Someone explain armor to me...Follow

#1 Nov 10 2004 at 2:14 PM Rating: Decent
How do I know if i can eventually use/wear pieces. I have some light armor arm pieces but it says i'm not skilled enough to wear it. So when will I be and how? Do i magically get the skill at a certain level? Sorry for the probable noob question. Thanks for any feedback.

I had much the same question myself... I believe I've figured it out for the most part (although it still may be a bit inacurate.)

Let's take, for example, the Badger Pelt Bracers

These bracers are "Very Light Armor" with a required skill of 40 and a recommended of 70.

Open your main menu then your "Skills" menu. In that menu, you should see a skill for "Very Light Armor". The first number is what yours is, and the second is what the possible is for your level. As far as I know, for armour, those numbers will always be the same. The two numbers you want to compare is the first number in the skills menu (let's say yours is 46/46, so you'd take the first number there; 46) and compare it with the required skill of the armour; 40.

Since your number is higher than the required skill number, then you can equip the armour, although it won't be at full power till your skill reaches 70.

Anyone want to back me up on this? Smiley: smile

very interesting concept.. I haven't installed EQ2 yet but once I get the chance to I'll have to investigate this.

what about say light armor. I done that quest for the item you shown but instead I picked the one for light and not very light. However I look at my skills and don't even see light armour as a skill. Is this something I'll get at a certain level?

Yeah, basically it's kind of like level limitations from EQ1 except since it's skill based they can do things like make Paladins gain increases in heavy armor skill a little slower than guardians so that guardians will be able to access things a little earlier than Paladins. Then they can make Berserkes even slower to gain (and with a lower cap) so they have to wait even longer. That way they keep armor levels appropriate to ALL potential classes and levels without having to make 3 different items for each class.

What class are you?

If you don't have the skill now, you may get it on one of your archetype quests (either level 10 or 20.) I am not able to wear heavy armour and plate now as a Cleric, but when I specialize to Templar, I will be able to.

As a scout you can wear very light armor and skin.

What are you going to specialize in at 10? I believe (but I'm not sure here, as it's not sitting in front of me) the instruction manual will list what type of armor you can wear for your class.

I'm going to go bard and then Troubadour. I remember in eq they could go Plate but i'm sure that's been taken away.... :(

Basic Scouts all wear Very Light Armor, only. All scout classes (Rogues, Predators and Bards) can wear Light Armor. All scout subclasses can wear Medium Armor. No Scouts ever get Heavy Armor.
