ZAM Launches Free Realms Site

We are happy to announce our newest ZAM site, which is dedicated to SOE's ground breaking MMO Free Realms.  In the 10 years I have been doing this, I don't think I have ever made a post saying go play this game, but here it is -- go play this game.  If you have a young child as I do, you are going to love Free Realms.  It is the Bugs Bunny of gaming, simple enough in many areas to entertain a kid, but complex and mature enough to keep adults interested too.  Free Realms is not for the hard core raider, but those who like to play an hour or two at a time will find themselves coming back and playing it over and over again.  There is a huge amount of content available for free and even more for a minimal $5.00 monthly fee.  Most important of all, the game is just plain fun.  But don't just listen to me.  Since it is free to sign up and you can start playing in literally minutes, there is little reason to not give it a try and decide for yourselves.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised.  I know I was.  For a more information, check out Pwyff's preview.

Our Free Realms Site is still in its infancy, but will be growing up quickly.  Soon we will have a full fledged database for it.  In the meantime, we enourage anyone who is playing to help expand our wiki and post your questions in our forum.

So I decided to try this game out.

It was telling me to turn on java even though it was already on.

The real issue was no-script, just had to unblock freerealms.com and then I think also sony.com and it worked fine.

I had no issues after that in the lil tutorial part where you chase away the goblin/troll thingys.

But once I actually got into the real game where other people were and such, it causes my whole pc to freeze, the only remedy appearing to be a hard restart.

I'm usually able to take a few steps forward from the spawn point there, and then nothing.

Anyone got any ideas on what might be causing this?

I was thinking perhaps there was some other url I needed to unblock but would be unable to do once the actual game loads. I'm not really sure how that whole deal works, what with loading directly from firefox etc.

Drivers... maybe.

I have AVG, but If I have to turn that off just to play, then I will probably just pass on this game :/ I've never had problems with it during any other online games etc.

Ok so after some more playing around, I realized the freezing occurred always when rotating the camera to the left... weird I thought.

So something told me it was a graphic setting... some type of conflict going on.

So I went into nvidia control panel and adjusted all the settings for freerealms.exe located in "Program Files\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\Free Realms." (BTW I hate when I can't choose install directory ><)

Turned all that stuff off, or to application controlled... and it works!!!!

So apparently some effect is not compatible with this game?

Now to slowly try and figure out which exact, or combination of effects cause this to happen.

Hope someone may find this helpful, and if anyone knows what it is, please share ^^

Peace

You know, I don't know about all these people who say 'not friendly click to play button' Have you got the latest ActiveX? Flash? Latest Firefox?

Most people who have this issue are still running firefox 2.

Works fine in FF for me on three different computers. Have you got an anti-virus running?
