Clarification

Ya, just remember that this ring most likely works off of 'base' HP meaning if you have HP+ gear on, it's going to throw you off. Calculate 75% of your HP before gear and before food.

Be warned though, using this ring and fighting will most likely get you killed, time and time again I have regretted using this ring and I'm no noob thief.

wow I only paid 4k for mine, but using it for my LB5, tried BLU LB5 4 times and RDM LB5 4 times, I'm ready for something a little more simple.

Well, I've discovered somethings about steal and this ring. I'm a 68THF on Hades server. I've been doing steal runs for Maat since 66. Well, first off this ring works best when in yellow HP. I go to steal from Tomberry Pursuers and well always had ****** luck. I found out that if you keep yellow HP steal. It seems to work best if your in combat and steal. I've tried sleeping. Nothing but Failed to Steal. I've tried hidden and from behind and again Failed to Steal. But I found the best method is to have this ring equiped and stay in yellow HP. Running up in combat then steal seems to be really effective. I did that method for my last testimony then went straight to Maat. Got pumped for Maat then just ran in used Reraise and went into combat. I let him hit me once then stole. I came out 1/5. It may all just be luck but I will have to do more research on it. I've tried all those above methods too and this one just seems to work the best.

I understand the latent for this is thought to be 75% or lower HP and under 100% TP, but does anyone have any idea about if you have to have your weapons drawn and be attacking for the latent or not?

Latent effect is triggered by having less than 100% TP and less than 75% HP.
hope that helps someone out there.

Yes this is a tough ring to test. I have it macroed in and it really seemd to help in Bibiki Bay but I cannot be sure exactly what triggers it. 800k on Fairy in May 06'.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 11 2006 at 9:15 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Every other of the lvl 50 latent rings requires yellow hp and <100% tp to use. Logically, this would follow the pattern.

Ive been wanting one of these for awhile but due to crazy price jump from 800k in Dec 05 to now 3 Million on Fairy i refuse to buy for over 1M for a latent effect. I did the BCNM chest won but no ring i was sad but ended with Quake 1.4M i can't even sell that to get my ring ><

Trying to prove what latent effect makes this ring go off, will be harder than trying to proving Intelligent Design.

Current Theory

Currently the theory is that this ring's latent effect kicks in when HP is less than or equal to 75% AND TP is less than 100.
In the past I've heard TH doesn't work if you kill a monster with WS. Some of you may be avoiding doing this while farming, and so building up TP and making your ring's latent effect not work. Try keeping your TP below 100% and HP below 75%. In xp parties you will probably gain TP too quickly to notice a real difference, so this is probably best tested farming.

the latent effect is "Steal", not treasure hunter, so no need to worry about how a mob dies

Just read this as I'm thinking about getting this.
For those in a farming run trying to test it out but having too much TP but not wanting to kill the mob with a WS, if you're using dagger, which if you're a thf at this lvl you should be and if not, shame on you, use the 2 MP stealing WSes to drain your TP while keeping yourself from killing the mob at the same time. Very useful for those last minute steals.

perhaps steal +3 raises the perccentage from 5% to 8% (not actual but conceptual) so you wouldn't even know its working unless you looked at results from thousands of tests. With that said I'm going to assume the latent effect is activated when the thf is currently not the most hated.
Stealing
# Jul 06 2005 at 1:19 PM Rating: Excellent
I thought I'd just put my 2 cents up here since i've been testing this ring relentlessly ever since i got it <<68thf. I've tried everything I can think of to get this thing to work, and I mean EVERYTHING! Instead of trying to activate the ring, i now do what works best and i assume the ring is working since, well, it works best ^^. I steal most often when behind a mob and engaged in battle. Of course, this only works with another person helpin u. Also, i find that i can steal more efficiently from gobs, opposed to yags, quadavs, whatever. I don't know if any of these factors are activating the ring or not, but it works the best in my experience. I've never once noticed a difference in stealing ability with regards to yellow hp, red hp, ANY hp, or any variations of tp for that matter. Oh yea, i think this goes without saying, but ill say it anyway. The weaker the mob, the easier to steal from them, except when the mobs differ in species. It's easier to steal from VT gobs than it is to steal from EP yags and quadavs.
Remember, this is just my experience, don't take any of it for fact. I'm just posting my findings to try and help out. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, that's fine ^^
Still lookin'

Been camping this ring on the Lakshmi AH for weeks now. I always seem to miss it. /cry

I'm gonna need this for my Maat fight pretty soon, so if anyone on Lakshmi wants to get rid of one of these I'll buy it for 80k. Just /tell Zvornik.

And to answer questions: This ring (like all the level 50 JSE rings of this type) are activated by yellow HP.

But remember, every Latent effect is different. Just like with those level 30 earrings, a certain sub makes those Latent effects kick in. So the pattern for the level 50 rings seems to be yellow HP.

Do not confuse Hidden effects with Latent effects.

A Hidden effect is just that, hidden, the item will not hint to what a hidden effect is.

Where as a Latent effect is clearly labled on the item, but it's our job to find out what triggers that effect.

Well if it's like the Guardian Ring for Paladins then it is Yellow Health and under 100tp to activate.

hidden steals?
# Jan 10 2005 at 7:54 PM Rating: Decent
maybe this effect kicks in if you are hidden? I was just thinking that if a SAM's kicks in at 100% tp then the stat prolly kicks in for something more specific to your job. I would think that for a thief the closest thing we have is Hide so... maybe if I get one of these Ill try that out.

Dunno if anybody knew this, but latent means hidden. So no, it doesn't neccesarily mean you have to have yellow health, that's probably coincidental. Probably kicks in at random, or maybe at intervals, I don't know. Once I hit 50, I'll get one and check it out for myself, but until then, I'll keep thinking it's random. Maybe somebody can prove a pattern in it or something. I hope I helped solve a bit of this confusion with "latent effects" ^.^
