So I just downloaded EQ last night after not playing since 2008. Today I started doing some reading and research and stumbled upon magelo, found my old character, from back in the day, a level 80 ranger with 806 aa, 18k hp, 1141 AC, 1841 atk. I understand by today's standard that is pretty sub par. My question is, is it worth trying to go back to this character, or should I start from scratch, and relive the glory and fun of the game?

If you plan on only playing one account, stick to time-locked progression servers. If you want to be completely F2P and multibox, there's test server. If you are fine being reliant on kronos/subscription, firiona vie is the best live server. If your ranger isn't on firiona vie then yeah I'd start over regardless.

There's auto-grant AA now on live servers if you have a subscription, plus it's very very fast to level back up to 80 if you follow franklin teek's hot zones. I don't remember what year they added mercenaries, but that's a thing now if you didn't know (an NPC you can hire/gear/group with)

Welcome back! I'd suggest starting from scratch and develop your character. The real fun of EverQuest is in the journey, and surviving the challenges along the way. Choose either live or TLP. I doubt you will find many groups until you level up on either. Just remember the roses smell great, but you cannot enjoy them if you are in a rush. Good Luck. Hopefully we will run across one another along the path! :)
