There is still hope for humanity.........Follow

A few nights ago in a far far land of Qeynos hills there lived a wee small Ranger dressed partly in smart green. A mere scrap of a whelp at just turning level 10 he mis-read the ingame info and thought that he only lost all his equipment upon death at level 11. With this heinous misconception in mind, and his lust for more Gnoll ruined armour to complete his Pine Scout quest he foolishly dropped through the snake trap in Black Burrow.

Alas a few minutes later a fully grown man of 32 was literally crying at his desk over all the loss of his equipment from being slaughtered by a baying pack of Gnolls.

BUT!!! There at the entrance of BB was a band of good women and men who offered assistance to a crying snivelling Ranger called Rutjosnabet. A short while later he was re-united with his wordly possessions and could venture forth once more upon this green land.

My thanks to all you kind folks from a few nights ago, I am sorry that I can't remember your names. I was the crying one saying his body was by some spikes in the ground.....
I truly hope I can repay others in the future with the level of good gaming community spirit and comradeship that has been displayed to me on Ventril Sathir.

Heh.. ya big weenie!

If there's one request I pretty much never turn down, it's help for a corpse run. Losing your corpse (or thinking you might) just plain sucks and especially at lower levels where many classes don't have the tools to retreive a corpse from a difficult location. Ask me for gear, powerleveling, money, etc and I'll ignore you. Ask me to help pull your corpse out of Befallen, Kaesora, Plane of Fear, etc and I'll help out to the best of my abilities and turn down any reward offered.

This is one of my favorite thing about EQ... In this fake, imaginary, conjured up world, we place a great deal of importance on our equipment and time. I love it when people help me out and therefore I love to help others out.

I even love to here that other people are helping other people out. Makes me feel slightly more comfortable putting my fake, imaginary, conjured up character's **** on the line in a dangerous situation, knowing that someone out there will help me if the worst happens.

Aye

This is too true, I'm sure there is not many of us would be here now if were not for the help of fellow travellers helping us retrieve our corpses from seemingly impossible places.

So, yes as Jophiel says I don't think I have ever knowingly not helped someone retrieve said corpse, and as a Paladin (2nd rate rez I know) have never and would never accept a donation for such help.

I owe too much to those that have helped me before, (ohhh casts her mind back to her first 96pct rez in kith forrest when i thought all was lost, ohh and the day I fell off the bridge to Thurgadin, ohh and the slaughter of a young pally in her newly quested finest in FP tunnels...../shudder it goes on and on and on but the memory and the debt remains).

In the word of those much wiser than I "pay the debt forward".

Goodluck, welcome to Norath and find fun always in your travels.

What a great story!!! ROFLOL! Has it not happened to anyone, yet?It certainly has happened to me. And bless those amazing people who seem to sense your despair through the computer. Its why people keep playing through all the frustrations of the game. Thanks

I had a good one a while back, I was 2 boxing my then level 34 Ranger with my level 34 Shaman. I was trying to get into the basement, but I took a wrong turn ended up getting killed by the moldmaster. I went on my CR as normal, when I got back to my corpse to my dismay I saw the moldmaster standing there guarding my corpse.. Naturally I thought, Oh F%@#, I still had my sow, I think, and I tried to grab my corpse and run. No dice killed me again, both of us. Anyway I beleive I tried one more time and same result, ten a extrememly nice level 41 Druid, asked me if I needed some help, she may have been sitting near my bind point watching me spawn over and over. Anyway she came along and went and tanked the moldmaster, while she kept him occupied I looted my corpse to my surprise she was taking a hammering as well, later she told me she was oom when she went in. Anyway, my ranger got all his gear on and went and finished tanking, the great girl led me out, and I gave her all I had on me 50pp, she declined, I insisted. Probably the sweetest 50pp she ever made as it was filled with love. ahhhhhhhhhh =)

My first character lost all his gear at level 7 or so in BlackBorrow to that nasty pit trap. (I know, I know you don't loose you gear till level 10 or so now, but this was a long time ago, year 2000, when BB was crowded). That event basically made me realize I should print out maps because it was really rough loosing everything back then.

As far as hope for humanity, I am amazed at the quality of conduct in Eq. Honestly, I think the random acts of good outweigh the random acts of malice about 10 to 1.

For every ML who goes magically LD at the end of a mission, never to return, I find tons of people genuinely willing to give up their time to help.

I'll never forget to repay all the folks who have dragged my pathetic remains out from under the feet of horrific monsters by dragging others remains out from under the feet of horrific monsters.

I get such a kick out of people shouting for help to find their corpse, then having my shadow knight appear and summon the corpse to their feet. Sometimes, you can actually hear their jaw hitting the desk. Smiley: grin
