The remarks we were making in this thread

Quote:
Even Trump himself was convinced he was going to lose up until the point where the numbers were coming back from places like NC/FL that showed him with lead that was larger than what the democratic candidate usually makes up with later returns. Remember seeing one reporter tweet that he had stepped away from everyone into a back room for a bit, and was trying to take it all in. Reality hitting home and all. Must have been quite the moment for him.

Seem all the more interesting in light of this account of the night (see #2).

Quote:
"Shortly after 8pm on Election Night, when the unexpected trend - Trump might actually win - seemed confirmed, Don Jr told a friend that his father, or DJT, as he calls him, looked as if he had seen a ghost. Melania was in tears - and not of joy. There was, in the space of little more than an hour, in Steve Bannon's not unamused observation, a befuddled Trump morphing into a disbelieving Trump and then into a horrified Trump.

Kind of does make me wonder again if he ever really did expect to win.

"Investigating fictitious voter fraud is hard; let's go shopping!"

Trump is losing his shit over the upcoming book, sending Bannon a cease-and-desist and threatening to sue the book's author if it gets distributed.

That's generous, you're allowing he had his shit to lose in the first place.

Trump did such a good job of stopping this book that it distributed early!

I am starting to wonder whether Trump is really invested in selling that book to make some extra cash. The book itself seems to indicate he is something of a penny pincher when it comes to his own money. OPM, that is ok to **** with.

That is the only reason anyone would have have threaten legal action to stop its publication. For ***** sake. I bought one.

Only because most people don't whip out a lawsuit or three every time the conversation drifts to something else. They're all low-energy. Sad! Should we really hold him responsible for everyone else's laziness?

Steve Bannon is out at Breitbart. Smiley: laugh
NYT wrote:
WASHINGTON — Stephen K. Bannon is stepping down from his post as executive chairman of Breitbart News, the company announced Tuesday.

Mr. Bannon’s departure, which was forced by a onetime financial patron, Rebekah Mercer, comes as Mr. Bannon remained unable to quell the furor over remarks attributed to him in a new book in which he questions President Trump’s mental fitness and disparages his elder son, Donald Trump Jr.

It's nice that, in this era of partisan hostility, two lawmakers can reach across the aisle and come together. Perhaps literally.
Quote:
Two South Florida state senators went public to acknowledge their extramarital affair “as the Florida Legislature convened under a cloud of sexual impropriety that has distracted lawmakers for months,” the Sun Sentinel reports.

Their statement came after a website posted hidden camera video purporting to show state Sen. Anitere Flores (R) entering and leaving an apartment rented by Senate Minority Leader Oscar Braynon (D) on four consecutive nights.

Both Braynon and Flores are married.

So Braynon is giving Flores the D.

Today's entry into the Big Book of Political Sex Scandals is Missouri governor Eric Greitens who reportedly had an affair with a woman, bound her to a piece of exercise equipment, blindfolded her and then took nude photos of her, threatening to distribute them if she ever told anyone.

For the record, the bondage and blindfold were consensual; the photo taking and blackmail were not.

Well, he admitted to the affair so there's nothing really alleged about that. And hey, who knows? Maybe he's just trying to raise money to pay all those delayed tax returns to his constituents?

True. I guess the "alleged" part (i.e. where they differ) is that he denies the photo-taking or blackmail.

And now we'll spend the rest of the day wondering what consensual blackmail would look like, and how you'd distinguish it from the normal kind.

Well ok, I will at least...

Smiley: um

I guess it'd be a lot like embezzlement, but less subtle and a multiplayer game.

In Metro 2033 (the novel, not the video game), Hunter has Artyom tell him a grave secret and, in return, tells Artyom the details of his mission saying that now each of them has a powerful tool against the other and can trust them to act in their behalf. I suppose that would qualify.

Typically that conundrum is solved via prior written consent.

I'm sure the out of context quotes leaked to the media will be much more interesting. Oh wait! That was probably what you were talking about. My bad!
