It fixed itself eventually. I just went and did something else for a while.

Something else annoying that's completely unrelated. As of right now you can only glamour SCH only books into other SCH only books. You can't turn them into general ACN books any more. SMNs still can, but not SCHs.

Well, as I've said on the o-boards, there's only so much the devs can do with the ridiculous number of people.

They can only install so much hardware, they can only buy so much bandwidth.

Some games have taken to creating "buffer worlds" that are used exclusively when a server's population is too high. Basically, if your world's full, it logs you in there so you can still play until a spot opens up, at which point you can select to move over or just keep doing what you're doing and accept getting bumped back in line a bit.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect this feature to hit XIV because they haven't been good about their cross-server functionality beyond DF matching. When it comes to instancing, or the lack thereof like with housing, it's otherwise SE choosing some bad ways to code their ****. And it's an error they've repeated in XI numerous times, too.

Ok, that was cool. I just ran into a bit of role specific dialogue and cutscene changes.

I just did that early story quest and watched that CS where (among other things) Y'shtola gets hurt and Krile starts casting healing magic her. I was doing the quest on SCH, and Krile turned to me and said "Don't just stand there gawping! You're a healer, aren't you?", and I started casting healing spells along side her. Asking among the FC, apparently that doesn't happen if you're a tank or DPS.

I love that they though enough to do that. I wonder what, if anything else changes based on role or job?

A LOT of the later MSQ and a few of Side Story quest dialogue changes based the progression you've done, e.g you're far more recognized if you've cleared Coils and if you've cleared Alexander Savage as well if you're Legacy vs "New" player. It definitely seems like they got the Binding Coil scenario writer to do some if not most of the storyline for 4.0, which is good, as she was XI's writer as well and it shows.

RDM swords were obviously designed for larger races. Most of the hilts and knuckle guards are HUGE in my tiny lalafell hands.

Yeah, I heard a reference to me defeating Bahamut earlier. The writing as a whole has improved and has kept my attention a lot better than HW did. I just couldn't find myself giving a **** about Ishgard.

Also, THE AZIM STEPPE. Love this zone. It's massive and totally reminds of the Calm Lands in FFX.

Just as long as they left the cheap lame chocobo flag races out. I still have horrible memories of trying for that ultimate weapon part. Annoying, Annoying, ANNOYING mini-game. Nearly as bad as that stupid 300 lightning strikes crap or whatever that was for Lulu's. Glad I never use Lulu, lol.

Just reloaded my old FFX file and apparently I DID get Wakka's final weapon. Must have been drinking a lot during those blitzball games cause I have no recollection of them.

Taking it long and slow (and only playing a few days a week because of RL shenanigans) I finally finished the main story last night.

I have mixed feelings about the experience. I liked all the individual pieces of the story, but as a whole it felt very disjointed. The whole Doma arc felt very out of place and I'm still not sure what the point of it was. Zenos was already gone by the time we got there and we weren't even expecting Doma to send troops to help out or anything. Freeing Doma was cool for it's own sake, but was completely unconnected and unimportant to the initial Ala Mhigo stuff. In general liked the story, but I spent a lot of time asking myself "what was the point of all that?"

The whole "thing" about it in-game was that you were trying to split Zenos's attention.

Zenos had JUST wrecked Rhalgr's Reach and any attempts to fall back, regroup and rebuild are not going to work when he's stomping all over the battlefield.

So the idea, was to cause a ruckus over in Doma to force Zenos to turn his eye over there long enough to let the Ala Mhigans enough time to regroup and try to rebuild/resupply/recover, even if you don't see a whole lot of that in the story.

Also a good place to secure more allies if you end up needing them. Maybe not troops, but some weapons and armor could be brought over, etc. Also more training for the Scions and the WoL too.

I feel the premise is OK, but it is... somewhat under-represented. We come back and the Resistance and the Alliance seem like they are back to full strength and several idiot balls in a row were handed to the Empire, just like that. It feels... a little rushed. I'm on my way to assaulting the Cannon myself, and I had JUST got back to Gyr Abannia like I don't know... 5 in-game hours ago? Like 2 levels worth of quests? Feels kinda quick.

But hey, at least the dungeons over in Doma.... Shisui... Doma Castle... and Baram's were just awesome. Awesome, awesome experiences. Some of the most fun I've ever had doing instanced content in an MMO yet.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked all the Doma stuff. The questing and dungeons and story there was great. It just felt disconnected from and unrelated to everything else that happened before and after.

The story makes sense when you think about it overall. It feels disjointed because they were busy, as usual, trying to push you from zone to zone without really building anything. So while you were trying to split Zenos's attention, you were set to liberate both doma and ala mhigo while ala mhigo will be the place that "builds more in future updates" as the real empty feeling comes from not only the ending, but because there was literally zero point story and lore wise for doing what we did once we reached the end because it's like "now what? FIND OUT in 4.3!"

But yoshida said it best that the story is done in a way that everything is "frozen in time" in a sense. We do our thing, we go back on an alt or whatever and we redo it knowing what will happen but the game doesn't act like we already completed it etc, so it's more focused on the design rather than the actual story ironically.

HW was the same problem and really, will always be a problem if they keep the same formula as he wants to do. Nice areas and tons of side quests and so on, but ultimately, you get pushed through the zone so quickly (especially if you know how to maximizing leveling) they may as well not even exist, for example aside leveling alt jobs on skipped side quests and certain FATE rewards/hunts/nodes, how often do you find yourself legitimately going back to older zones like Ruby Sea or Loch just to go there because you enjoy the zone and there's actually stuff to do there besides the obligatory systems required to be there?

Probably my favorite thing about the story? Not single mention of an ascian the entire time. Not until Elidibus showed up for a minute in literally the very last cutscene.

Yeah, I'm kinda digging the break from the whole Ascian thing.

Though, hopefully, in the next expansion, could we take a break from the Imperials? It'd be nice to fight somebody new for once.

Though I suppose we had that through half of Heavensward, but still. Imperials Imperials Imperials. They dominated a large chunk of vanilla, the end of Heavensward, and now the entirety of Stormblood.

Some people on obards say they want Garlemald next, and I'm like "noooo, I think we need a break for awhile. Let's do Garlemald like, after the next expansion" lol.

When Ascians got brought up in an interview, yoshida basically dropped the hint about an XI themed expansion in regards to them, since he said they'll always be an element of the story, but unlike the dragonsong war, Doma/Ala Mhigo was purely Garleans, no outside help lol.

Meh, the cutscenes were better at least, and the characters were more memorable. Zenos > evil pope guy.

This game's story has never been anything above average so I was fine with what it was. (I think those who say it's on the same level storywise as the single player FFs are nuts). On paper it can be good but the way it's presented is pretty bad most of the time.
