick today and i was hoping to finally catch up in FFXI. its 8 in the morning and i keep trying for half an hour to log in. ;; 2hours later i try again, still cant log in. i try to find the problem here. at least i have an idea WHY i cant log in. as long as Pol is trying to solve this situation the best we can do is hope that we can play tomorow cause i know i wont bother trying again. (this is my very first post =D)
