Plague Rat TailsFollow

Recently made a new ALT on a different server for some old times EQ action. (You know, the untwinked, no cash variety) And was shocked to see that the Rat's little tails no longer sell for their 1.8 or so plat.

Cannot believe they nerfed this down so harshly. I was human and my CHA was 75, so while not high, it was high enough to get a good amount on them. All I received for my tails was 1 gold and some change.

That is a HUGE nerf to the newbie game. Starting a caster these days would make me cringe at the costs they put on spells. The tails made it bearable to be able to buy all your spells when you leveled, but now it's back to buying 1 or 2 spells and when you're 10 levels past it going back to get a now worthless spell.

Or just never level and farm low end 5 gold items over and over and over and over... don't think I would need to tell you how fun that is.

I noticed it too. (sigh)

At first I thought I had discovered a huge exploit since the Plague Rat Tails typically sold for 2 plat or so.

I even bought a bunch from one vendor selling them for 2 gold and tried selling them to my usual vendor (one that I knew would always pay good money for them). But, alas, it was not to be true.

(sigh)

Back to farming silks

It isn't really a matter of that. When plague rat tails were selling for 2 platinum they were a fairly rare drop on most rats, such as the large ones in North Qeynos. When I played casters, I would get 3-5 platinums worth of poison sacs, rat eyes, snake jaws, and rat skulls before I found one of those tails, if I was lucky. It was probably closer to ten platinums worth of the afforementioned goods. The tails just provided an occasional bonus. I personally don't believe these tails selling for less is that significant of a blow to a lowbie caster buying spells, but maybe you guys have just been(a lot) more lucky with tails dropping than me.

When I was a lowbie without any friends in high places on my old server, the best money came from high levels who were too bored to go farm items themselves. I once got 100 pp for a bag full of Crushbone belts. And in West Karana there was someone farming some Beetle parts, since I was a ranger he offered me 2 pp each to track and farm them, but I had horrible luck. And of course spider silks sell for a lot in the bazaar now, I bet you could auction them off in PoK and tradeskillers would buy them for the convenience.

Anyway, since you have some knowledge of what high level characters, tradeskillers, or powerlevellers want but don't want to spend the time farming, you can use that to your advantage. I mean, as an EQ newbie I spent lots of time looking through message boards trying to learn all about the game, so I learned some of the same things that you know now just from experience. So it's not like you have too much of an unfair advantage. Just rationalize it as information handed down from your family. Smiley: wink

Game on,
