Happy! - After last week's episode, this finale was a bit underwhelming. Still liked it. But it was a quick resolution with not as much of the crude humor there. We'll see what happens now that Happy is Sax's imaginary friend, and what ever Demon was in Mike is now in Blue. Was hoping to see Blue go apeshit on the guards at the end there once possessed.

I liked the touch at the end with the music as Bad Santa was dying. He's falling, fataly injured, the song playing. Then when he reaches the end of the cord and snaps his neck, it all stops suddenly. Too bad they never explored his Lobotomized Zombie followers... those looked like they could have been an interesting addition.

Black Lightning was a low episode this week. Premiere was kind of dull, 2nd episode was good, 3rd was somewhere in the lower half between the two. But now we know that Black Lightning's Butler/Tailor friend is covering something up for the bad guy.

I did laugh at the younger daughter being so open with the parents and telling them that she was going to have sex. "Ok, it's happening Saturday." The parents couldn't do anything but continue to eat/drink.

Wednesday's are pretty full on my DVR it seems. Still have to watch X-Files. Happy! is over for now, but in it's place next week starts the next season of Channel Zero, titled Butcher's Block. Previews make it look like it's something about Cannibals.

Third Cloverfield movie trailer aired during Superbowl (apparently, I wasn't watching). It does how ever release on Netflix after the game. The Cloverfield Paradox. Gonna tune into that one.

Been watching Altered Carbon. And there is a LOT of nudity some of which is Dichen Lachman (Daisy's mother)... no complaints there.. The whole thing is about Immortality and the Immorality that comes with it, so it does kind of fit. Takes place in a futurist world, but instead of speaking some random Chinese like is usually done, they mix in some Japanese and Slavic in there. And some Spanish. On episode 7 so far. And enjoying it.

I imagine all the people that believe the pilgrims came over from Europe so they could celebrate Christmas will pile into theaters for it. Which, you know, is an unfortunately large number of people.

I think Black Lightning is pretty much two for three. That pilot was horrible beyond description, but it really smoothed out the script so it isn't so painful to watch the messages it's trying to tell. And I have to admit I like the family angle. Still early, but I like it more than Arrow and Supergirl, and better than most "Barry Messes Everything Up" episodes of the Flash. Still like Legends of Tomorrow and SHIELD more, though.

Happy! could have ended better, but it was still a decent cliffhanger leading into (hopefully) the next season, and the whole season was outlandish enough to not be ruined by it's pretty mundane conclusion.

Super Bowel trailers and spots.

I had some serious doubts about the Solo movie when I first heard about. The trailer has not helped.

Huh. What about the trailer did you not like? I thought it was pretty darn good actually. Hard to say, since it didn't have a lot of detail, but from what I saw, it at least hit the most basic points (he was initially a pilot working for the Empire, then <something something> he becomes a smuggler). Having actually read some of the old old Solo/Chewbacca books (long long ago...), my take on the trailer was more relief that they weren't trying to retcon him too much. One of the common threads in those books was that he had knowledge of how Imperial security worked (at least, how to get into Imperial docking facilities, not always so great getting out again though), which helped him with his various schemes.

Dunno. The trailer was a bit nostalgic for me. I'm more looking forward to the film after having seen the trailer than I was before, so I guess for me at least, it worked.

I think part of the problem is that the movie is just around the corner and there's really been almost no marketing for it. It's also competing with both Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War so maybe that's why Disney isn't pushing it.

Along with Westworld's return on April 22nd, Legion is returning April 3rd, making the month pretty happily busy. Both terrific shows.

The little bit of story we got didn't bother me. What did bother me was pretty much the entire cast. The guy playing Solo doesn't look or sound anything like Harrison Ford. The guy I assume is supposed to be playing Lando doesn't look remotely like Billy Dee Williams. Woody Harelson has his uses, but he also, for the most part always plays the same character. He stands out like a sore thumb. Emilia Clarke is decent enough in GoT, but she hasn't had much success beyond that, so I'm not terribly glad to see her in it either.

I only watched The Flash last night, and that was about the laziest piece of writing I had ever seen in the show. "Oh, you know that dead guy who you physically have the body of? Well, here he is, still alive, by the way you'll never see or hear from him again and his wife won't ever question it ever. Barry, you're free to go!"

That was worse than the introduction of a love affair motive as reasonable doubt being thrown out with a 10 second "He knew and was OK with it" explanation.

Also, needs more Wife on Bad-Luck-Blondie action.

I especially liked how Barry spent so much time insisting he didn't want to leave the prison unless it was done legally, but seemed to not mind all that perjury. It does explain how villains keep being sent to and being released from jail though. The court system is moronic.

Deadpool 2 extended trailer. I lost it at his reaction to the incomplete CG.

Jessica Jones S2 trailer.

I spent so much time trying to find out which creepypasta it was based on that I forgot to actually watch the new episode of Channel Zero. It's sitting on my dvr next to Supergirl now. I did find out that the guy that wrote "Search and Rescue Woods" worked with the producer and head writer to work on Butcher's Block, and he said on reddit "I would like to stress that this is NOT a direct copy of the series, and is its own story. However, I am 100% confident that you guys are going to love it!"

First Venom teaser. Ha ha, I lied. It's "Tom Hardy Getting An MRI: The Movie"

I get that they want to "keep the monster a surprise," but after Spider-Man 3 I can't imagine anyone wants to go into a theater without knowing what the symbiote looks like. Hide the villains, not the title character.

I watched Butcher's Block, the only thing I did watch on TV last night. I still have two episodes of X-Files and an episode of Supergirl to watch. Plus Magicians and Librarians that I haven't caught up on yet.

Butcher's Block definitely keeps the creepy going. I left that part of the internet a long time ago so I am not fluent on my creepypasta. Never got into that, and the last time I was on any -chan boards was when "Duckroll" was picking up steam. Interwebs says that's around 2006, but I'm pretty sure I was still in Highschool when I saw it which should put it around 2002 at the latest.

Almost done with Altered Carbon. One more episode left. I hope there is room for more, but we'll see how they end the season. (Also haven't looked up whether or not it's already renewed).

Speaking of "The Magicians", I think it may be my current favorite show. This season has been fantastic so far. They've got some of the most complicated but realistic characters on TV. They play around with the basic tropes of the fantasy genre and turn everything on it's head. Not to mention, the show is not predictable at all, which is pleasantly refreshing. I won't go into spoiler territory, but l will say that last couple of episodes, especially episode five have been been some of the most satisfying TV viewing I've done in a long time.

Wait, what? This I need more of.

I'm finishing up Channel Zero, and I can see the similarities with "Search & Rescue Woods," but it's different enough as well. I think I like it better than the first two seasons. Also finished up Supergirl, and it wasn't as horrible as it usually is, except for some reason Mon-El just had to whine about how he was a misogynist. Someone needs to sit down whoever is in charge of dialogue and have a conversation with them because no one talks like that.

It looks like Michael Bay is in talks with WB to direct a movie based on Lobo, which at first glance might look like a bad idea but Bay kind of is a perfect fit for the character. Crass hyper-masculinity and explosions are like 90% of Lobo's DNA. Rumor is that the current hold up before that deal is made is that Bay is against the idea of the movie having a $200m budget. Also in the rumormill is that Joaquin Phoenix has pretty much agreed to star in the Todd Phillip stand-alone Joker Origin Movie. Kind of hoping it's an anthology movie with three or four versions of an origin story and no conclusive evidence that any of them are true, and not just a two and a half hour reframing of the flashback scenes from Killing Joke.

And people unironically wonder why faith in WB's cape movies is shaky.

Wait, what? This I need more of.

The exact line was, "Sorry, Officer. Our friend's cat was sick and exploded. You know, like they do." Said shortly after, while in a hospital with a cat in an animal carrier, it hissed and exploded in a bloody mess while a security officer was standing there. Extra spoiler for Image (Videos were all Copyright Claimed online)... https://i.imgur.com/kKZLrzv.jpg

The show is pretty good. Likeable characters. A mixture of all the ****** up personalities you'd expect from 20-somethings with magical powers and drugs. I don't know if it's on Season 3 now, or still 2. I'm not sure if I'd agree with Turin on how the tropes and personalities are all that unique, or turned upside down. Maybe in comparison to something like Harry Potter, it's very upside down. But they are still very likeable. Production values and story material are pretty good for a Sci-Fi show. It's not Asylum level hilarity and poor graphics like Z Nation. You could almost expect something of equal production levels on one of the paid networks like Starz or maybe even HBO. Speaking of which... if it was on Starz or HBO then that well endowed blonde lead actress would probably have some topless scenes.

I really wanted to watch the third Mazerunner movie last weekend, and Black Panther this weekend next weekend... (I thought 2/9 but looks like it's 2/16. Still probably not going to be able to watch it then). But a huge project at work is consuming my usual Saturday morning/early afternoon theater window. So that's not going to work out well. I guess I could try to make an afternoon showing, but I really hate large crowds and earliest showings are usually the least populated.

I've yet to watch any of those new trailers posted here. I really should check them out. Also didn't watch any of the Superbowl so I didn't see any of the commercials and still haven't.

When I heard Michael Bay and Lobo I was happy. I actually liked all of the Transformers movies. Cause they all had transforming robots and explosions (and the token hot girl), and what else does a Transformer movie need? I'm not there to watch Citizen Kane.

And I guess I'm not expecting much out of a Joker origin film. I would probably watch it. Though I did wait til Suicide Squad was out on DVD before seeing that.

Legends of Tomorrow returns tonight, so thumbsup for that.

I saw a commercial for Samson just now, and it looked like it was just recycling scenes from that recent Hercules movie. The one that didn't have Dwayne Johnson in it. Specifically the scene where he's pushing pillars aside. Meh, either way it opens on the 16th which means it's more than dead in the water. The only reason I can think up to see that is as a protest against Disney and Black Panther.

I'm apparently going to have to find back episodes of The Magicians if exploding cats really is an indication of the show's quality.

Preacher season 3's production is underway, and a few new faces have been cast. Betty Buckley (Gram'ma), Colin Cunningham (TC), Jeremy Childs (Jody), and Liz McGeever (Christina).

I watched The Ritual on Netflix over the weekend. And really liked it. Also watched Radius and, while I thought The Ritual was better, it was pretty good too.

Netflix keeps sending me "Hey, we added something you might like!" And a lot of the times they are right. But on Friday it told me they added something I might like... Emoji Movie... and I thought "Swing and a miss."

Legends returns tonight, according to my cable box. And I guess that means Supergirl is over for now? (Must not have paid attention in the last episode) Cause pretty sure it's on the Supergirl time slot.

Last two episodes of X-Files were much more to my liking. And that's on a break too.

I can only assume that Walking Dead is coming back next weekend? It's always around Valentine's Day, right? I haven't seen any commercials though.

Advertising campaign for Black Panther seems kind of slow. I expected to see it in a lot more places.

Haven't checked it out myself since I kinda bailed on the series after just a couple episodes, but a friend of mine told me that the netflix version of the series includes nudity and other stuff that isn't on the sy-fy channel. Just sayin'

Internet says that Season 3 is airing uncensored on Sci-Fi currently. Still no actual nudity. Guess they aren't censoring words though?

Can't find much about nudity in the show on Netflix. And usually stuff like that spreads fast. Didn't take but a day or so for Dichen Lachman from Altered Carbon to show up online.

I'll probably watch a few episodes on Netflix to refresh, and see what if anything actually changes with the uncensored version.

Edit:
Skimmed a few of the important episodes from Season 1 on Netflix. I think the uncensored part is just language.

The opening scene of Butcher's Block last night was almost creepier than the episodes themselves. 1950s house wife beating the meat, and winking at you.

Starting to catch up on Black Lightning, now that a few things are on a short break. Still 3 episodes behind on Arrow.

Librarians season finale was really dull. Very cliche dystopian alternate future where expression and thought are outlawed by a repressive nameless overbearing government, and everything was black and white or very dull colors.

Finally seeing a lot more Black Panther trailers play this week. Still thought I'd see more in the past two than I did. And still pretty sure I'll be working all weekend and unable to see it.

And, I'm imagining in my head that the actor that played Constantine said he'd return to do a cameo on Legends only if he got to sleep with Sarah. Is there anything she won't sleep with?

Speaking of censorship ... I'm occasionally finding myself jarred when someone says shit on basic cable. Not that the language is anything to write home about (Raised in an Italian home, fuck wasn't so much a "word" as much as a "comma.") it's just new and not something I'm used to.

Trailer for Incredibles 2. I think fourteen years is a little long to wait for a sequel, and having it start literally just after the first movie is a bit weird, but it's both Pixar and a sequel to the Incredibles so worth a shot. Also have a bias towards father and child interaction so that is definitely neat to see.

Stefano Sollima, director of Sicario 2: Soldada is in talks to helm a movie adaptation of "Call of Duty." Personally I think you can slap the CoD title on any war movie and you couldn't convince me it wasn't based on that game franchise, but I'm not a fan of FPS in the first place. Apparently Kieran Fitzgerald penned the script for the movie, and the two are "hoping to turn the mega popular Call of Duty franchise into a cinematic universe that could rival Marvel or DC." I think there are more details, but after I read that sentence I lost all ability to read because of the tears of laughter.

Black Panther tonight. Projections are putting opening weekend at something like $180m. I ... think that is highly doubtful, but I do think it's going to hit a pretty high number. There hasn't really been a movie to see in theaters for the last month except Jumanji 2, so the movie going general audience is starved for something new.

I don't want to like, or even be interested, in the idea of a Teen Titans Go! movie but they're making it really hard.

All the nudity occurs just off camera or behind strategically placed items and limbs, same as when it was on Sci-Fi. They don't censor the F-Bombs though. But some of those word censors are pretty loose these days anyway. Like they blank out the "U" in fuck, leaving the F and K sounds intact. You barely notice that it's been censored. I didn't even noticed that apparently the current season is airing uncensored on TV too. I have 2 episodes to watch, will have to pay attention and listen for the language.

Edit:
There are many uncensored F-Bombs while on SciFi on Season 3. So it is "uncensored".

Black Panther. 7/10. Doctor Strange tier. Edit tomorrow.

It's definitely an enjoyable movie. It just has some serious pacing problems. The scenes just don't flow very well and can feel jarring at times, especially the first act. And some of the CG work is pretty unfortunate. The first and last scene looks too much like staged greenscreens. It just doesn't look like a convincing forest, or a real grassy plain. The fight between Bosewell and Jordan in their respective super suits is also ugly looking at the end. It's like watching a first generation PS3 fighting game. And probably the worst crime is that it follows the standard cape formula of introducing villains only to kill them at the end. Don't get me wrong, Jordan is great as Killmonger, and definitely at the top half of all cape villains.

But the acting is definitely top shelf. Even the extras are all giving it their all. The highlight of the movie is a lot like what made Doctor Strange great, though. While Strange was all about the psychodelic magic, Black Panther is all about Wakanda. I mean, there's just something to be impressed about that Coogler made a whole convincing new country, complete with it's own culture. Unlike the fight scenes, the bulk of the budget definitely went to designing the country and bringing it to life. The story is pretty simple, too. While it might have some issues flowing from scene to scene, it's still good. And while the final fight might have been unfortunate, Danai Gurira and the Dora Milaje fights were a delight of choreography. But at the other end of that spectrum M'Baku is definitely mischaracterized.

And if it's a concern, the movie is definitely not a comedy. There's a few jokes here and there, and one scene is definitely annoying because of it (for the comic purist, anyway), but for the most part it's Captain America-like, in that it's serious for the most part. I'd say it's worth a trip to the theater, but not any lose if you wait.

I more or less agree on Black Panther. It's entertaining enough, though definitely not top tier. I had a lot of the same issues with this movie that I did with Thor 3. Odd pacing, silly unrealistic fight scenes, and a forgettable villain. Also, the CGI was just not very good. My basic theory on CGI is if I can tell it was done with a computer instead of practical effects, they should have have just done it with practical effects. A lot of this movie is painfully obvious computer work with some especially bad green screen effects. I've seen more convincing stuff on SyFy TV shows.

Storywise, it did a decent enough job showing off Wakanda and it got the BP origin story out of the way, but it did nothing to set up Infinity War or even further the MCU much at all. If it weren't for a few seconds in the beginning reminding people about what happened in Civil War and the post credits scene with Bucky, there would be no connection at all to the rest of the MCU. I was a bit annoyed that the most interesting character in the movie got killed about half way through. I won't mention who it is, but if you see, you'll know. I also think Martin Short is trying just a bit too hard to be the next Coulson.

Overall, I'd give it about a 5.5/10. It's just good enough that I wasn't bored, but I don't think I'll be watching it again anytime soon.
