My Warlock is having a debate: boosts versus shield.

I like the idea of extra mobility but, from what I've heard at least, the boosts have a pretty decent failure rate. Anyone here PvP as a caster/ranged engineer? If so do you have a preference? I've been running with the shield until now, and have been relatively satisfied with it. But I also have a blueberry bubble for those situations...

Any thoughts?

The boosts fail at probably something like 5% or less; in using them for months on end since 4.0.1 (when they changed), they've failed a handful of times.

Nitro Boosts are by far the better option. Every time I PvPed on my hunter I wished I had boosts/parachute cloak. They're pretty irreplaceable for world PvP/BGs.

Ahhh awesome.

I'd read of people swearing off of them and raid leaders forbidding them so I thought I'd check. 5%-ish does sound like that range where you'd hate for half your 25 man to be using them on every pull.

Thanks, and rate ups and stuff. Smiley: thumbsup

Yeah, for PvE it's not worth the risk. But considering you can't use any belt tinkers in arena, Nitro Boosts are the way to go.

The benefits are pretty huge for locks, since you can combine it with a demon portal to clear snares and then nitro to get outside shadowstep and charge range. Boots failing isn't always catastophic anyway. You might get catapulted into the air, in which case you can dot people up safely while floating back down again. Rocket fuel leak will kill you, but it hardly ever happens.

Oddly, I have never had my Nitro Boost backfire me into the air in any battleground but Battle for Gilneas. I suspect that fail can only happen in certain “flying OK” areas, and the other BGs are flagged “flying not OK”--even though you can’t use a flying mount in BfG either.

I’ve gotten the fuel leak only twice in months of hard use. 1% rate at most.

Nah, my Alliance banker has smacked his head on the ceiling of the AH many times. Sometimes the Parachute will then deploy and you slide along sideways with it to the mailbox.

On my priest, since I PVE mostly, I traded in my Nitro Boosts for a Cardboard Assassin (to grab agro if I'm booking it from some adds). I keep Inner Fire up with the talent to boost it, so I have a constant 16% speed boost for PVE, instead of the boots.

Nah, I've gotten that one in every BG. It doesn't happen often, but it happens. Luckily as a rogue I could shadowstep to someone to prevent the (minimal because of Safe Fall) fall damage.

Rocket fuel leak can be cloaked also, it's like nitro was made for rogues!

Must be just a freak of chance, then. It’s happened to me in BfG a LOT, perhaps a dozen times. Two of those times it was lucky rather than unlucky, allowing me to escape a melee attacker, Levitate, and rain instant heals/shields/dispels down on my team.

Also, it’s happened to me in a raid, but never in a heroic. More strange luck, I'm sure.

When I would get a boot fail on my dk when I was unholy i could ams it for rp soaking.

Was kinda nice when people were attempting to kite me and all of a sudden I could death coil like a maniac.
