Hi, just wondering if anyone else experienced any odd things after logging back on from the three hour maintenance? I experienced the following: About 30 minutes before the maintenance, I removed a ring from my bazaar (a silver ring signed by a certain special someone) and equipped it, then I unequipped my boots, neck piece, one earring, and waist piece (if you think about it, I made it so the ring was isolated in the middle of an empty X... this was for aesthetic purposes while I waited for group in Jeuno). Anyway, we get kicked off... After 3.5 hours or whatever it was, we logged back on and after a few moments I noticed something odd: My silver ring was back in the bazaar and all my armor and such was back to its normal configuration... Anyone else experienced any other such odd glitches? I heard some people lost actual items from their inventory and that some others lost gil... True?
The stuff about people losing items and gil is bull crap. As for your problem, it's completely normal and had nothing to do with the maintenance, but rather the fact that you didn't log out properly. Try this: Log in, write up some crazy-*** macros, equip some stuff, put some stuff in your bazaar, go kill an easy prey and note the exp you have after you do so, go spend some gil, then alt+tab out or turn off your PS2. When you log back in, notice that the stuff in your bazaar has changed, the macros you wrote are gone, and your equipment is back to normal, but it saved the experience you earned and the amount of gil that you have. It's just the way that the server saves information. Obviously some of the less important info is stored upon logging out, while stuff like items in your inventory, gil, and experience are saved almost constantly to prevent something tragic from happening.

Interestingly enough, I purchased 2 items from the AH before the crash. About 30 seconds to 1 minute after the purchases. We dropped. When I was able to get back in I noticed I had no items and the gil was not there. The AH recorded the transactions. But I had nothing to show for it. On that note, I'm not terribly upset. I know stuff happens. But please, be aware that you do not know everyone's situation, nor do you know whether anyone has or has not lost anything do to the crash. As I said, I'm not upset about the gil. It's not a big deal. Just felt the need to Rebutt that particular quote.

Actually, these are not glitches at all but POL doing a recall. The do not save data up to the last time before you log. It's like when u reset your computer and set it on the settings you had last week. you do not lose anything just everything is like it was before a few hours before maintanance. I know this because I am a PLD and lost 3 divine skill when the servers were reset. So your not losinbg or gaining gil ur items just go back on AH and such so it's as if there not sold yet. Hope I could clarify that ^^

so...in essence you are saying its kinda like time travel, you can go back and do things differently if you like :)

lol sorry just recently watched a new independant film called "Primer" about time travel. kinda had the same premese. Two guys go back in time about 22 hours about every other day and play the stock market :-p wouldn't that be nice. (and yes just like any time travel movie about the middle of the movie the bouncing back and forth gets hazy and hard to follow)

but ingame there aren't two of yourself running around ******** things up, so its ok the world won't come to an end :)

I was in a party where a guy D/C after he got his LV up..and when he came back he was back to just before that, I /check 'ed him to be sure. So I think the game records the gil and XP at certain intervals. Another goodie: it remembered that he used his scroll so he still had the spell, but he got the scroll back for free 0.o

hahaha the good thing is that most players are like crack hungry sheep that complain whenever something doesn't go their way, but can't break away from the game due to addiction.

complain all you want. you'll still come back. so why complain at all i wonder?
Wow...

I can't believe how many people are complaining about this maintenence! Look guys... It was unexpected because it was EMERGENCY maintenence. If it's an emergency, it's not normally going to be expected.

Ya, but this was 3 days after the servers had been down for routine maintenance already (when the last patch was so horribly rolled out). Why did 1/3 of the worlds suddenly crash not even a week after their last maintenance period?

That was probably because you were already disconnected from the server when you did that and your R was going down (I did the same thing except browsed through the AH), so the server never recorded you doing anything because your connection was cut. So any action you did while your R was going down (~1min before being kicked) was not recorded and your character will be reverted to the last point recorded before your R went down.

Everything I did was around 30 minutes before the server kicked everyone off. I did nothing while the R was at 0... ^_^

What's with all of this talk about how "SE'd better do something before they lose a lot of people"? Does nobody here understand that that's what their maintenance and patches are? They're actions which are meant to please us. The masses appreciate this stuff. Most people don't want a glitchy game, and Promathia people are eager for more content. The patches and maintenance are being applied for reasons, not because SE just can't get their act together.

As for those people complaining about how "we used to know when there was going to be weekly maintenance, but we never know what to expect anymore", consider that a few hours of downtime every couple of months, even if it's out of the blue, would be considered by most to be better than a few hours at a set time every single week.

For those people complaining about how they can't wait for a period without all of these updates, check the patch history on the official FFXI site:

February 24th, 2 months ago.
December 9th, a month and a half earlier.
October 7th, 2 more months earlier.
September 14th, over a month and a half earlier.
June 29th, over 2 months earlier.
April 22nd, over 2 months earlier.
Need I go on?

Since October 2003, there have been patches averaging every two months. Even the patch before this one that you just downloaded was from two months earlier. Six patches per year shouldn't be too much to handle in exchange for an evolving, stable game.

So what if one day from your weekend's just been shot? How about some thanks to the people who gave you a game to base the previous 82 weekends on, and who plan on giving you more?

While I agree with most of your post, it is nice to know when maitenance will occur. While I realize that this maitenance was hardly expected by anyone - customers and SE included - it is very frustrating to be in the middle of something only to be disconnected for five hours suddenly.

Oh well. Once I realized it wasnt a problem on my end and there weren't ten other people in Rolanberry wondering why the hell I wasnt there to camp Simurgh all of a sudden, I was fine. Book time! lol

Btw... Amen. I liked your use of historical data to support your words. Thank you. A full day or 3-4 hour maintenance period every two months isn't bad at all.

Actually my guess is this has little to do with patch issues and more with server attacks.

Patch issues would bring down all the servers, where as this is just a selected portion.

Honestly, they need to address this now, especially with their welcome home program.

1) they are (read the anouncements once in a while befor ya login folks!)

2) that could be exactly WHY the attacks are going on - to keep people from changing their mind and "returning home"

well i dont think its that bad of a problem with them having emergancy maintanance for only 3* hours...
I remember when there was an approx 5-6 hour maintanance every tuesday back when i first started playing.

but it does suck because we have little warning now >.<
at least back then we knew to expect it on tuesday

Ok, lets do the math on that one. You pay around $13/month for this, and there are about 30*24=720 hours in a month. That comes out to about 1.8 cents per hour, and server was down for three hours.

Good luck getting your six cents back. :D

i think i'll instruct my bank to put an automated reply to SE whenever they apply for monthly payments.

"sorry this account is undergoing emergency maintenance and will be unable to pay you during the following times: now until then but the then time is subject to change so you might get paid"

thank you for your patience

It sounds funny but SE is kind of evil about that sort of thing (happened to me). There was an error with my bank when they tried to process my payment and I had some 400 dollars in the bank at the time. SE immediatly canceled all my Content IDs. It annoyed me that I had to manually activate all my IDs and reassociate my 1 Main and 4 mules to them but I didn't think much of it until the following month when I realized they had billed me twice for that month. Once to reactivate my IDs and Once for the month >.> SE baka >.<

Been logged in for 24 hours then got booted and kept getting error message FFXI-3203 Unable to connect to area server. S/E stingy as hell with the money you pay them for a service they are supposed to provide. Look im not looking for my money back just at least a pro-rated amount for the time im not able to log on, wtf you call they say no in the agreement. Thats extorion!!! eh "World of Worldcraft" im looking into that now!!!

Some of my friends play World of Warcraft, and although I personally have never played, they have problems getting on to their sever if there are too many people on(there is a waiting list to start playing) and if you are on for too long then it kicks you off so that the people on said wating list can get on!

At least I was at work, and not in a pt like my bf was. There should be some kind of compensation this time around...third time in a week I think, for some update or another. I know it's not their fault, and these things are to be "expected", but Customer Service really should chime in here with a Special of some kind; I'm sure SE doesn't own ALL the MMORPGs....

changed a word that couldv'e been "bad"
