Stephen Lang, the main bad guy from Avatar, took to Twitter over the weekend to throw his name into the hat to play Cable in the green-lit Deadpool sequel. I'd say he has the look. Movie broke three or four weekend and February records, showing that sometimes taking risks work out.

Todd McFarlene, creator of Spawn and one of the head honchos of Image Comics, says the script for his Spawn movie is pretty much complete and about 140 pages long, and says "I'd put it more into horror/suspense/supernatural genre. If you take the movie 'The Departed' meets 'Paranormal Activity,' something like that... In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the spectre, the ghost."

Another trailer was released today for Daredevil season 2, which will be returning this March.

We went out to eat last night, and apparently my daughter's teacher taught her about how you should unplug appliances when they're not in use to save energy or whatnot. So she decided that the dvr should be unplugged, and I'm without Lucifer, Supergirl, and X-Files, two of which I was looking forward to watching. Children are miracles.

Natalia Cordova-Buckley will be showing up in Agents of SHIELD as Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, an Inhuman speedster, except after a sprint she gets thrown back to where she started, giving her the code name "Slingshot." Originally showed up in the Secret Warriors mini, which is great. Now we just need Ares' kid ... and Ares. The one from Incredible Hercules hopefully.

Child like wonder, Pee-Wee's Big Holiday Netflix trailer.

It looks like Supergirl didn't air yesterday. So you didn't miss that one at least. My box didn't have it on it, and it didn't show anything in the history about skipping due to a mistaken "repeat" or random issue.

I think it was the Grammys? I am not sure, I didn't tune in. But google seems to have a lots of stuff today about the Grammys.

Better Call Saul started back up too. I haven't watched that yet. Currently watching Lucifer, wishing they'd show us this infamous Hot Tub High School clip...

Edit:
Flash Alternate-Barry says "She's pretty [pause] thorough." Just as Alternate Caitlin's picture loads, and he's talking about Patty, while sitting in front of his wife. And not even a glance out of her... A missed opportunity, even if it would have been a cliched one, there.

Oh, and Jay that was on Earth-1, looks like he's actually a clone. Real Jay is locked up by Zoom. Which gives a different reasoning behind the cellular degeneration.

Flash: Earthquake based villain, quick peak at a tv news report about how citizens are "shaken." I heh'd. Good thing there was only three people in that huge collapsing building. Does everyone easily break into STAR Labs? Also Barry, you know Zoom showed you just so you'd get faster, so way to do exactly as the villain wants. Theorycrafting time: Jay tried to get faster, but lost his speed to Zoom. Zoom is obsessed with getting faster, and Jay is lacking in go-fast except for the Velocity potions. A quick google search shows Zoom's secret identity is Hunter Zolomon, who we found out an episode or so ago was Jay's doppleganger's name after an adoption. So I'm guessing Jay created Zoom when trying to go faster. Possibly split himself from the Speed Force which manifested itself as Zoom. Maybe the real Jay is the guy in the mask, and possibly the Earth-2 Hunter is imposterating Jay and is actually Zoom. Jay's kind of a dumbass. Who the hell stands in front of the doorway in a horror movie? As if "you're cured" and "hot girlfriend" weren't red flags enough. Also probably not dead The Jaws promo was a nice touch.
Carter: You know it wasn't long ago they couldn't show a dude punching a woman. Amazing how far we've come. At this point I'm only watching for Jarvis and the claim it'll relate to Doctor Strange. Next week another two hour episode/pair of episodes. The network is really trying to rush the show out the door.

Kurt Russel officially part of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 cast. Rumors have been circulating about him for a while now, possibly Quill's father, though not J'son of Spartax. Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Chris Sullivan are also new to the movie, though I'm not sure if their actual roles are confirmed yet either. Production has also officially started, so just a matter of time. Picture. Official press release:
Press Release wrote:
ATLANTA, Ga. (February 17, 2016) - Marvel Studios has begun principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which is slated to hit U.S. theaters on May 5, 2017. The production will shoot at Atlanta's Pinewood Studios.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is written and directed by James Gunn ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Slither"). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt ("Jurassic World," "Guardians of the Galaxy") as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Star Trek Into Darkness") as Gamora; Dave Bautista ("Spectre," "Guardians of the Galaxy") as Drax; Vin Diesel ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Furious 7") as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper ("Joy," "American Sniper") as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Jumper") as Yondu; Karen Gillan ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "The Big Short") as Nebula; and Sean Gunn ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Gilmore Girls") as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff ("Oldboy"), Elizabeth Debicki ("The Great Gatsby," "Everest"), Chris Sullivan ("The Knick," "The Drop") and Kurt Russell ("The Hateful Eight," "Furious 7").

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" continues the team's adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is produced by Marvel Studios' president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Nik Korda and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

Director James Gunn's creative team also includes director of photography Henry Braham ("The Legend of Tarzan," "The Golden Compass"); production designer Scott Chambliss ("Star Trek," "Tomorrowland"); editors Fred Raskin ("The Hateful Eight," "Guardians of the Galaxy") and Craig Wood ("Guardians of the Galaxy," "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"); three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky ("Captain America: Civil War," "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"); Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Chris Townsend ("Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Iron Man 3"); stunt coordinator Tommy Harper ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" ); co-producer / first assistant director Lars Winther ("Captain America: Civil War," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"); and six-time Oscar® nominee, special effects supervisor Dan Sudick ("Captain America: Civil War," "The Avengers").

The original "Guardians of the Galaxy" was a hit with critics and audiences alike, earning over $770 million at the worldwide box-office, and holds the record as the most successful debut film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition, the film's soundtrack went platinum and was nominated for a Grammy®.

Based on the Marvel comic characters first published in 1969, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 "continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "Captain America: The First Avenger," "The Avengers," "Iron Man 3," "Thor: The Dark World," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Ant-Man," and the upcoming release schedule, which includes "Captain America: Civil War" on May 6, 2016; "Doctor Strange," November 4, 2016; "Spider-Man," July 7, 2017; and "Thor: Ragnarok" on November 3, 2017.

Marvel Studios continued its unprecedented success in 2015 with the release of "Avengers: Age of Ultron." At the time of release, the film recorded the second biggest opening weekend of all time with a $191.3 million box office. It has also been the #1 release in every country where it has opened and has grossed over $1.4 billion in global box office. The studio also successfully launched another franchise with "Ant-Man," starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly. The film opened #1 at the box office on July 17 and went on to gross more than $519 million at the worldwide box office. The film propelled the Marvel brands' #1 domestic box-office opening streak to a record-breaking 12 consecutive films.

Julianne Moore in talks to be the villain in the next Kingsmen movie. While the movie was an amusing watch, I think the first movie underutilized Samuel L Jackson so hopefully Moore is written as a better villain.

There's rumblings about how Fox is looking to push the next Wolverine movie to an R rating after the massive success of Deadpool. I don't know, it worked on Deadpool because of how juvenile the movie was, and the Wolverine movies tend to be ridiculously serious business, bordering on morbidly depressing. I don't think the formula works to try to catch that lightning twice with such isometrically different franchises. I guess I'm forced to at least consider the possibility of it working, considering I didn't think it'd work for Deadpool either.

Arrow: We can't possibly have Felicity have any challenges to her personality. Begone, crippling! "How about I kicked your ass like a woman?" What, nag until he loses the will to live? If you're going to make painfully cliche girl power statements, then I'm going to make painfully obvious sexist jokes. Vixen was kind of a neat character in the last (before last? One of) Justice League cartoons, so I'd like to see how her powers translate in the Arrowverse. Seems simple enough.

Such beautiful news, James Gunn confirms Pom Klementieff will play Mantis! Aside my calling it months ago, it probably means at least one awesome martial arts fight scene. Hopefully Winter Soldier level. Gunn also says that Quill will still be the only one with an Earth origin, so they'll have to figure out an alien race to change her to, since Mantis is Vietnamese-German. Then again, Drax is kind of from Earth too, and that worked out ... by ignoring it completely. There's still Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Kurt Russell's roles to go.

Absorbing Man, Crusher Creel, to show up again in the next half of Agents of SHIELD. Good, he was one of the more interesting villains the show had to offer, and I'd doubly appreciate it if they'd further confirm the link between AoS and Daredevil. Have him talk about his boxing days and about how he got screwed out of a championship or something.

Robert Downey Jr is playing Geppetto in a Warner Bros.' Pinocchio remake similar to Disney's Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella, which is kind of funny if you think about MCU Tony Stark. And it'll be directed by Ron Howard. Really just wrote this because the whole Geppetto Tony Stark thing had me chuckling. Abbey Lee in talks to play Tirana in a live action adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower. I remember somebody or somebodies read that, so that's probably good news. John Wick has a February 10, 2017 release date, and Blade Runner 2 gets MLK Weekend, 2018.

Next week's episode should be nifty, with Ollie's goatee finally making it's debut.

Anthony Mackie accidentally, or intentionally, named Mark Ruffalo as part of the Civil War cast. Seeing as how his name has been absent all this time, if true I'd wager he's there for an after credits scene, possibly to link to Ragnarok. Waking up inside the cockpit of the Quinjet Hulk stole in Age of Ultron, looking out and seeing the Rainbow Bridge maybe?

Bilbo Baggins', sometime Martin Freeman, role has been revealed as Everett Ross, the US government expert liaison to Wakanda. Ward's new role has also been revealed, as the creature that takes him over is known as the "Hive," a mass of genetically engineered parasites created by Hydra to personify the best qualities of the organization and the individuals. Though for the show it's gone from genetic parasites to an Inhuman.

Justice League to start filming in April. To celebrate, Henry Cavill asks children a simple question.

Supergirl: Fight with Master Jailer was kind of dull. Same choreographed moves over and over. Shoot chains, catch chains, tug-o-war. Run away, get chains shot at, grab chains, tug-o-war. They teased Lobo. And apparently Mystique an Orange/Red haired, blue woman is going to be in next week's episode.

Such a little tease, at that. Like cleavage. I'm all for Lobo, especially if it's Trejo. Smiley: thumbsup Those fight scenes were kind of painful to watch. "Advanced technology," a chain and a tactical baton? Not one elite soldier noticed the glowing floorboards while clearing rooms? Smiley: dubious Kind of important to notice the floors to avoid being exploded.
X-Files: They end it on a cliffhanger?! Yeah, okay, not nearly that surprising ... but still. Guess I'd have followed it a little easier if I hadn't missed an episode and a half.
Lucifer: As much as I enjoy these detective slash investigative dramas, I seem to have a hard time following them as they're airing new. The whole case-an-episode format leaves little to really follow between episodes, and these shows just kind of work better binging a few episodes at a time.

Gotham to start up again next Monday, bring us Mr Freeze and Hugo Strange.

It's so ridiculous! I was giving respect to my fellow actors. I said Marvel movies are so great because they have great actors -- the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr. (Love that guy.) People take that to mean that I'm saying this is what the movie is about, and this is in the movie.
He's saying his intention was to praise all the actors across the whole MCU, though I remain skeptical. Guess we'll find out in a little over a month.

Wash from Firefly, Alan Tudyk, Abed Nadir from Community, Danny Pudi, and I don't know from I don't know, Christina Kirk, have been brought in as series regulars for upcoming "Powerless" series. Two good additions, and one I don't know but can't be that bad considering the premise and the actors involved so far, right?

A mildly obscure Image Comic, "Officer Downe" is being made into a film, starring Kim Coates, Tig from Sons of Anarchy. Basically the comic is about a LA cop that dies by accident and is brought back to life with ... magic? Something. Basically it's what would happen if you gave Tackleberry from the Police Academy movies his own film and impunity to hunt down bad guys. Not a bad book, ridiculously short. The bad guys made the book, and I admit my curiosity is piqued. The director Mark Neveldine says it'll easily compete with any Marvel or DC movie, but that's kind of his job. You're only allowed to say it's gonna suck if it's the week before a Fantastic Four release.

Not sure if I'll see Batman v Superman, since I didn't like Man of Steel to begin with. I want to, but I don't want to.

So Deadpool got the R-Train rolling. Apparently there is going to be two versions of Batman vs Superman. One version with additional violent fight scenes pushing it to an "R" rating.

But, sounds like if you want to see it, you'll have to wait til the release outside theaters.

Yeah, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultra Championship Ultimate Home Blu-ray Edition is rumored to be getting an R rating, almost eliminating any real reason to see it in the theater. Regal Cinemas says advanced ticket sales will start February 29.

First off, I meant to post this yesterday but apparently went full retard and just forgot.

I think that would be really cool," which I guess means she's barely in her twenties if she doesn't remember all the attempts at doing just that. In actual casting news, Vanessa Hudgens has gotten the lead role in the upcoming NBC DC series "Powerless," as an insurance adjuster. The show is said to be similar to "The Office," set in the DC universe where the characters of the show deal with the aftermath of cape fights and shenanigans. They're claiming they'll have hero walk ons and background scenes, but more the obscure characters and less Supermans and Flashes. On the other side of the Big Two Aisle, Amber Midthunder has been brought in to FX's "Legion" as Kerry, and other than her character being described as her having a "childlike sense of wonder," and "a true savant," not much is really known as she's not (thus far, at least) pulled from the books.
Flash: WHY WOULD YOU TURN DOWN THE GRID ON A HUMAN SHARK PRISON!? Wait ... wait ... is he wearing pants? Oh God I couldn't stop laughing. At least Wally addressed that, though he loses those points for the whole "Barry disappears, Flash appears, MUST BE DIFFERENT PEOPLE!" cliche. Caitlin screwing with Cisco was great, though. Barry is going to awkwardly flirt and just miss out on tapping Wells' daughter, isn't he? That end reveal came sooner than expected, but neat. Now to just find out the explanation behind it. I still say the masked/caged guy is Jay as well. Speaking of, Tony Todd is on a short list to be cast in the next CBS Star Trek revival. Great voice.
Carter: A fairly accurate representation of an Italian kitchen, complete with the fighting. Film noir to musical number was ... something else. Quite enjoyable but ... something else. Jarvis not singing was disappointing though. Felt bad for the guy throughout the episode. If they're going to use Madame Masque then give her a flarking mask. Seriously, what the hell is the point of using the character for just the name? Even with pandering there's at least some reason behind it. Generally not a good reason, but one none-the-less. Sigh, at least they're kind of sort of ballparking the Maggia reference, and the Children's Doctor guy is amusing.

What's interesting is you find these two characters that are so alike and so different and then when they collide, they just learn from each other.
Eeeehh, not really, but I guess since they kind of bypassed the whole "swashbuckler" Daredevil persona. Besides, Matt's best days is leagues worse than Frank's worst.

Dungeons & Dragons movie on the horizon, and producer Roy Lee claims they've found the right balance (after the disasterous last movie), and will be "a Guardians of the Galaxy-tone movie in a Tolkien-like universe." How they plan to do that without an 80s soundtrack is beyond me, and Tolkien isn't exactly the most action packed read.

Cute. Smiley: laugh Was what Diggle said to Oliver about knowing where his kid is at all times supposed to be inspirational or to make him feel like crap? I'd have shoved him off that roof, and fired a few arrows at him on his way down. In continuing my tour of cliches, I think it should be noted how somehow Queen's domino mask disguise conceals him and his distinctive scraggly beard. It's very considerate of badguys when they leave the sources of their powers out in the open and well lit like that.
Looks like the CW shows are going on hiatus for like three weeks. Dog show or something. Speaking of CW, they're making a show based off the Archie Comics called Riverdale. So far KJ Apa has been cast as Archie, Luke Perry will be his father Fred Andrews, Ashleigh Murray as Josie, and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl. As I don't follow, not sure who Josie and Cheryl are, and why not just Betty and Veronica. Also Jughead.

Future Supergirl episode will have Kara dealing with Red Kryptonite, which turns Supers eeeeeeeeviiiiiiiil. Apparently being evil makes you dress more conservatively, but in all black.

Looks like the first steps towards Netflix's Iron Fist have been taken, at least according to Entertainment Weekly. Rumors are flowing, saying Finn Jones from Game of Thrones has been cast as Danny Rand, to the no doubt outrage of many a people who live to feel outrage. He's young, blond, square chinned and a decent actor, which fits my expectations. Marvel hasn't confirmed it yet, but now that this is out it should be confirmed or denied real soon. I, for one, hope he wears the green jumpsuit with the big yellow collar and yellow ballet slippers ... but probably not the last one. And yes, I know they're not really ballet slippers.

Cheryl Blossom was introduced in 1983 as a third love interest for Archie, was initially deemed too sexual for a children's comic, and went into character hibernation until reemerging in 1994.

There's a new rumor for Deadpool 2, from Heroic Hollywood and their "unnamed source" that Domino may show up in the sequel. I kind of doubt the discussion about the sequel has gone too far beyond "We're doing it," so at this point I know I'm taking this one with a grain of salt or fifty. She's a great character, and she debuted pretty much the same time Deadpool did, and the one that did show up was retconned into actually being a shapeshifter, Copy Cat, who just so happens to be the character Vanessa in the movie was based on sans powers.

Kind of bad news if you're a fan of Magic Mike's Channing Tatum, as his mutant premiere as Gambit has lost it's release date, but Fox is promising movies for October 2017 and January 2018. I'd assume one would be Deadpool 2. Another Sons of Anarchy actor finds his way into a comic movie, this time Tommy Flannigan in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Don't know. I could guess they bumped it to make room for Deadpool's sequel, since it did so well and he is a better known character, and with Huged Jackedman's Wolverine run is coming to an end maybe they just wanted to put all their efforts into them.

Yes yes yes yes. Revofreakin'lutionary, a freeze ray that freezes people! I only really had one concern (well, two. Also the freeze ray), and it was Fries' backstory with Nora. Would have preferred Vic becoming a villain after Nora's freezing, but not really bad. A little interesting having her around to interact instead of as just flashbacks, though I guess arguably the whole series is a series of flashbacks to begin with. That unfreezing slash melting experiment scene was a bit unnerving, which was perfect. And that running over scene. And the eye gouging. Damn this show went hardcore fast.

Okay, wait, she says she calls herself Indigo now as in it's a new moniker for her, so how does that Portal 2 test bot in the Fortress of Pretty Much Anyone Can Access Considering The Number of Super Strength Capes There Are know? Then again I guess we're supposed to believe that top secret bunkers meant to be off the grid wouldn't take up all electronic devices prior to entry. Heh, he installed Internet Explorer into Indigo. Of course Jimmy loves Kara, it's the only way he's going to bang Superman.

DB Woodside, Amenadiel on Lucifer, says he wants to play Green Lantern to the point he's strategically wearing Green Lantern shirts in public. Also in the realm of actors talking about roles they don't have but would tackle, JK Simmons says he'd gladly reprise his role as J Jonah Jameson. Stephen King officially tells us that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be taking part in adaptating The Dark Tower.

It was pretty hardcore last season. Although, I suppose, they eased into it a bit slower. Maybe. I agree that part of the point of this show is to actually tell the stories of how the various villains became what they became, so it makes sense to show the process in the case of Mr. Freeze. I also like how they're doing this really slow build of the Asylum as a major plot element. Should be fun to see that unfold. And now that we have Cobblepot there, I suspect we'll see it this season.

Yeah. I didn't like how they just glossed over that with a one line lampshade about being surprised to get service inside the freaking silo complex. Um... You don't get service because there aren't any towers nearby, and there's tons of thick solid material that block signals (even semi tall buildings have to place cell repeaters on the roof over their elevator shafts in order to allow coverage, so this is a real thing), and if that's not enough, almost certainly some form of Faraday cage around you as well (cause you know, EMP and whatnot). No amount of "hacking" fixes one, much less all three, of those issues. You'd have to gain physical access to the facility and install stuff (and remove stuff) in order to make this happen. At which point, why does she need a cell phone signal to gain access?

That was just silly. But then again, it's a show about a flying girl in a cape and a skirt. Based on what I've seen so far, they do seem to be leaning more towards the "science lite, drama/romance heavy" direction with the show. So, annoying, but not totally unexpected.

Maybe. Last season feels like it was so long ago. I just don't really remember anything that made the kind of impact, on screen, of a frozen dude melting and another being shattered by a car. Lady in the heavy suit getting set on fire, I guess might rate.

Carter: Why was Mom speaking Italian and Son talking English, with both understanding the other well enough to have a fluid conversation with no hang ups?

Disney's Big Hero 6, which was based off an obscure Marvel comic in the loosest way possible, is getting a TV show on Disney XD. I kind of actually liked the movie, so I'll probably add it to the DVR and watch it if I've nothing else recorded left at three in the morning.

I'm skipping Batman v Superman until the ratings thing gets resolved. As noted, rumors say the Blu-Ray is going to be R rated, and I'm not going to spend like twenty bucks at a theater to watch a censored version of a movie and have to spend more to see the uncensored version. It's like paying to watch the TBS version of a movie. A casualty of Deadpool's runaway success.

My plan is a bit better. I'm going to spend six bucks to see the censored version in the theater and then download the uncensored version a few months later.

As a side note, anyone else around here watching The Magicians? It's a bit on the emo side, but it's not terrible. It's sort of like if Harry Potter were made for adults.

I'm watching The Magicians. Haven't watched this week's yet though. Still catching up on a few from Monday. Better Call Saul is on my list right now.
