Allright - Time To Choose A Race/Class - Theroy & SuggesFollow

Allright -

Now that I have the basics of my account taken care of, as in my game is installed, the J-Boots work properly now, etc.... Its time for me to decide what Race/Class too be.... I had a few ideas (well.. only a couple..) and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how these would be in game....

I played EQ I for about 2 years, and then FFXI for the past year, so I'm not "new" to MMORPG's..... but I always seem to have trouble picking the right Race/Class combo, especially when its in a game where your choice will literally affect you for hundreds of gaming hours.

First Possibility -

<b>Race - Iksar
Class - Monk</b>

<i>Reason - Well I was a Monk in EQ I - and they simply put were rather fun to play, especially with the Fungi Tunic & CoF - I'm wondering in this game if Monks are any good inside combat however. I dont want to rush into a Melee class only to find that - well, there is no use for me ! I just remember being a young Monk before much twinkage and having two Master Wu's Trance Sticks and thinking how damn awsome that was... heh. I always liked the Agility and moves a Monk could do... if anyone could tell me how Monks were in Beta - thatd be great.</i>

Second Posssibility -

<b>Race - Kerran
Class - Sorcerer</b>

<i>Reason - Well - I always did like magic, I would also be open to a Kerran Shaman, as I remember how useful they used to be with their group buffs, backup healer, etc role. However I always did love magic, I was just unable to ever take a casting class very high - but given a new game and a new world, I was thinking of possibly going this route. Anyone who played as a Sorcerer or grouped with one alot, I could use your advice on how they are...</i>

Third Possibility -

<b>Race - Dark Elf
Class - Necromancer or Warlock</b>

<i>Reason - I dont know honestly.... I always liked Necro's, the problem was they were so damn useless in groups in the original. Once again I think this comes back to the fact magic users in FFXI tended to always be in demand while melees were pushed aside, and I must get rid of that stereotype because I'm not sure if it has any place in EQ II. Warlock's seem.. creative I guess, something like a cross between a Magician and a Necro.... once again, anyone who played these in beta, I could really use your opinion.</i>

Lastly, are there any stereotypes that are true to EQ II? Are some classes flat out worthless, or did they do as good of a job balancing the classes and races as I hope they did? I was also considering a Iksar Sorcerer, because, lets face it, a Iksar in a Robe > Stuff. Any ideas and help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Race has little to no effect on class performance, since the stat boosts from gear will outweigh any intristic stat bonuses by an enormous amount.

And... uh, make sure Parse Markup is on next time you use tags.

I believe that race specific traditions though might have an impact.

Thanks for the links and opinions - I was looking more though for how the classes I mentioned were in gameplay.

I've heard alot that any race can be any class effectivley here - just was wondering how the jobs I mentioned are... are they gimp, useful, easy finding groups or hard finding groups, etc. Need information ^^

I realized that right after I posted, Jute >.<

Kinda strange that nobody has posted yet regarding Monk/Sorcerer/Shaman or anything else.... did anyone play these in beta? Hell - even if you DIDNT play these in beta, post here what you DID play in Beta and tell me what you liked about your class.

I'm off to work for the next 5 hours, I'll try checking in a couple times during that span - I hope that theres some people who respond to this ^^

As was mentioned, gear will more than compensate for whatever race you decide on - for the most part. So at this point, it is down to whatever class you wish to play. Each class has a general role and a specific role. Do you want to be Priest, Scout, Fighter, or Arcane? That is really all you need to define right now since you will narrow your scope as you progress in levels and find your particular niche in the workings of things.

Just play how you like to play and you will eventually make the right decisions -- one at a time.

I didn't play beta, but my uncle did, and he said there was always demand for priest classes (shaman, druid, cleric). Sorry I can't help ya more, but at least it's something.

In any MMORPG there is always a demand for healer classes ^^ Because most people find Nuking or Meleeing to be... more fun, lol. Shaman's I think would be fun, clerics... I'm not so sure about, I never was one to sit there and just heal.
