It's kind of nice. They don't drag things out.
Yeah. Of course, in this case, they kinda had to. They were only a few days out of port, so he either had to take the ship back quickly, or not at all. I suppose they could have stretched that out in terms of numbers of episodes, but I'm guessing they actually want to advance the story in terms of Flint and the new ship in need of a lot more crew, and a bunch of gold sitting on beach. Sadly, this will probably also require a few episodes of Flint getting tangled up in Guthrie's mess. Last season they spent how many episodes just trying to get the ship equipped and ready to sail?
Oh. I did like the way Flint retook command though. That was actually really well done. Not just for the whole "takes experience and judgement to be a good captain" bit, but also the fact that Flint's reputation alone would have resulted in success where Dufrense failed (solely because he *wasn't* Flint). It made the crew's decision to take him back a lot more believable.

I do find the sudden shifts from current day Flint to past day Flint a bit abrupt at times. "Where are we? Oh, ok, there's Flint all fancied up. We're in a flashback now".
Were there flashbacks? Either I missed them, or forgot about them. I can't think of any so far.

I'm still not 100% sure who the "special cargo" is. Someone important, I gather. But I can't put a face to the Lord, or the woman's relation.
I think we'll find out in episode 3. At least the teaser suggests it. I'm also curious to see how Billy Bones manages to finagle his way out of his predicament (or even who's holding/torturing him). Should be a fun little surprise for someone.
